I'm absolutely with Kelly on this one. Rosie should have conceded the point.
I will, of course, be following Kathy's advice, betty....wish I was seeing her instead, tho.
and a drink or two, methinks.
Just wondering if Brad Pitt or George Clooney would of put their hands on her mouth, what would she have done?

I just happened to catch it today. I always have GMA on in the morning before class and when I get back, I usually switch right over to Will & Grace on Lifetime, but for some reason, I kept The View on today.
They first showed the clip and it was obvious that there was some awkwardness/tension between Kelly and Clay during that part. I didn't immediately think what Kelly said sounded homophobic, but I could see how Rosie might get that.
HOWEVER, when Kelly called in, right away, and tried to explain herself I think Rosie was a bit ridiculous. Kelly said that until she watched the View she didn't even think about it could possibly come off that way and apologized. Not for what she said (she explained it as being a mom and knowing what germs are out there, especially since she saw Clay shaking hands of many of the audience members that morning) but she sorry that comment was taken that way.
Some disputes on this board came to mind. There have been plenty of instances when someone makes a comment and others take it other than the way the poster intended. Usually, even amidst personal attacks, the poster will clarify their actual meaning and we accept it.
Kelly did sound really bitchy on the phone, I was kind of surprised, but I kind of felt bad for her. She was shocked that her comment was taken to be homophobic and then when she tried to offer an explanation it just for some reason wasn't accepted. I'd be somewhat pissed too.

Saw it, and laughed my @$$ off! Rosie had a look on her face like "Oh ****. How am I gonna win this one?"
I LOVE Rosie and I agree with her about what happend. Like she said, do you really think she would have thrown Mario Lopez's hand off her mouth if he had did it?
I think she would have. It's a disrespectful, demeaning gesture.
I got better appendages for my mouth than Mario's HAND.
I saw the show that featured Clay and Kelly. Clay was rude to Kelly the ENTIRE episode, even way before the hand incident. The hand incident was tame in comparison to how Clay treated her the whole episode. He was offended because Kelly did some skit where she impersonated Clay and his sensitive diva ass got offended and took it out on her.
Kelly should have said a lot worse to him! Rosie should chill.
I have had the pleasure of working with Kelly Ripa on a number of occasions and she is in no way homophobic. Rosie is making way too much of this. If someone put their hand on her mouth she would have done the same thing. I respect Rosie for always trying to help out gay people, but she is taking it too far this time. I only saw the little clip on TMZ, but I don't think Kelly sounded b*tchy....she sounded like a woman who unfairly had to defend herself. Rosie was just as out of line as Clay was.
I think the entire situation was just created because he doesn't have the guts to come out. Rosie is just stating that Kelly wouldn't have said that to Mario Lopez or another celebrity, and she has a point, Kelly was uncomfortable and on TV and her joke was indeed funny, but it showed she discriminates somehow.
Although I must say, I knew that Clay was gay, but I didn't know he was so bitchy!
Technically, he assaulted her.
Using Mario Lopez as an example is ironic.
Hey, preferring Mario to Clay doesn't make her homophobic, just sighted.

Does Kelly Ripa have a long-standing infatuation with Mario Lopez? If so, why is everyone so sure she'd lick his hand?
the irony wasn't lost on me or Ali Landry, Rath.
Thank you, SOMMS.

I thought maybe Rosie chose a hispanic person because Ripa's husband is hispanic. Kelly should cry racism!
He most certainly did assault her. The way he treated her was demeaning and rude. It is just common knowledge that you never resort to being physical to solve a dispute. It showed a blatant lack of respect and courtesy, and you seem to forget he was a GUEST on the program. He was entirely out of line and disrespected her on national television.
Let us hope that someone like Brad Pitt or George Clooney would not have done something that tacky and rude in the first place, because hopefully they have respect for women.
okay, so Mario is a bad example--how about dirty rotten guy?
Rosie's thought bubble: "Oh, now she'll never top me!"

I think she would've been mad if anyone had done the same thing Clay did. I would be too. I just wonder if she would've said the same thing she did in the same way she did if it was one of the other guys mentioned in this thread who did it. You can say that all the rumors about Clay (including the whole male prostitute thing) are what are making people twist what she said into how they want to see it, but it's not impossible that those things made her say what she said.
As far as people wondering whether or not Clay would've done that to a male co-host, I think there might be something to that. I doubt he would've, but he seems pretty obnoxious in general, so who knows.
