I am going to go out on a limb, from the subject title of this thread that there is at least ONE number from The Pirate Queen. Have you been to see it yet, Downer?
Pleased to see A Chorus Line, not surprised to see Grinch since it's a holiday season show. The other two don't do much for me. Doesn't the parade usually feature new shows? What about Mary Poppins?
Disney never has thier shows perform on the parade.
Apparently, they were attempting to work something out to get Poppins to perform, but obviously it fell through (they probably compensated with the Today show performance.)
Tonya Pinkins: Then we had a "Lot's Wife" last June that was my personal favorite. I'm still trying to get them to let me sing it at some performance where we get to sing an excerpt that's gone.
Tony Kushner: You can sing it at my funeral.
The only performances I would watch for the NBC broadcast is The Grinch and SpamAlot. I'll be watching the CBS broadcast because Jersey Boys will be performing on that network.
From Playbill.com- "According to a Macy's spokesperson, cast members from A Chorus Line, Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas: The Musical, The Color Purple and Spamalot will perform on the program. The Chorus Line revival will offer "One," Grinch cast members will present a medley of "Who Likes Christmas?" and "You're a Mean One, Mr. Grinch," the Spamalot company will sing "Always Look on the Bright Side of Life," and the Color Purple cast will offer a yet-to-be-determined song from the musical based on the film of the same name."
I'm happy ACL is performing, but Grinch and TCP and Spamalot aren't my first choices. Wedding Singer, Mary Poppins, and Chicago 10 should perform.
I wonder which cast of the grinch will perform! Or if they will have all the kids perform and modify it so they all can!
I wish Wedding Singer was performing as well but they probably figured since it's closing there is no reason to boost sales...although Chitty performed last year and they already knew they were closing. So I don't know.
What is your dream role?
My dream role would be to be myself. To be performing at the Hollywood Bowl and to have an audience there just to see me, as Stephanie. They are there because they like what I do as a singer, an artist and a person (the last being the most important). I enjoy escaping and portraying other characters, but to be accepted and wanted as yourself... that's amazing! --Stephanie J. Block
Just one of the many reasons I admire and respect Stephanie!!
I think that the MACY'S parade is one of the worst showcases for Broadway shows. Between the lip synching, the goosebumps from the cold on the performers and the daylight removing any theatricality that remains, those spots always seem inert.
I always wonder if people who don't go to the theater even have a clue about the real energy and talent that happens during a real perfomance in a real theater.
