I would
Obviously, I was able to discern that from your previous post.
Me too - I thought she was great in EVITA. Certainly better than her fellow nominees that year.

What's the advance word on "Rumor Has It" with Aniston, Maclaine and Costner? That could get a nom in the musical/comedy category. It's more "respectable" than 40 Year Old Virgin or Wedding Crashers"
You really thought Madonna was better than Frances McDormand in FARGO (remember Madge's speech? Something about, 'If I don't win, please let Frances McDormand win.')
McDormand's performance was stellar. Madonna's...well...it wasn't bad! It wasn't great...but it wasn't bad.
Also, didn't Zadora win 'Best New Star' or some such nonsense?
I know it's easy to trash Madonna, especially in light of her last couple of acting projects, but I found her Evita to be pretty damn good. So did a lot of critics, from what I remember.
But Frances McDormand's performance in FARGO was the year's best. Robbiej's quotation is correct; even Madonna was rooting for her.

I found Evita to be painful in every way an adaptation of a stage musical can be painful -- change the keys, change the characterization, change the songs, change the intent, give it to untalented hacks and let them ruin it forever.
I actually thought Alan Parker did a good job. The focus was more on the figure of Eva Peron than a (rather offensive) Anglo perspective on another country's history and politics.
The Golden Globes like musicals, even medicore ones. They nominated both Emmy Rossum AND Phantom of the Opera (as best picture) last year.
They didn't seem too fond of Lord of the Rings. Ian McKellen didn't get a nom from them and LOTR didn't win any Globes until the third film. So on that note I don't know if they will like King Kong as much as everyone else.
I think we might see as many as three actress nominated from Geisha.
I think the Producers might get some acting nods......definately more at the Globes since they have a separate category.
I also think RENT will get some acting nods too. Rosario Dawson has the best shot, I think.
Mediocre doesn't even begin to describe PHANTOM's bottomless "filmmaking."
The Golden Globes are a highly insecure and psychologically-troubled bunch of journalists, always trying to saddie up to the Academy and suck up to stars (frankly, that's why I think Madonna won over McDormand). They didn't award the first two RINGS (particularly FELLOWSHIP) most likely because they felt that the Academy wouldn't, either. When RETURN OF THE KING came out, they gave more nominations to COLD MOUNTAIN. But they freaked out when that movie was shut out of the Oscar nominations, and the critic's circles (most notably the NYCC) started heaping praise on KING; only then did KING do a clean sweep at the Golden Globes, and COLD MOUNTAIN went home with only one.

Cold Mountain wasn't shut out of Oscar nods. It had 5 and won 1 (best supporting actress).
Sorry, I meant shut out of the big award, Best Picture.
I thought this was a thread about Pamela Anderson's knockers.

"The GG's are a joke. It's time to do away with 'em."
I actually prefer the Globes to the Oscars in a lot of ways. I guess part of it is because they have the split between drama and musical/comedy, they get to recognize more films and actors. Thus, they usually recognize some of my favorite films that the Oscars have absolutely no room for (Big Fish is my prime example--they nominated it for best picture AND Albert Finney, who I LOVED in this film, as well as song and score)
In fact, in that same year, Uma was nom. for Kill Bill, Jack Black for School of Rock, Billy Bob Thornton for Bad Santa, Jamie Lee Curtis for Freaky Friday...I love that they recognize great performances in 'non-Oscar' movies!
I'm fairly confident that Rosario Dawson will get nominated. Also, look for some surprise nods for The Family Stone.
As for Madonna's win... While I liked her work in Evita (and I usually HATE her), McDormand towered over her, and should have won.
Sorry, I meant shut out of the big award, Best Picture.
Don't remind me. I friggin' hated Seabiscuit.
I agree about Rosario - if only that that category is EXTREMELY open this year. There just aren't enough nominees.

oh, and the Golden Globes actually knows what a good song is--last year, all the nominated songs were great, and Old Habits Die HArd won, which I thought was pretty well deserved.
The Academy, however doesn't have a clue--they didn't even nominate that song, and out of all the great songs last year, they awarded the one I'd never heard of just because it was Spanish...I mean, come on! You had Accidentally in Love, Learn to Be Lonely, Believe! They didn't even nominate the hauntingly beautiful song from Hotel Rwanda.
Sorry, I'm just very VERY bitter about the Academy's track record in this category.
I completely agree with you on the songs.
"Old Habits Die Hard" WAS, undoubtedly, the best song of last year. I also like "Accidentally In Love" from SHREK 2..."El Otro Lado del Rio?" ABSOLUTELY NOT.
The score and song from The Motorcycle Diaries are both great. IMHO, the real problem with the Oscars and TMD was pimping out Antonio Bandaras and Santana to sing the song rather than letting it be performed as it was on the actual soundtrack. Like masses of tens of thousands of people would have tuned out for those 4 minutes had Antonio and Santana not been there to perform it.
But I agree that it was pretty ridiculous that the Oscars didn't even nominate Jaggar...and what was w/ the two nominations for Cold Mountain a couple of years ago. If anything could have had 2 nominations, I would have thought A Mighty Wind would have deserved it. How much would it have kicked ass to have the entire cast up there performing the title song?!? Television gold, I tell ya!
That song from Motorcycle Diaries was almost as boring as the film. I have no idea how it won an Oscar. Look to Your Path from Les Choristes was by far the best nominated song regardless who sang it and butchered the language.
Yeah, the same goes for The Chorus (an amazing movie, and the song was great as well)...Why can't they just have the people involved in the actual movie sing the nominated songs? I forget who they had sing the song from The Chorus...oh, just looked it up, it was Beyonce. Why?!?! OK, so it may have been a bitch getting a chorus of French boys (the actors from the movie or otherwise) to the ceremony, but don't you think they should at least make an attempt to represent the song as it was intended to be performed?
They Beyonce thing really annoyed me. She was terrible.
