Well, that's got to be sort of comforting, Clarie! There's really not a whole hell of a lot you can do when they're the ones to screw up and no longer have that position/department. It's not like it was really a rejection rejection, you know?
Pat ditched us all for his new venture, Sunset & 42nd. *raspberry* At least I still give this thread a bump, even when Idol's going on!
Claire, if that's the one where Nic was supposed to proofread your cover letter, at least you have a scapegoat now!
Hey, even my procrastinating and unkept promising can't override a position that's no longer available! Phew, at least I have an excuse (albeit a flimsy one)!
TIFF LEAVE!!!!
Mabel, Tiff is supposed to be getting her applications done.. we need to not encourage her to hang out here..
No, that's not flimsy! If the position just wasn't available, you didn't really LOSE it Claire, you just didn't have any chance of getting it! (But at least it's not a full rejection!)
No, Nic, don't worry! It wasn't that one. And I ended up having to rewrite that letter anyway because it turns out they don't offer the department I wanted to apply for in the summer.
And I guess it wasn't a *real* rejection, unless they just said that to make me feel better. But I'm still bummed.
Shoo, Tiff...I had no idea you were using us as a procrastination excuse for not doing your applications!
And yeah, I know what you mean, Claire. It's really disappointing to not get an internship, regardless of the reason. I've had plenty of positions that I didn't get for timing issues. It's not the same thing, but some stuff is just out of your hands. Then there are the ones that I had plenty of time available for, and just straight up didn't get. Those certainly are a pisser!
*sneaks back in*
You know, it's such a cliche to say that the 'tween Rent fans are annoying. They've caused me to more or less stop going on the Main Board at all anymore.
But now that I have (since you beasts have blackballed me on here) and I've seen some of the Rent threads, can I just say...'tween Rent fans are so godd*mn annoying. And stupid. And preachy. And superficial. And delusional. Overused phrase of the year: "OMG!!! Rent has changed my lyfe 4 realz!!!" I doubt that 98% of these kids have ever had to deal with something more difficult than what lunch box to bring to school or what iPod to buy. Just because there's some catchy music and a young cast and now you wear a striped scarf does NOT MEAN IT'S CHANGED YOUR LIFE.
/end rant
I mean, it's so OBVIOUS but it doesn't really hit home until you read some of the drivel on there.
WORK!!!
That said, I agree with you 100%. It's so bad that I'm embarassed to wear my much-loved RENT t-shirt anymore, lest someone think I am one of the mentally-challenged masses.
Me too! And I live in Vancouver - I STILL won't wear it in public!
I mean, you know how some cliches lose it's meaning after being said so much? "Wicked and Rent fans are soooo annoying..." But godd*mmit, it's true!!
Okay, now I'm leaving. Really.
Shh, don't tell Cam!
Yeah, I haven't been on the main boards in ages. I'll skim through the topics every now and then, but there's really very little of interest there. I haven't opened a thread with "RENT" in the title since looooong before the movie came out (ah, those happy days when 18 of the threads on the main page would be RENT-realated). I enjoy RENT as much as the next person, but I think anyone who didn't see the original cast or the show at NYTW that gets all uppity about the show and how it has "changed my lyfe 4 realz!!!" gets tiresome quickly.
ETA: Oooh, you were caught! Damn, they're slick!
Unfortunately, RENT has become the new Wicked.
And Tiff, GET TO WORK!
Then I'll keep quiet I've seen the tour twice and saw it once on Broadway. Alas--in 1996 I was a middle school student stuck in Kansas. Which is where I still am, come to think of it.
Les Miz is, was, and forever will be my favorite show. But I'm starting to get REALLY annoyed by the endless threads on the front page. Ditto for Sweeney.
There are "only" 11 threads on Wicked/Rent on the main board. Somehow it just FEELS like more, but this is actually a slow period, isn't it?
The RENT movie has become the new Wicked...and it wasn't even particularly good! I know I'll end up getting the DVD eventually, but really, they are just a smidge over-zealous in their fandome...OK, there are a great many of them who are straight up F*CKin' LOONEY!!!
And yeah, back to work! *sigh* That goes for me too! Off to read...Maybe.
I got the RENT dvd yesterday and I cried while watching the documentary, but I'm not gonna go start my own thread on why it was so moving to me.
I should go work as well.
Kitz, was that "I'll keep quiet" for me on the "if you haven't seen the OBC/NYTW" bit? I didn't see the OBC/NYTW either. I'm totally including myself in that lot of people. I love my friends (also in said group) who go off and bitch about the 'tween newbies (and I think we all agree that they are indeed annoying) with this freakish air of supreriority. I don't know. Who cares if you've got an extra 4 years on them, popping your RENT cherry. You still weren't there when it was fresh and new, when people were still camping out on the street all hours of the night, and didn't stock up on every item of RENT memorobelia from the Neder gift shop.
I've seen the show twice in Boston and once on Broadway (plus the 5 year OBC reunion). I enjoy the show, it'll always have a special place in my heart (though, like you Les Miz'll always be my baby; it was my first Broadway show). But, I will be the first to admit that it's gone way downhill, and I have a mile long list of shows that I'd much rather spend my $25 on.
How is that documentary, Claire? Isn't it feature-length, with the OBC? Frankly, that is of more interest to me than the actual movie. It's such a shame that after being in the works, on-again, off-again, it was so lacklustre.
Yeah, I mainly bought the DVD to see the documentary. It is feature length (it's really long) and it's about Jonathan. Sometimes it felt like it was dragging, but overall I loved it. There are interviews with Jonathan's friends and family members, the OBC, and other people involved with RENT (producers, NYT reviewer, etc.). It followed the creative process and was a nice tribute to Jonathan.
I think I've just gone blind from sudden carbohydrate overdose.
Yeah, I totally know what you mean, Nic. I feel the same way, and I include myself in that group. If I was someone with HIV or was a poor struggling artist in that era or in any way resembled those characters or their circumstances, I would take total offense to the iPod-carrying, Abercrombie-wearing tween (or, heck, someone our age) who says that Rent is THEM. Because it's not. "No day but today." is the only moral that everyone can probably take with them, and it's sort of pathetic when people try to make it seem like their situation was worse off than it really was before Rent came along.
Aaaand it's spread to the OT board. Is no place sacred?!
I just snapped in a RENT thread....here come the flames
Please point me there, I need to see that!
I feel like the only angry freak right now.

Not as snarky as I wanted to be, but still a lot meaner than I usually am on the boards.
Shows how deeply I want to be liked that I second guess and censor myself even when I'm blowing up.
