There is a huge difference between host and guest. If a member of my household put their feet on the couch--no big deal. If Leo from down the street, whom I invited to a dinner party, did I would have a fit. Updated On: 11/21/06 at 08:59 PM
It's called a double standard.
A host should always be gracious and accommodating to their guests; not go out of their way to make them feel uncomfortable and unwelcome. Kelly is making a mountain out of a mole hill. Even the way she spoke to Rosie was condescending. Who the f*@k does this bitch think she is, anyway? It's about time someone let some of the air out of her over-inflated ego. Clay may be a pissy queen herself, but a least she has a modicum of talent.

I think Kelly's charming.

Regis has a decades long career in broadcasting, and certainly had a say in picking Kelly as his new host - which was a weeks long process. Their ratings speak for themselves, no matter what anyone might think of them or the show.
And the fact is, it is THEIR show. Clay was the visitor, and in that capacity should have been the one to meld into the situation. His actions speak volumes about his lack of professionalism.
Kelly's comment can only be construed as homophobic through skewed vision, and speaks volumes about Rosie's level of anger and frustration with the world in general.
DG, couldn't have said it better myself.
SM2 - If you only knew. I just prefer to be innocent when it comes to Clay Aiken, all things considered.
justagirl2: It's always the (seemingly) innocent ones...
Kelly Ripa has put her hands on Regis, yes, but that is different. She and Regis know each other. She knows where Regis' hands have been (insert two of a million jokes here).
However, Clay Aiken had just shaken hands with people in the audience. What if papalovesmambo and Clay exchanged germs, then passed it on to Kelly? She'd have to be quarantined!!

Towleroad has clips posted of the incident with Clay, the phone call on THE VIEW and the follow-up R&K LIVE where Regis and Kelly talk about it. Having watched all three, I can't see where Kelly has handled herself with anything but honesty and professional integrity.

I just finished watching the View and I think the whole thing is a publicity stunt on ABC's behalf. Both shows are on ABC and if there is one golden rule that the mouse requires is that you don't dog anither member of your own network. No matter how "Rosie" your view may be.
And thank god for Miss Shari Shepard sitting there - I can just see how ingratiating Barbara Walters would have been had she been at the opposite end of the table. Plus - Shari grabbing Rosie's boob was worth the entire hour.

"I think the whole thing is a publicity stunt on ABC's behalf"
Very possible, Cheeze, very possible. Even in the midst of that confrontational phone call, both Rosie and Kelly kept repeating how much they like and respect each other.
SM2- That's not a double standard, it all has to do with social norms. When my best friend and I are having a conversation, she can stand very close to me and it doesn't bother me, but if a stranger or acquaintance did the same thing I would be uncomfortable. That usually is the case with most other people, as well. It's an issue of familiarity and respect.
Double standards apply to groups of people.

They sure did did'nt they. Now it's all over ET and Access Hollywood - was it really THAT big of a deal? I am really beginning to wonder.

Cheeze - the only one who isn't coming out on any positive note is Clay. I'm assuming he's not represented by one of their companies . . .
I can't see how Clay is being defended and Kelly is being disparaged.. he was INSULTING her blatantly the entire episode. Most of the people commenting here have not even seen the whole episode.

I did. I didnt think much of it. It did however, in retrospect seem tense post the whole "thats a no-no". He was quite rude to her all through the episode. When someone impersonates you, in a joking fashion, its not meant as a diss, its suppose to be funny. Clay obviously can't take a joke, or be joking at all.
effie
i totally agree, after watching the view clip, it really looked like rosie was trying to make it seem like a problem it wasnt.if you watch her, she is like "well i can't win this" clay is a rude jackass, i know several people that met him after his xmas concert in orlando, and he was sooooooo rude.
I wish more that anything in the world I could see Kathy's next show. She should hold a press conference and be the national correspondent for this whole matter!
"When someone impersonates you, in a joking fashion, its not meant as a diss, its suppose to be funny. Clay obviously can't take a joke..."
And Kelly can dish it out but she can't take it. She's being a childish little B-I-T-C-H! Even Regis tried to reason with her, to no avail. If she's so in the right, why wouldn't Regis, of all people, side with her? Why did he try to get her to see things from Clay's perspective? He certainly has more of a vested interest in keeping Kelly happy than he does Clay. It's because he knows she's overreacting and being a bitch. A no-talent Kathy Lee mini-me; that's all she is. And how nauseating, bringing up Howard Stern, of all people. If you have to sink so low as to consol yourself over the fact that the likes of a Howard Stern gave you a call of support after the show, you're really scraping the bottom of the barrel. And by the way... you don't necessarily have to be a bona fide homophobe to make a homophobic remark. You can't tell me that isn't what she was going for when she made that comment. Skewed vision my ass! Do you people have eyes and ears???

Luscious, honey, dial it down a notch. I, for one, DID say that wasn't what she intended - and that's based on what I observed. If that's not how you see it, so be it. But that doesn't make it so.

Why are the gays defending that closeted little twerp? And isn't Rosie actually outing him by claiming to know that what was on Kelly's mind was homophobia? Or does Rosie, like the rest of the country, think the male escort story in the Enquirer was true?
good lord
rippa did not make any kinda of negative slur or comment at all, all she did is tell someone "HEY DONT TOUCH MY MOUTH" but i guess someone has to make a big deal about it, i guess if clay was straight i bet this would'nt be a big deal, but thanks rosie for making it almost as big as herself
"Luscious, honey, dial it down a notch."
LOL! You're right, DG. I really do need to dial it down a bit. No offense intended. I don't know why I give a s#it. I'm no fan of either one of them! Guess I'm just in a feisty mood. Time to call it a day and give it a rest.

Namo - I pretty much thought Rosie's bigger priority was to link Clay and 'gay' together.
