Calling Bernadette's Bluff - Dale McGowan

The story of an atheist philosophy teacher at a "feminist" women's Catholic college on a prairie in Minnesota. It's an academic satire and heavily centered on the debate between faith and reason. The book is not an easy beach read, but not particularly heavy. You are forced to think but will laugh out loud on many, many, many occasions.

The stabs at religion are many and the book is chock full of wit and satire.

I very highly recommend this book!

I'm currently re-reading my books by Tamora Pierce because I've been missing them recently...and then I have a few library books by Paulo Coelho (who wrote "The Alchemist".....great author!).

If you enjoy reading--or even just beautiful writing, you should check out Jodi Picoult. She is far and away my favorite author. She has a beautiful, flowing style. As a writer myself, I adore her so much. I even got to meet her in February and she is SO wonderful in person!

Umm...you may be familiar with her if you've seen the Lifetime movies "The Pact" and/or "Plain Truth." Her first book to be a 'big bestseller' and catapult her up in the world was "My Sister's Keeper," which is my favorite book EVER and worth checking out. My second-favorite book is also by her--"Keeping Faith." Both of these books have been optioned to become movies sometime soon.

Her latest book just came out this past March. It is called "The Tenth Circle" and is the first novel to interweave graphic novel pages into the text in order to portray a character's feelings and emotions. These pages also are heavily tied to Dante's "Inferno," which is one of the world's great classics.

Jodi Picoult has a smart, intelligent writing style. She writes things that resonate in the real world. Many (though not all) of her books wind up in the court room, which is a fascinating process in and of itself. She deals with many current events in society over the years, such as euthanasia, designer babies, etc. Her next two books will deal with the psyches of 1) a kid who goes into his school and kills his peers, and 2) an innmate on death row.

She does in-depth research on her topics, from going to a jail in Arizona and talking to people on death row to studying in Alaska to living with an Amish family in Lancaster to going to work with real-life ghost-hunters, etc.

She is absolutely amazing and I would recommend her to anyone looking for a good, fulfilling read. Many of her books are in my favorites list.

Anthony Rapp's book is good, but either you haven't read much, or just have weird tastes.

Anyway, I'm re-reading SON OF A WITCH.

LOVE LOVE LOVED IT. Couldn't put it down and was VERY upset when I finished it. I thought the author (Lauren Weisberger) perfectly balanced Andrea's personal and RUNWAY life. My only problem was with the ending which just seemed too dramatic for the character she had set up in Andrea. But, a great read none the less.

I'm three chapters in to Patty Jane's House of Curl. Not much has happened story-wise, but I love the way Lorna Landvik turns a sentence.
