What a fun Oscars Show!
Congrats to Helen Mirren, Forrest Whitaker (who knew he started out studying opera as a tenor), Martin Scorsese, Alan Arkin (the orig In-Laws is 1 of my favs) and Jennifer Hudson & more. & I'm especially happy for "Happy Feet", & "An Inconvenient Truth"...
I wish I could have heard Ennio Morricone's & the Bergmans' song better. Was it only me, or was the sound system hinkey?

It was okay. Too much extra crap. Is this one of the longest Oscar ceremonies in years?
The Jack Black, Will Farrell, John C. Reilly bit was horrible.
The tributes were too plentiful and too long.
I'm pleased that HAPPY FEET won. Thrilled for Whitaker and Mirren.
Pissed that THE DEPARTED and Scorsese cleaned up.

Anyone notice that in the closing credits, they played what seemed like a medley of Broadway songs? Although I know they are all from movies, I heard "Oklahoma", "Chim Chiminey", and "Fame".
Jeff
Martin Scorsese absolutely deserved to with his Oscar.
I loved the "Big Three" Directors showing they have a sense of humor when they presented Scorsese with his Oscar. Good luck to Lucas....
Milla
They always play that. It's a mix of all famous themes...ET, MARY POPPINS, FAME, ARTHUR'S SONG, CHARIOTS OF FIRE, etc.
People will say that Scorsese deserved his Oscar because he is Scorsese and they know his past body of work.
If you were to screen all 5 best director nominated films back to back without knowing who actually directed them, there is no way in hell that THE DEPARTED would be singled out as having the best director. No way in hell. That title would go to BABEL, LETTERS FROM IWO JIMA, and UNITED 93 before THE DEPARTED.
It's the OSCARS! You're not really expecting justice, logic or reason, are you????
I thought it was a fun show.

Man, Munk. Bitter much?
Updated On: 2/26/07 at 12:34 AM
Just because I'm discussing something doesn't mean I'm bitter. It means I'm passionate.
I thought the first two hours were kind of boring and Ellen was not very funny as the host...just my opinion.
It started getting good when Jennifer Hudson won. The Dreamgirls performance of the three musical numbers was also fantastic...sad that none of those songs won. Loved Whitaker's speech, the fact that Helen Mirren won, Martin's standing ovation and cheers after they called his name, and The Departed winning best picture. The last 30 minutes were the best, but most of the rest of the evening fell flat for me.

Well, there's nothing wrong with bitter. I'm just giving you a hard time.
wait... wait... HOLD UP.
people actually enjoyed Happy Feet?
Boring show. Glad Mirren won, glad Hudson won.
Munk - I don't know you, but because of your previous avatar I kept thinking of you throughout the evening.
Thanks! Unfortunately, I take the Oscars more seriously than the Academy seems to.
I loved HAPPY FEET. I'm thrilled that it won.
I didn't love the DREAMGIRLS performances. "Love You I Do" started off with promise, but quickly got muddled and nonsensical. I don't like how Beyonce and Hudson shared the two songs - it sounded choppy and almost out of control. The staging of "Listen" was embarrasing (with the "man" standing there), and "Patience" was just odd. It's too bad...it had such promise.
Yes, Savion's performance in HAPPY FEET was amazing.

F*** An Inconvenient Truth! SH*Tty SH*Tty documentary.

I thought it was a highlight! I loved it.

I actually watched all Best Picture nominated films back to back to back at AMC on Saturday: BABEL, THE QUEEN, DEPARTED, IWO JIMA and LITTLE MISS SUNSHINE, starting at 11am, ending about 11:30pm. Didn't get to see UNITED 93 in the bunch, of course, but of the four directors I did see THE DEPARTED was in my opinion the best directed. I didn't think it was the best film, but I did absolutely think it was the best directed.

You're kidding, right?

No I am not. There were FAR more deserving documentaries this year. For example, 49 UP.

Glad for Scorsese, not for Departed. What an unimpressionable film. I was happy to see The Lives of Others take home the award though for foreign over Pan's Labrinth. Dreamgirls cancelled itself out and yay for Mirren and Hudson AND Whitaker.
