ok, let's pretend that Clay isn't gay. we all know Clay won't speak on the rumours and what not. from reading the essay, rosie seems like she jumped to a conclusion, and in doing so, contributed to the "gay Clay" rumours by saying something was homophobic.
I've seen clay on other talk shows and from this description, clay sounds no different from what I've seen before. he wants to be the center of attention always, and if he isn't he tries to slide in some joke about how he is not getting the attention he deserves, and tries to bring the focus back onto him. he did it with the hand over mouth thing, and a few weeks back, he was the second guest on Leno, and I think Howie Mandell was the first, and when Clay came out, (haha), he was talking with Jay, and Howie interjected some funny one liners, taking the focus from Clay, which he did not like. he was all like "this is my segment, this is about me,now" in that joking-but-not-joking-way. he is rather annoying.
Rosie seems wrong here to jump to conclusions,
Clay is wrong becuase he is an attention seeker, and is not out yet.
Kelli is wrong for chastising Rosie on national tv.
they are all wrong.

CLAY AIKEN is disrespectful to all people:
This does not surprise me, a school down here near me, last year had their choir sing with Clay at a holiday concert and he treated them with no respect, did not pay them like he'd promised, no meet and greet time, and for food, got them HAPPY MEALS.
EDIT: I saw what Clay did and there had been NO REASON for what he did to Kelly at all, she's a pro at the interviewing game by now and she knew what she was doing, I feel that she was only defending herself. I love Rosie, but she did jump to conclusions on this one.

Clay Aiken said to be a mean diva to kids on his Christmas tour
By Josh Eells
Blender, March 2005
American Idol runner-up Clay Aiken may resemble one of Santa’s elves, but at a New Jersey high school recently, he acted more like the Grinch.
On December 2, the pointy-eared pop star invited Clearview Regional High’s Vocal Ensemble in Mullica Hill, N.J., to perform with him at a local stop on his Christmas tour. But when he arrived for rehearsal, his inner diva took over.
Aiken refused to have his photo taken or to sign autographs, despite prior guarantees to the contrary. The meal he promised the students was two hours late. Less than an hour before show time, McDonald’s Happy Meals finally showed up.
When one faculty member — recently named New Jersey’s State Teacher of the Year — complained, Aiken allegedly had security escort her from the theater. Another teacher said she was hesitant to speak out because Aiken had threatened to “make trouble” if anyone “called the newspaper.” She did anyway, and was suspended for six days.
The triple-platinum-selling singer also promised to make a donation to the school’s music program in a ceremony after the show. When students opened the envelope he left them, it was empty.
The school’s superintendent did find one bright side. At least the kids, many of whom want careers in the music industry, “got a taste of real-life show business,” he said. Aiken declined to comment.

Meh. I think Kelly had a point, and Rosie overreacted. Gay or straight, there's an awful lot of folks who don't wash their hands, let alone use soap, after using a restroom. First rule of preschool: Keep your hands to yourself. Well, that and sneeze into your elbow.
R.I.P
Doodlenyc's joke.

i hate these posts where people assume we dont have jobs & are home watching daytime television
Gay or straight, I'm willing to bet that Gaykin has his hand down his pants...alot!
so what have we learned today?
clay is a douche, rosie said her peace and was still pissed, kelly said her peace and is a chirpy little dipstick with ego issues? yes. moving on.
You assumed I assumed. How is that fair?
I agree Rosie overreacted. What happened on REGIS & KELLY was just television. Clay tried to be funny and Kelly reacted as a human and professional talk show host. I don't believe she's a homophobe - just a good (and probably over-protective) mother.
Rosie saw it as a homophobic thing. THAT'S FINE. But when Ripa explained herself ON THE AIR via telephone, Rosie should have accepted it and apologized. Instead, she persisted in making her "VIEW" heard. Kelly Ripa had every right to say "Rosie, you should know better than that."
I'm with Kelly on this one.
Clay was having a diva moment when he put his hand over Kelly's mouth. It was disrespectful. PLUS, you never touch a woman, especially in that way. It really is just gross and class-less. She has been hosting daytime TV and is a good sport. He could have busted her chops, he did not need to touch her. You could see she was rattled by it and peturbed. There was nothing homophobic about her comment. All she inferred was that "you could be a dirtbag." It was all the audience members and ROSIE who project onto it the gay rumors about Clay and make it scandalous. Kelly has more queen friends than you can count.
I think Rosie is and will always be aggressive and unpleasant in her demeanor. She looks for the worst in people. Nobody seems to be talking about women's issues and the fact that you don't put your hand over a woman's mouth.
Rosie would be irate if any guy did that to her.
Give Kelly a break. She had a right to be pissed because Clay is a little beeyotch and needed to be knocked down a few pegs.
Rosie needs to learn how to pick a battle. Plus, a private conversation would have been better with Kelly.
Plus his new mullet just sucks.
Clay's an ass and Rosie lives in her own world.
so what have we learned today?
clay is a douche
No. "Learned today" would infer that knowledge was not already at our (clean and pleasant smelling) fingertips.
Go to TMZ.com for the story and video!
That's where I go for my up-to-the-minute juicy entertainment gossip!
Wow - I sound like I work for TMZ! I don't, but wish I could!
It sounds like Kelly is listening when the CDC and others say that the fastest way of spreading infectious diseases is through contact with dirty hands. In the meantime, Rosie and Clay are living in their own little worlds.
CDC published a paper on this very subject and it's been repeated over and over again by other health care professionals. Kelly was right to be protective of herself and her kids. I don't blame her one bit for getting angry at both of them.
Just watched this on my TIVO.
Rosie is completely out of line.
It is absolutely true that what Clay Aiken did was rude and disrespectful to Kelly. He was a guest on her show and treated her in a manor that was demeaning. In no circumstance do you put your hand over another person’s mouth. That is harassment, plain and simple. Kelly handled it with poise and wit, and showed incredible control not to slap him and show him his place. I think he joke was witty and cute, and absolutely NOT homophobic. Clay was out of line and owes Kelly a very public apology. It goes back to the plain and simple treat people as you wish to be treated, and Clay was just wrong. PERIOD.
As for Rosie, she was also 100% in the wrong to me. She completely misconstrued Kelly’s statement and then went on nation television to bash her without evidence to back up her statement. Rosie dragged someone through the mud for no good reason, and that really upset me. Then Kelly one again handled it brilliantly by calling in and tackling the issue. She did not make wild accusation like Rosie, but plainly said she was being irresponsible and forgave. Rosie however refused to admit she was wrong and came across as a stubborn and overly righteous bitch. Quite frankly these accusations made by Rosie are what hurts the gay community and makes us look like we are always crying wolf, so when someone is actually being homophobic, we are not listened to. Rosie holds a great position and is able to reach out to many people, which can be a huge tool to the gay community, be she abused this today. I think she also owes Kelly an apology because quite frankly it is true, she was out of line and accusatory without having learned all the facts first, and publicly humiliated someone for no good reason.
In summary:
Clay was out of line
Rosie was wrong and stubborn
Kelly was dragged through the coals for standing up for herself

I like this Rosie quote, ""If that was a straight man, if that was a cute man, if that was a guy she didn't question his sexuality, she would have said a different thing. I guarantee if that was Mario Lopez, she would not have said the same thing."
if that was a cute man Hee.
Poor Clay. But seriously, the dude's not out, has shown zero signs of coming out (so much so that I'm wondering why we're allowed to discuss it here. Oh right. He's never been on Broadway), so it's a little disingenuous to claim homophobia. Unless this was actually part of some secret ruse to force him out of the closet and Kelly and Rosie were actually working together.
Seriously, though, how come calling Clay gay doesn't get the screeches of "privacy" and "what a terrible thing to say about him" that saying the same thing about someone like Barret Foa (or until recently, Neil Partick Harris) engenders?
That's what I am saying, god help any man who tried to put his hand over Rosie's mouth, gay or straight. Rosie just looks ridiculous with this tirade.
Actually, though it seems to have opened up the issue even further as Kelly when on to state that Aiken was ungrateful and unprofessional in how he dealt with the show. Kelly is well liked and when backed into a corner she will call it like she sees it. Go Kelly.
Kelly is talented and very well liked and powerful. It would benefit Mr. Akien if he offered an olive branch. If he threw a diva turn on a very popular high rated show, he needs to apologize. Clay's behavior was also very "bitchy" and didn't help his "I'm not gay" case. He is a little bitchy boy. A professional gentleman wouldn't act out like that.
Plus, as I stated earlier, his mullet sucks.
bit of a threadjack here, but...I am being dragged to see the Gayken at the Count Basie in NJ.
Doodle, as Kathy Griffin would say, go, relax, and enjoy the spectacle. Have a drink beforehand.
"If that was a straight man, if that was a cute man, if that was a guy she didn't question his sexuality, she would have said a different thing. I guarantee if that was Mario Lopez, she would not have said the same thing."
Nice going, Rosie.
