Gotta say, I'm glad I'm not in Chicago right now.
Happy new year, brd.

I have to smile at the thought of my sister who is sunning herself on a tropic island and has no idea what bad weather she is missing back home in Chicago.
Well, my electrician showed up at 11:25 and was gone 20 minutes later, having installed a new light fixture in the foyer. On time and meticulous work - thanks, Angie's List!

Your year is off to a good start, Moony.
A tropical beach sounds kind of heavenly right now. I know a few people who are 'stuck' in the sunshine, and can't get back because the flights have been cancelled and delayed. Lucky them. I usually get stuck at O'Hare.
I need to plan more time on tropical islands. *Adds that to the resolution list*

Hey, all.
Well, I'm home from Sydney, arriving to tomato plants that have grown so much in three weeks that I think they carried off a couple of neighbours. Damn, I hope the neighbours are merely away on vacation. I don't think the insurance would cover 'em.

Happy 2014 Adults. Sorry I have been MIA, but now back from the trip, cleaning and destinking my closet, and a trip to the vet. Zorra seems to be back to her normal coy self, though she is a little more snugly than usual. And Zander is being even more of an attention hog than usual. The people who came by to feed them (and would never see Zorra because she hides, so her lack of visibility was not a warning sign) said the food was pretty much eaten. Zander looks a wee bit more beefy ...
That Zorra is one tough little ****! Now, in search of a new cleaning lady.
After the mess that was today, I am glad I scheduled tomorrow off as well!

'Morning! back to the grind. Sigh. Why am I not a wealthy retiree?
You - What did the cleaning lady have to say for herself when you talked to her?

Record low this morning, no school and we drove. Traffic would have been fine if people would stop rear ending each other!!!!!! Told the kids to stay home today, but C18 does not listen to me anymore.
Crappy Monday!

Posted: 1/6/14 at 12:09pmShe did not have much to say at all. Mostly "oh" "really" and "I never saw that cat". It may have been her daughter that cleaned that room and shut the closet doors. I think she asked if the cat was OK, but I was so angry when I called her, I do not recall much of the conversation.

Posted: 1/6/14 at 7:22pmThe vet called. The wee one is fine - she burned through muscle during her R. Kelly, "Trapped in a Closet" ordeal. All organs working fine, no damage. Yeah Zorra Maximus - that is one tough little kitty.

Sweet mother of God - it's like International Falls, MN out there. It was 3 degrees when I left the house, a -10 with the wind. Almost all the school districts in Virginia are closed today, but most counties in Maryland have decided that to close would be to give in to the Polar Vector.
So what are your temps this morning?

Good morning. Can I just stay home today?!
YWIW, your story brings me back to when I first moved to DC and I traded cat watching duties with one of my so-called friends. I went away for a few days to come back to find out said friend never set foot into my apartment to feed my cats. Food and water bowls empty. They got so desperate one of them managed to open the refrigerator door. I saw RED when I got home.
Since then I always have 2 people on call when I'm out of town.

Mornin'
5• here, Moony, with a wind chill factor of -20.
I'm more concerned with Max than with me, particularly his paws. I balm protected them this morning, and he'll be indoors most of the day but I still worry. I need to find some kind of foot covering that will work for him.

You know, on Saturday, I was offered a huge voucher from Delta to take a later flight through Minnesota, or go the following morning. For many reasons - including weather cat issues, I am glad my greed did not give in to my desire to get home. I wonder if I would even be here yet if I had a later flight!
Stay warm Adults - it is lovely here in L.A. - times like this are the reason we live in this place.
