"Munk, didn't you vote for Knightley on your page? "
Yes, because Danes isn't there.

It's really sad that brilliant work gets unrecognized because the campaign team wasn't on the ball, or even thinking ahead.
They were thinking TOO FAR ahead. They sent out screeners way ahead of everyone else, and received press for starting so early. That cost them, I think. Plus the movie did nothing and was quickly and easily forgotten, it seems.
I agree with most of that, but I wouldn't say it was forgotten. Most of the people who sought it out looked at it as something special. I just hope that Amy Adams wins the Critics Choice.
Yay for Eva Longoria! She really did deserve a nomination!

For those keeping score, my predictions for the nominations were a little more than 50% true (they would've been exactly 50% true if it weren't for the weird sixth nominee thing). This is the worst I've ever done with predicting the nods for the GGs.
I'm extremely, EXTREMELY depressed about Catherine Keeners snub for her inexplicably incredible performance in CAPOTE. Escatic about MacClaine, though, who was excellent in In Her Shoes.
What impressed you so much about Catherine Keener's peformance in Capote?
I thought she created a more interesting and compelling character in The 40 Year Old Virgin.
I honestly can't pinpoint what it was but I found her to be constantly intriguing and astounding. The years most underrated performance by FAR.
There's something about Keener I find just so natural and so TRUE when she's acting.

I completely agree. She was perfect in CAPOTE...just not remarkable in anyway. Her character was written in a way that doesn't really allow her to be anything other than great. Award worthy actress? Obviously, yes. Award winning role? Not so much.

Wait..how is Walk The Line a musical or a comedy?

Well, it's a biopic/drama with music, which qualifies it for the comedy/musical category as far as the Golden Globes are concerned.

Ah I see...actually not really....but these are the people who are rewarding Desperate Housewives
Well. nominating at least. I'm hoping that Weeds pulls an upset.
LOL what do you have against Desperate Housewives relative to other series?
I'm no big fan of the show. I don't watch it regularly. But from what I've seen and heard, the actresses (especially Felicity Huffman) and writers aren't just average.
Those are the people rewarding Desperate Housewives? That would have some merit to it if every other award snubbed the show and if it isn't one of the most watched shows on TV. Unfortunately, for you, you're in the minority there on DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES.

True. But I don't like Desperate Housewives, I'm allowed to say it.
It's not that I don't like Felicity Huffman, I like her a lot. I just don't see much point to the show and yeah I'm in a minority but I don't like it. Granted I don't watch much T.V.
It's one thing to say you don't like it - that's understandable.
But to say that the Golden Globes are to be taken less seriously because they included DH is not.
I, too, am confused by Keener's acclaim for playing Harper Lee.
PS - Was anyone else shocked by Pierce Brosnan's nomination? That came out of nowhere.

Add me to the list that doesn't understand Keener's award streak for CAPOTE -- she just doesn't have anything to do in that role. I'd rather see Tilda Swinton nominated for Narnia any day.
I'm guessing it's because she had four solid supporting roles this year... That's the only possibility I can think of.

Munkustrap, I understand where you're coming from but I have never been one to take award ceremonies in Hollywood very seriously just because more often than not it's politics more than anything else. To me, DH is just some show about beautiful rich women who seem to keep getting into trouble. True, there are times where it's amusing and there are good jokes, but for some reason it's always been just another Sex and the City for me. But again, I don't usually watch a lot of TV so I'm not the best person to vouch for shows. I completely understand where you're coming from but for me it's just not a serious thing, and that's a personal issue that I'm in the minority with, true. For example, I thought Brokeback Mountain was a beautifully made movie with captivating performances but it's made too much of a big deal that the theme is homosexuality. True, what reviewers and tv peronalities are saying about how it's all homosexual so there is a trend just like black people or fat people or ugly people winning Oscars. It just gets too much into politics for me to truly appreciate the finer points of an awards ceremony which is to honor the best in the movie (and in this case TV-making) world.
So to sum it all up, you're right that I shouldn't say it's less respectable because it's nominated DH it's just that I've never understood the appeal of awards show or DH SO put those two together and it's just not something I'm going to be ecstatic about.
That was too long of an explanation but hopefully I'm making point...
"I'd rather see Tilda Swinton nominated for Narnia any day."
I'd like to see her nominated period. It could just be that I love a woman playing a bitch. But not every woman does that well! I think it would've been fascinating to have a Youki Kudoh/ Gong Li/ Tilda Swinton/ Michelle Yeoh/ Judi Dench (Pride & Prejudice) quintet fighting out for a supporting actress win, but that's just my [very gay] fantasy.
DamnYankees has a valid argument, I think. I nonetheless find the point about black people winning awards for the sake of a political "trend" to be sad but not without merit.
