On the Television side of the nominations, I am thrilled for:
Ed Harris
Bill Nighy
Zach Braff
Mary Louise Parker
Patrick Dempsey
Matthew Fox
Patricia Arquette
Polly Walker
Naveen Andrews
Jeremy Piven
Elizabeth Perkins
this is very interesting:
"This is the first time in the history of the Golden Globes that all of the best (dramatic) film nominees are independent movies made for under $30 million," said Philip Berk, president of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association.
Best Film (Drama): Brokeback Mountain, The Constant Gardener, Good Night and Good Luck, History of Violence, Match Point
That is very interesting...
I'm very disappointed that Joan Allen was ignored.
Still... most of the nominees are excellent.
So exciting Eva got nominated this year for Housewives! Her time has come.
And why was Mariska Hargitay not nominated? She won last year. I'm SHOCKED.
I think you're right, RobbO. Very interesting trend...
I'm going through lists of potential nominees, and some categories were very competitive... Which means the Academy Award nominations will be even more competitive, with fewer nominations available.
I can't find a budget for Mrs Henderson Presents but the rest of the movies you list are under the 30 million mark.

I, too, am shocked that no big budget films made it...I mean, this is the HFPA! You'd think they'd want big budgets to get some notice.
These noms make me pissy.
i think it's a fairly safe bet that that movie was made for under $30 million.
Very happy about Geena Davis!!!!!!
Wished that Mira Sorvino got a nom. for Human Trafficking.
I had no idea that Tony Kushner wrote the screenplay for Munich. It least it was nominated for that.

I dunno, RobbO, Dame Dench is an expensive biotch. Her salary alone could've been 25 mill.
and yet, look what dame judi can do with it: Her 1999 Oscar was awarded for an 8 minute performance in Shakespeare in Love in 1998.*
*which, as we know, was to make up for her taking 3 days off from performing in London in Amy's View, flying to LA and not winning for Mrs Brown the previous year.

i added a footnote just for you, poppy.
I hate you.

Well, it was closer to 7 and a half.
Give her some credit.

Nice to see that Ang Lee Brokeback has been nominated for directing Mountain.
Unless Spielberg pulls an upset and wins the director category.
The only omission I am upset about is Joan Allen in "Upside Of Anger." I think it is the best performance of the year. Why the studio is not campaigning on her behalf is beyond me.
With KING KONG and MUNICH out of the running at the Globes, it's almost a given that BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN will win Best Picture at the Oscars.
I disagree. Last year, there was hardly any buzz about MILLION DOLLAR BABY and it didn't win Best Picture at the GG's and it went on to win four Oscars including Best Pic. Munich or King Kong (or even Walk the Line for that matter) will all prove to be tough competition to BBM at the Oscars. I predict either King Kong or Munich will win Best Picture. WTL and BBM will be tough competition though with a last opening slot. Maybe Crash? The Best Picture category will most defintely be a nail bitter at the Oscars. But I honestly dont think that the GG nominations indicate any Oscar winners or nominees. It's all momentum and how much buzz is going around the movie at certain times etc.
I wouldn't be so sure about BBM winning Best Picture at the Oscars...the potential for backlash is enormous, and we haven't really seen what the film's reaction is going to be in middle America. The good news is that its the front runner to win - the bad news is that it's a small film, it's a gay film - and its dangerous to have such a risky movie as your front runner.
Anything can happen this year, which is very exciting indeed!
I agree, btw, that MUNICH received the biggest blow in losing out on a BP nod. KONG is a surprise darkhorse -- no one really saw it coming as a BP threat until about a week ago.
Wickedrocks,
I hate to correct you.. but "Million Dollar baby" had huge buzz from day one.
