ABCNews is reporting that in the 1990s Sarah Palin was a member of the Alaska Independence Party (AIP). The AIP's charter is designed to achieve Alaskan independence from the USA, and contend that Alaskan statehood was granted illegally. Their motto is 'Alaska First', a far cry from McCain's 'Country First' motto.

This is getting better and better!!
wow....just wow...this week is getting better and better
I wonder if Ms Palin will suddenly decline the VP nom. Fall on her sword so to speak.
I get the feeling this candidate will not last past Wednesday. Granted, if none of the scandals are true, then this is all pretty unfair to her. Not unfair to her party, however, given ALL of the crap they have thrown at Dems.
The fact that she is a JOKE when it comes to her being anywhere near qualified to be Commander in Chief is far more scandalous and sickening.
Yeah, she makes Barack Obama look READY to lead the country! Haven't heard much about THAT lately, have we?

Obama is being very quiet today. He is here in my home state (MI)and he had the opp to go to town -- he does not have to, at least here anyway.. We are just so disgusted w/gwb!!!
Change NOW!!!
Obama is playing it cool. He asked that the children of the candidates be off limits and sort of came to Palin's defense, which was smart and respectable.
Now, THIS is the straw that will break the camel (or moose's) back!!!
We have something to run with to penetrate Palin's teflon skin.
Please hit up all the blogs & boards.
The GOP has appropriated God and country and we need to take back at least the latter.
This is too good to be true. Could it get any better?
Oh we Dems are the ones who truly own the God and country banners.
We don't have even half the sex scandals they do. We have platforms that attempt to fulfill the things Jesus and/or God will find important--the poor, the environment. We wouldn't start wars based on lies. Katrina. I could just go on and on. More importantly we are no where the hypocrites they are.
I don't think Palin will withdraw or be dropped. Clearly, the Republican party has little respect for the intelligence of the electorate. Given our history, it's not such an unreasonable gamble. Evangelicals will stick by her, and the gamble is that enough women and independents will vote for her just because she's a woman. The role of HRC and other Democratic women just became larger.
The Dems need to attack this and her lack of qualifications. Making an issues of the baby/babies will only hurt in the end.
But really, who vetted this person? Did ANYONE?

How about her support of Pat Buchanan? Can we attack her for that?
This is far more interesting (and relevent) than the redneck baby thing.
Damn skippy. I wonder if McCain is having some kind of nervous breakdown right now....the Republicans effusive over "his choice" on one side and the repeated gong crashes of cruel reality on the other.
Thanks!

John....take off the red shoes.
Yikes, this is quite a burn.
This might get her a few votes in Hawaii, Texas and Vermont.
Did you see the great pair she wore for the announcement?

Scary as hell:
"I'm an Alaskan, not an American. I've got no use for America or her damned institutions."
Joe Vogler Alaska Secessionist leader
Ideologically, the AIP is considered to be a hybrid of conservative Republicanism, populism and libertarianism. Among the issues advocated by the party: the direct popular election of the state attorney general and all judges, the right to keep and bear arms, the privatization of government services, the right to home schooling by parents, and a constitutional amendment to ban property taxes. The AIP, following Vogler's infamous confrontations with officials from the National Park Service and the Environmental Protection Agency, remains steadfastly opposed to environmental regulations and actively promotes the private ownership and widespread development of Alaskan land.
The AIP supports a constitutional amendment abolishing and prohibiting all property taxes. When a person pays property tax, the land owner never truly own it. It can go back to the government for non payment of "rent."
The AIP seeks the complete repatriation of the public lands, held by the federal government, to the state. The federal constitution only authorizes certian uses for federally held land. Wilderness designation is not one of them.
The AIP supports the direct popular election of the attorney general, all judges, and magistrates. Our constitution calls for the appointment of judges, magistrates and the AG. Another one of the flaws in our constitution.
The AIP supports the right of the individual to keep and bear arms. Gun control is hitting your target.
The government has no business in telling you how to raise your child.
The AIP supports the right of jurors to judge the law as well as the facts, according to their conscience.
Alaska First
It's basically treason and unconstitutional is what it is.
This is one helluva "gotcha"!

I thought that too MeJust but it's been generally decided that merely seceding from the US isn't Treason unless you call for actual attacks against the US.
