Heath and Jake are looking gorgeous, as usual.
I cannot wait for this movie, once again.
Here's the article:
Brokeback in EW
*drools over cover*
Thanks for sharing! I can't wait to see it, either.

Just found this clip on moviefone.com!

"And nobody has more on the line than Ledger and Gyllenhaal, who risk alienating a huge portion of their core fan base — young men — by being perceived as soft or, as Ahnuld might say, girlymen."
The journalist must be an idiot; surely the majority of "young men" in Ledger and Gyllenhaal's core fan base are gay. I have difficulty picturing young straight men going to see a movie because it stars Heath Ledger.
Interesting how the article begins with an explicit assertion of Ledger's heterosexuality, which is continuously repeated throughout the article, as is the idea that it's soooo risky for these actors to play fully-realized, Oscar-material gay characters.
I found the entire article quite offensive, actually. There's more than a little latent homophobia there, and it's not helped by the quotations coaxed out of Ledger and Gyllenhaal.
BlueWizard,
"I have difficulty picturing young straight men going to see a movie because it stars Heath Ledger."
While I won't see a movie because Ledger is in it, I am likely to see a movie with Gyllenhaal in it. I am a fan of his, as are other straight male friends of mine. Then again most of my friends are actors, so it's not a typical demographic, because it is more about his craft than him.
and as for the quote in the article: 'It was hard. I was going through a breakup, and I had to live with that in the mountains for three months,' says Gyllenhaal. 'I had nobody. And watching the two of them fall in love in this loneliness...'
Um...Kirstin was definitely around for most of those three months visiting him and out at the bars...trust me.

"I didn't care," says the director of any potential preproduction jitters about gay love scenes. "They know what they're getting into. They'll just do it. The more I'd talk about it, the more embarrassed I'd get."
If he's too embarrassed to explain how the actors should play a scene, why would he want to direct this movie in the first place? I mean, other than the Oscar buzz that followed this movie from the second it started filming.
I'm still in denial about Heath Ledger and Michelle Williams. She just seriously bugs me.
Could those jeans on Jake look any worse? Gross.
I think Ang Lee meant he was more embarassed about going into detail about sex. He has directed a gay-themed movie before.

Of course, Link. But if you're seeing his work for his craft, you wouldn't care that he's playing a gay person, would you? The article seems to imply that Gyllanhaal and Ledger's male fanbase would freak out if they played gay. Au contraire.
The thing that irks me about many of these articles is their sole focus on how how uncomfortable it is for a straight man to play gay (I'm sure playing a murderer is a walk in the park compared to feeling love for another guy), yet they tip-toe around the central crux of the movie and the issues it raises. Furthermore, is it really a risk for an actor to play gay anymore? Can someone name one actor whose career it has hurt? It's not exactly a difficult decision to accept a role in a movie with a strong script directed by Ang Lee or Gus Van Sant.

I've seen lots of gay guys play straight romantic roles, on stage and screen, so I don't think it's a big deal this way around either.
I can't wait to see this, and it opens here in NJ the same day as The Producers. It's tough to decide which one first.
Oh, Aspiriringguy, I want to thank you for that link!
I just recently subscribed to EW, and this makes it worth every penny!
Yummy.
I am very happy that Heath is finally getting some recognition and most of all, better roles. Much luck to him!
And I have been a fan of Jake's since October Sky, I'm glad the rest of the world finally caught on.

I looked for showtimes for this movie and I can't find any in any theatre around here. Is this some kind of limited release? I thought it was nationwide.
Limited to become nationwide, or limited period?

What?? ACK.
When will the rest of the country get to see it?
I think someone posted that it opens the same day as The Producers for them.
I have to choose between it and Narnia. It won! lol

The official site just says 'December 9th'.
Meh. Well, that kills my Friday night.
so when does the producers open?
Dec 21? Is that still the date?
oh man. that's gonna force me to trek into the city to see brokeback now for sure.
We should have a slumber party! We can discuss the film and recreate dramatic scenes! :)

Oh, BlueWizard, it all depends on which straight boys you talk to. Some of them get exceedingly freaked out at any mention of teh gay.
And Ledger looks...older on the cover. I thought he was one of those perpetually boyish actors.
Jerby! Tsk tsk.
Only if we invite HEath and Jake.
huh? whuh? huh?
I only meant it as like a drama club slumber party.
