Chick-Fil-A Funds Anti-Gay Organizations

Posted: 1/5/11 at 10:34amThere is a difference in putting yourself out there as a Christian company and supporting a VERY anti-gay group. I sent Chik-fil-a an email, as I am sure hundreds have. We don't have them here, but I will be as loud and obnoxious as I can to make sure my friends back home stop eating there if they don't bow out of this.

They might not have been a sponsor after all. Their name has vanished from the promotional material and the company has tweeted that they're "looking into the issue." In all likelihood, and individual franchise put the company's name on it without corporate HQ permission.
Not that there aren't plenty of other reasons to avoid it, not the least of which being their support of Focus on the Family.

Count me in on the "I don't care, it tastes good."
Chick-fil-a is about the only fast food I can safely eat b/c of varying reasons. If I were to boycott, it would mean never grabbing a fast meal with friends ever again. And if that makes me a bad person, so be it.

Because chicken sandwiches are so hard to find at other fast food places?

Posted: 1/6/11 at 9:07pmchick-fil-a is the only fast food resturaunt who uses specially processed oils so that they have no trace allergens or proteins left in them in them, the part of the food which people with food allergies react to. so yes, chick-fil-a might be the only fast food resturaunt someone can eat at.

Thank you AbbaRabbit. As Calvin and probably Taz can vouch, I have lots of food allergies.
And no, probably not ever again, but if I wanted to eat, yes.

As someone who has worked for Chick-fil-A for two years (both a single franchise and corporate), I have sent them an e-mail and will post a response.
I was openly gay and treated equally by EVERY co-worker and boss. I had anti-gay issues with customers, but did live in the South, so that was not too uncommon.

Chick-Fil-A issued a statement about the local operator who did this.
'To our Facebook community: First and foremost, thanks for your patience as we made sure we gathered the facts in regards to recent postings. We have determined that one of our independent Restaurant Operators in Pennsylvania was asked to provide sandwiches to two Art of Marriage video seminars. As our fans, you know we do our best to serve our local communities, and one of the ways we do that is by providing food to schools, colleges, civic groups, businesses, places of worship, not-for-profit groups, etc. At his discretion, the local Operator agreed to simply provide a limited amount of food. Our Chick-fil-A Operators and their employees try very hard every day to go the extra mile in serving ALL of our customers with honor, dignity and respect.'

Yeah that is a super-sized load of BS. Chick-Fil-A has and always will be a devoutly Christian organization that plows the profits from your chicken purchase into fighting gays and gay marriage.

The New York Times has a great article on the growing scrutiny of Chick-Fil-A's pro-Christian, anti-gay corporate culture:
The company’s Christian culture and its strict hiring practices, which require potential operators to discuss their marital status and civic and church involvement, have attracted controversy before, including a 2002 lawsuit brought by a Muslim restaurant owner in Houston who said he was fired because he did not pray to Jesus with other employees at a training session. The suit was settled....
Sarah Beth Thomas, 23, sees both sides of the issue. Ms. Thomas grew up as a Southern Baptist in a small town in north Georgia. Her daily high school lunch was a Chick-fil-A chicken biscuit and sweet tea. On Mondays, she would bring in her church bulletin and exchange it for a free sandwich.
Since college, her views have softened but not her dedication to the chain. Now, she says, she is hooked on the chicken, not the religion. Still, she said she had empathy for people who struggle to choose between their beliefs and a sandwich.
“It’s a hard call, a personal call,” she said. “You have to decide which soul you want to feed.”

Well, New Yorkers don't have much to worry about in terms of eating Chik-Fil-A unless they like journeying to an NYU dining hall for their greasy fix.
Bad, Chik-Fil-A, bad!
But it tastes so good. ADDICTION, indeed!!

Just found out that the Del Taco they recently torn down right outside West Hollywood is now becoming a Chika-fil-a...
This ought to be really fun to see what happens!

I'm still processing this statement.

I want to say something about that quote, but I too am processing.
Is she comparing a fast food sandwhich to spiritual nourishment? Can anyone be that stupid?
I have been known to pray to various flavors of Ben and Jerry's before, but at least that's a legitimate cult. I mean have you tried Karamel Sutra? Divine.

They're out here in SoCal, too.
edit - I guess that's obvious, by what Diva just said.
