Posted: 12/8/05 at 12:06pmNominations come out on Tuesday morning. I think we have a good idea of the films that will be up for best drama, but what do we all think the nods will be for best musical/comedy? you think Rent and The Producers will get nods?

Posted: 12/8/05 at 12:11pmIt seems like The Producers would be a sure thing. Still, it's weird that a film gets nominated before anyone (almost anyone) has a chance to see it.
A click for life.

I'm betting that Rent will pull out a couple of Globe nods.
I think this comedy category (assuming five nominees) will be thus:
Rent
Producers
Mrs. Henderson Presents
Walk the Line
The Family Stone
I can't see anything else making the list...anyone have alternates?

I'm a little nervous, being that Rent probably has realistic chances.

Posted: 12/8/05 at 12:21pmi don't think walk the line would be in the musicial/comedy catergory; more likely the drama category. and i highly doubt that rent will be nominated - at all.

That actually looks like a good list, touchme. The only other possibility might be something like Wallace and Gromet or 40 Year Old Virgin--something comic that we would never suspect.
And Drama will surely be
Brokeback Mountain
Munich
King Kong
Good Night, and Good Luck
Memoirs of a Geisha
Spoilers: Capote, Syriana, The History or Violence, Crash, Cinderella Man, Matchpoint, The Constant Gardener.

I'll be surprised if Good Night and Good Luck makes it in there. Syriana is a more likely bet, I'd say (as well as being a superior movie).
I saw it last night, and it was fantastic -- best movie I've seen this year.
My list would be closer to:
Syriana
Geisha
Munich
Brokeback
Crash
Although, I agree that your full list (if we include alternates) is the probable list. Although, the Globes usually throw one or two "what the fu%&!" nods in there, just for good measure.

I can't wait to see Syriana. So many films to see.
Robb--Ray was put in the musical or comedy category. However, it wouldn't shock me to see them put WTL in the Drama category if they aren't consistent.

Posted: 12/8/05 at 12:30pmi did not know that. i guess if they had "desperate housewives" up for best comedy at the emmy's they can do anything at the globes.

It's pretty much a given that RENT and THE PRODUCERS will get nominated, regardless of their quality. All studio-backed musicals always get nominated, to bolster up the latter half of the senseless "Comedy/Musical" category.
Remember when THE MASK OF ZORRO got nominated in that category? It was neither a comedy nor a musical.

Posted: 12/8/05 at 12:51pmRay was in the Musical/Comedy category last year, so I would tend to think that Walk the Line will be as well.

Posted: 12/8/05 at 12:53pmWalk the line will be in the Musical category? Well, Rent won't have a snowballs chance in hell.

Frankly, I'd be rather shocked if RENT gets nominated for much of anything here (I'd say they'd be lucky to get anything at the Oscars when they don't have the "in" w/ the Musical/Comedy category).
I didn't realize the Golden Globe nominations were coming out on Tuesday...boy, I'm behind on my movie-going! The biggies are all going to be coming out, and I really need to get caught up!
#17re: Golden Globes
Posted: 12/8/05 at 1:08pmYeah, I am not sure Rent will be nominated at all. Hell, I still liked it(mostly.)

Posted: 12/8/05 at 1:13pmThe GG's are a joke. It's time to do away with 'em.
#19re: Golden Globes
Posted: 12/8/05 at 1:17pmEh, I think they're fun. When you've got celebs drinking all night at an awards show there's always the potential for a humorous and/or awkward moment!

Um yea...how is WALK THE LINe a musical/comedy?
#21re: Golden Globes
Posted: 12/8/05 at 1:19pmNot quite as a big a joke as the National Board of Review, though.
