Cheyenne Jackson tickled me. AFTER ordering SoMMS a drink but NOT tickling him, and hanging out with Girly in his dressing room (where he DIDN'T tickle her) but BEFORE we got married. To others. And then he tweeted Boobs. He also tweeted he's good friends with some chick on "The Voice" who just happens to be good friends with Tink's ex. And I'm still married. Oh, and this just in: "Pettiness, spite, malice ....Such ugly emotions... So sad." - After Eight, talking about MEEEEEEEE!!! I'm so honored! :-)
Again with this crap? There has been like 4,000 threads on this. I've run out of clever put-downs for this idea!
Suffice it to say that Disney will create musicals from all the successful films they have FIRST, so Newsies will not move to Broadway in any of our lifetimes.

I like Newsies, but I always felt it was like a male Annie. I know MTI is working on the rights for it, I say just leave it to schools and companies to do...its not worth bway.

Neither is Legally Blonde. Personally, I think Newsies is one of the few Disnew films that could make a good tranisition to the stage. The logistics of doing so would be cost prohibitive. You need a very large cast, and I don't even think Disney can afford that.
Funniest musical. I laughed all the way through it. Not for all the right reasons, mind you, but it was very entertaining. Bustin, we know you want to star in the stage version, so why not just produce it yourself?
If we must have a show with lots of little male urchins in it, then I'd prefer them to bring back OLIVER! than have to sit through NEWSIES.

Shows with that many young eple are terribly difficult to cast. Do you use real 10-to-15 year olds, or do you try to find boys 18 and older who look young?
Newsies has a redeemable score and some engaging choreography, but as a whole fails in my opinion. I would not want to see this project revived unless it were radically altered.

It's far superior to the dismal translation of The Lion King and Beauty and the Beast (Do I need to mention Tarzan and Mary Poppins). It definitely would need some work, but it is more ready for the stage then most of Disney's other works.

I agree i think that (well obviously not Mary Poppins) but the other Disney shows were animated, and also Newsies isnt your typical Disney movie, IMO. I mean some of the boys were smoking cigarettes in the movie, i dont think Disney would allow that now.
I was in Newsies...twice. It doesn't work on stage really (I don't think the film worked either, when I think of it). I was Mush first then Jack. It's not a great show. Pretty boring (and short) - not to mention there are only 2 good songs. And sure, there would be rewrites, new songs, etc. but still. Just let it be a thing of the past.
I love the movie though I understand it is flawed and probably was not marketed well....I think moving it to broadway would give it a chance to be reborn. I think the music has great potential and should be expanded. I love the mix of older and younger boys...you get the cute and the hot factor! LOL I would love to see some more wise crack characters developed to add more comedy, more romance, more between the two guys friendship, and a happier ending. I wanna know that all the boys are ok...I think the movies story needs work but the show has some great moments making it an underated cult favorite.
I know lots of NEWSIES fanatics, and I sympathize...and I think it actually would work better on stage (one reason the film flopped was that the numbers looked "stagy.") But the title has now been branded "flop" and no stage producer would want to be associated with it.
I'm still longing for a CITY OF ANGELS movie, myself. It needs some retooling, but it would work MUCH better on screen than onstage, and it has a great score and marvellous one-liners. (It's also set in that stylized Hollywood era where people were allowed to just burst into song whenever they wanted to.)
I ask in all honesty/What would life be?/Without a song and a dance, what are we?/So I say "Thank you for the music/For giving it to me."
I absolutely LOVE Newsies! realistically- it won't be on Broadway anytime soon first, someone actually has to make a legit production of it that makes money
if they need young kids-- i'll do it! and in this case, i would be honored to be a boy
in 8th grade, a group of us spent our entire math class all year staging the show and drawing sets..... obsessed much?
