As a person with a strong case of resting bitch face, I can say for certain it does exist.

Especially when I am deep in thought - the resting bitch face is strong with YWIW.

Some good news: somewhat surprisingly, ratings for the Dems this week have been higher than for the GOP last week.

This day's been kind of amazing so far. From 4-Star generals, to lifelong Republican voters, to the openly gay sheriff, to dozens of vets, to the families of fallen soldiers to the incredibly moving speech from the father of a Muslim vet who sacrificed his life to save his comrades? Wow. It's so great to see Dem's unapologetically reclaiming full-throated patriotism from the jingoism of the Repubs. Getting ready for Chels & Mama!

If the stark contrast between these two conventions doesn't move the polls significantly, I will be disappointed in America.

Very solid closing speech from Hills.  I thought the latter third, largely an anti-Trump message, was the most effective part of the speech. The short film shown before her speech was very well produced, too.

Now, if we don't see a post-convention bump in the polls after next week, I will be disappointed in my fellow Americans.

Hillary may not be considered a great public speaker, but I thought she was on fire tonight. I'm registered in PA, so I'd already been planning to vote for her, but this speech totally sold me. I cannot wait to vote for her, and I cannot wait to see her positively destroy Trump.

I am a firm believer in serendipity- all the random pieces coming together in one wonderful moment, when suddenly you see what their purpose was all along.

I, too, am VERY EXCITED to cast my vote for Hillary on November 8th. I was moved to tears tonight. History was made and it was spectacular. #ImWithHer

I'll be very anxious to see how much this moves the polls- it should be a significant swing, but there's a lot of stupid people out there...

I thought Nicole Wallace, who usually comes off as a highly intelligent, astute, conservative, was way off base in her criticism of the speech tonight.  Steve Schmidt, oddly enough, who I usually loathe, actually praised the speech significantly more than Wallace.

With all due respect to our very fine candidate, THIS was the best speech of the night.  Mr. Khan managed to use his 7 minutes for the most stirring and moving moment of the night and then, pivot to the most damning condemnation of Trump of the night, too.  We're very lucky that this gentleman and his wife were willing to share such a painful part of their lives with us for the better of the country.

Hillary was very good but destroying Trump isn't setting the bar very high. All we got is rhetoric from both sides. I very clearly remember Obama stating both times how we would create jobs by building up our infrastructure and work across the aisle. Ditto HRC. She promised everyone everything.

In the end if she wins, which I believe is almost certain, it will be because the most accurate thing she said is that Trump can not be trusted to lead the United States. I don't see how anyone can listen to him and not see a dangerous personality. That is all she really has to point out. His thin skin will just peel off.

HorseTears, that segment of his speech had to be the most heart stopping moment this entire week. SO much was said with those words and his pulling that copy out of his pocket. It literally left me breathless. And I bet we are going to see it a few more times in campaign commercials

I have to agree with you on Mr. Khan's speech, HorseTears.

On a completely different note, I hope Chloe Grace Moretz' little pep talk directed primarily to her millennial  peers will motivate them to get out and vote HRC/Democrat.

This week has been a stunning achievement for Clinton and the Dems, especially considering the wikileaks scandals at its beginning, which now seems like a distant memory.  The entire event has drawn almost universal raves from across the political spectrum.  They were able to unite the party while simultaneously attracting Republicans and Independents.  They shared stories from the Mothers of the Movement along with those of fallen soldiers and cops.  They put America, the America in which we live right now in 2016, on display and loved it.  Truly remarkable.

HorseTears said: "This is completely unscientific, so let's not make too much out of it, but still.  It's nice to see...

"Thats good to see Horse but like you said, its totally unscientific. Its unimaginable that she has these horrible trust and like numbers especially when against a horrible human like Oompa Loompa

Hopefully the Speech moved these numbers forward from Washington DC Post  Which is very friendly to her usually, not some rightie newspaper:

4 brutal poll numbers that greet Hillary Clinton

1) 68 percent say Clinton isn't honest and trustworthy

That's according to the CNN poll, and it's her worst number on-record. It's also up from 65 percent earlier this month and 59 percent in May. The 30 percent who see Clinton as honest and trustworthy is now well shy of the number who say the same of Trump: 43 percent.

You heard that right: Trump — he of the many, many Pinocchios — now has a large lead on Clinton when it comes to honesty and trustworthiness.

The CBS poll, for what it's worth, has a similar number saying Clinton is dishonest: 67 percent.

2) Her image has never been worse

CBS showed just 31 percent have favorable views of Clinton and 56 percent have unfavorable ones. Even in Trump's worst days on the campaign trail, he has rarely dipped below a 31 percent favorable rating. Clinton has hit that number a few times, but her negative-25 net favorable rating here is tied for the worst of her campaign, according to Huffington Post Pollster.

In the CNN poll, the 39 percent who say they have a favorable view of Clinton is lower than at any point inCNN's regular polling since April 1992 — when she wasn't even first lady yet. Of course, back then, the reason just 38 percent of people liked her was because many were unfamiliar with her. At the time, 39 percent were unfavorable and 23 percent had no opinion.

Clinton's favorable rating in the CNN poll is currently 16 points net-negative. That's unprecedented in the dozens of CNN polls on her since 1992.

Gallup's new numbers on Monday — 38 percent favorable and 57 percent unfavorable — are also unprecedented over the course of Clinton's political career.

This also appears to be the first time ever that Clinton's image measures worse than Trump's. It does so in both polls.

3) Just 38 percent would be "proud" to have her as president

That's down from 55 percent in March 2015. Sixty percent say they would not be proud.

On this measure, she's basically on the same footing as Trump, whom 39 percent would be proud of and 59 percent wouldn't be.

4) Nearly half of Democratic primary voters still want Bernie Sanders

Clinton dispatched with Sanders and now has his endorsement, but despite 9 in 10 consistent Sanders supporters saying they'll vote Clinton in November, many of them still pine for their first love.

The CNN poll, in fact, shows 45 percent of those who voted in Democratic primaries still say they wish it was Sanders. Just 49 percent say they prefer Clinton — down from 55 percent a month ago

The successful DNC was more than good TV/optics.  It showed how HRC will govern--despite the supposed chaos at the beginning due to the Russian/Wikileaks meddling, despite a primary opponent who waited to concede until the very end and whose supporters vowed to disrupt the convention, and despite the media that keeps harping on polling data, her convention was the most inclusive ever, had no major hiccups, and ended with a speech that showed how she listens and works with everyone to accomplish important goals.  Was that broadly understood?  Irrational hate and implicit bias are hard to overcome unless you recognize them in yourself.

What was amazing about this DNC was that it- I think quite successfully- framed Trump as an aberration, a political hijacker. The attacks weren't on the GOP or conservatism- they were on Trumpism. And it so successfully showed the extent to which Trump has consumed the Republican party; the Democrats were able to co-opt so many traditionally Republican themes and messages, because Trump couldn't be bothered with them.

It was four days of actual leaders and luminaries that represent all walks of life in this country making stirring speech after speech, pounding the idea that Trump was not just incompetent, dangerous, and self-interested, but un-American.

And with this stuff with Russia this week, Trump did nothing to disprove that.

Every decent Republican I know is having a crisis of conscience similar to these quotes:

===

CONSERVATIVE WRITERS SUMMARIZE DNC:

Conservative writer Ron Fournier:

Well done, @realDonaldTrump. You made Democrats a party of sunny patriotism and values.

You sure @billclinton didn't ask you to run?

— Ron Fournier (@ron_fournier) July 29, 2016

National Review editor Jonah Goldberg:

Why this convention is better: It's about loving America. GOP convention was about loving Trump. If you didn't love Trump, it offered nada.

— Jonah Goldberg (@JonahNRO) July 29, 2016

John Podhoretz, former Ronald Reagan speech writer and Commentary editor:

Take about five paragraphs out of that Obama speech and it could have been a Reagan speech. Trust me. I know.

— John Podhoretz (@jpodhoretz) July 28, 2016

Fox News host Greg Gutfeld:

if repubs had championed their principles with specifics rather than embrace autocracy - they wouldn't have yielded this turf to dems.

— GregGutfeld (@greggutfeld) July 29, 2016

Conservative blogger Erick Erickson:

For Republicans who are not social conservatives, I have to imagine last night and tonight at the DNC are having an impact on them.

— Erick Erickson (@EWErickson) July 29, 2016

Conservative Iowa radio host Steve Deace:

So most of conservative media and the GOP spent the week rooting for Russia, and now the Democrats get to rally around the flag.

Dreadful.

— Steve Deace (@SteveDeaceShow) July 29, 2016

Conservative Wisconsin radio host Charlie Sykes:

Snark aside: GOP needs to understand what is happening to them tonight…

— Charlie Sykes (@SykesCharlie) July 29, 2016

Do you know how old I am? Old enough to remember when speeches like this would've been given at GOP convention… Not Dem one. Brutal.

— Charlie Sykes (@SykesCharlie) July 29, 2016

Rich Galen, press secretary for Dick Cheney:

How can it be that I am standing at my kitchen counter sobbing because of the messages being driven at the DNC? Where has the GOP gone?

— Rich Galen (@richgalen) July 29, 2016

Conservative ops veteran Matt Mackowiak

This Democratic convention has been an unmitigated disaster for the GOP. Very well produced. Unifying. Patriotic. Bravo.#DNCinPHL

— Matt Mackowiak (@MattMackowiak) July 29, 2016

Amanda Carpenter, former spokeswoman for Sen. Ted Cruz:

I am sure hearing a lot more about God and faith at the DNC than the RNC.

— Amanda Carpenter (@amandacarpenter) July 28, 2016

Conservative blogger AGConservative:

Still stunned. Feel like I'm in the twilight zone. Obama just defended America & conservative values from attacks by the Republican nominee.

— (((AG))) (@AG_Conservative) July 28, 2016

Commentary editor Noah Rothman:

Republicans could have stopped all this.

— Noah Rothman (@NoahCRothman) July 29, 2016

Daily Caller Writer Jamie Weinstein:

Now an immigrant medal of honor winner? If the goal is to reach independents and conservatives uneasy w/ Trump, well done Democrats
