Are they trying to publicize Viva Laughlin or what ?

It looks like 1/2 of the commercial time may have been taken up by these ads

I'm so not watching that show. Mostly because they're shoving in down my throat.

They probably have high hopes for the show plus there might have been unsold air time

That show looks good but i will never watch CBS with fear of seeing another one of those commercials.

Good God, I know. I think I saw 3 commercials for that show during one commercial break.

That was so annoying. At least show different scenes, not the same thing over & over. I wonder if Hugh Jackman paid for them since he is the producer of the show!!!

Sex, Greed, Sin, Murder.
I could probably recite that entire commercial, unfortunately.

It was quite annoying and I kind of wanted to break the tv screen everytime it came on.

It was really annoying to see right when the Tonys went to break, a Viva Laughlin commercial. I thought that maybe there would be a Xanadu commercial, maybe one for Grease and one for Little Mermaid and maybe even one for Young Frankenstein, but no all we got was Viva Laughlin. Did anyone count how many Viva Laughlin commercials were played?

I love the way the ad says "HUGH JACKMAN! LIKE YOU'VE NEVER SEEN HIM BEFORE!".

Yeah, 'cos we've NEVER seen Hugh Jackman gaying it up in a shiny suit and singing songs before, have we? :P

I wished it was more like NY local TV commercials with more focus on B'way musicals. That's how I remembered watching TV when growing up on Long Island. Original commercials for CATS and Chorus Line, not to mention the "Lullaby on Broadway" at the Milford Plaza Hotel.....

Why are they glorifying Laughlin, Nevada when Las Vegas should have all the fanfare? Besides just that small strip of land with casinos, bordering the river, I can't see anything else exciting there. The overdose of "Viva Laughlin" commercials made me nauseous.....

I liked the Hairspray commerical for the movie.

They did show a commerical for Lion King and Spamalot. re: Commercials On The Tony's.

I thought the LION KING commercial was awesome. It wasn't just selling the show but selling the experience of NYC. Good for tourism and all shows!

Completely agree about the Hugh Jackman show. I can't figure out why every TV star tries to get into movies and he is trying to get into television. I know he a dud year at the box office last year, but making a good movie would do wonders to help that.

Hugh did have a good year at the domestic box office on the overall for 2006 ( $ 570 million). If you care to count the international receipts, also from the same site, his movies grossed a total of over $ 1 billion in 2006

https://www.boxofficemojo.com/people/chart/?id=hughjackman.htm

I think people don't realize that VIVA LAUGHLIN is not Hugh's TV series. His role is only a cameo, albeit recurring. But it is his first venture as a TV producer, hence his major interest in the show. I think this is part of his production company's deal with CBS to produce some shows for TV. I think you can't blame CBS for using his popularity to publicize this new series re: Commercials On The Tony's

I have seen the BLACKPOOL series from the UK, which was a hit across the pond. It is not a conventional musical, rather it is a murder mystery drama involving a fairly dysfunctional family. The musical numbers ( only a few) provide comic relief and spice up the scenes. It actually involved sing-a-alongs, not lipsynching, choosing pop songs that are most suitable to the scene ( some are downright comical, believe it or not re: Commercials On The Tony's)... I do not know if they will adopt the same serial drama format of the UK version ( it was only a 6-part series), or if they will choose a slightly different one. But it seems they have added new characters ( Hugh's role of a wealthy but sleazy casino-hotel operator, included) in the US TV version.

Bravo, Jo! We can always count on you to defend Hugh's honor!

I think that some of you should give the show a chance, even if they overdid it with the commercials.

Chances are real good it wont be anywhere near as fun as the BLACKPOOL series, which had the good sense (just like QUEER AS FOLK) to know when to end instead of dragging out long after we really cared about the characters.

BLACKPOOL still shows up occasionally on BBC World TV. As noted, lots of fun and very well executed.
