Latoya should sing this song and dedicate it to Jennifer:
"Anything for you, though you're not here..."

Who is going to bottom for us tonight? I am really curious if John is going to top George again -- especially to the thumping disco beat of Gloria Estefan.
Remember what Ryan said last week: don't let talent like this slip in your crack or through your crack or whatever the expression is.

What's the number for Latoya?

Diana DeGarmo rocked tonite. In my opinion, she was the ONLY singer who sang well. Latoya was okay, but not up to her usual high standards. Jasmine started off well and got very pitchy. Fantasia was off tonight - she was "sharp" (as opposed to flat) throughout her number. John was boring. -And listening to George was very painful.

My little review of the night:
Jon- wow. He was horrible. He can't sing at all.
George- he was ok. Something about him really annoyed me.
La Toya- she's just amazing. If she's not in the final 2, then there's a problem.
Fantasia- she's was pretty good. It wasn't her best, but it was still good.
Diana- she was really WOW tonight. In the past (except for last week) she's just been ok, but tonight she was really good. I think her dress was interesting- not enough to give it a 0!
Jasmine- it wasn't her best, but still good. She was awesome in the beginning, but then she kind of died towards the end. It was a bit pitchy, but in the end it was good.

I agree with the consensus here! But I think choosing Gloria Estefan music was either dumb, unfair, or smart, depending on the aims of the producers. Estefan's music is very difficult for others to sing. Each of her numbers is almost like a little production number in itself. She's got a stage full of band members, dancers? Backup singers? I don't know. But there's elaborate choreography, costumes, orchestrations, etc. Her songs aren't very melodic, they depend on the whole Latin thing, of which Estefan's the queen. No one tonight was REALLY good. I don't think it's entirely their fault.

I only got to see Fantasia, George and Latoya. What did John sing?

I enjoyed the "Your voice and latin music go together like chocolate ice cream and onions." comment but only because he paid him a compliment first. I think Simon sorta feels sorry for the kid. I know I do. I would want to be off that show asasp if I was him.

Simon is a two-faced freak who uses rudeness under the guise of "honesty." Let's not forget: he was Big Red's biggest fan in the beginning. Randy openly said in the first few rounds that John could not sing, and Simon always disagreed.
The whole night was bad. The best line was Gloria's (to Simon) -- "you're going to have to pay a lot of therapy bills for these kids in the future."
If Big Red is still standing after tonight, something is really messed up.

Once again missed the show. This time I think that may have been a blessing!!
"All I ask of you is one thing: please don't be cynical. I hate cynicism -- it's my least favorite quality and it doesn't lead anywhere. Nobody in life gets exactly what they thought they were going to get. But if you work really hard and you're kind, amazing things will happen."

My favorite sign in the audience last night was "George Huff is Buff." Did I miss something under all those wool sweaters? Or maybe the sign was obscured. Did it really say "George Huff is Buffet"?

i don't think anyone sounds good singing the music of gloria estefan including gloria. john was pathetic. but i can see why people vote for him. he has a sweet quality. i have to say i find this show idiotic and the "controversy" surrounding it, specious. i voted for john s. as many times as i could (and i never vote on this show) just to be contrary.

I don't have the time nor inclination to stand there multiple-voting for a non talent, especially just to be contrary. Why do you do that, since you said the show is idiotic? sounds like it means an awful lot to you.

I think it's great. If I hadn't had three (or four) vodkas, I would have dialed for Big Red, too. It would be a wonderful tribute to 16-year olds everywhere with Broadway or pop star dreams if he were to become the next American Idol.
Think of the road show: Ruben, Gay Clay, Kelly Clarkson, Justin and Big Red.

i did it because i could. don't ask america to vote and then scold them because you don't like the outcome. i don't think anyone on this show has any connection to anything they're singing and just fosters imitations of bad pop singing habits. it's gotten to be a joke w/ my friends and me.

I don't care enough about the outcome. This show is purely mild entertaiment to me in all its silliness. I don't care enough to get involved in the "idiocy", to quote you. But carry on, enjoy.

I am not a fan of reality television, so I don't waste my time with AI but I will say that it's laughable to have the contestants *singing* Gloria Estefan songs. not only is she one of our weakest pop-stars vocally, but she's only ever written two songs, one up-tempo and one ballad. Everything else is a variation on the same two tunes. How many kids are left? There couldn't have been enough material for them to choose from.

I totally agree, as I said in an earlier post. The choice of Estefan songs was ridiculous. Who knows why they did it.

Come on, you know why "they" did it -- that is, why Gloria Estefan showed up as a judge. It's not an honor: it's all about promotion. It's the same reason the Coke logo is displayed on the screen throughout the entire broadcast and why Randy, Paula and Simon are perched behind plastic Coke cups for an hour. The promotion and product placement are getting really insipid. Last night, the kids were filmed inside a Subway sandwich shop "singing" and making sandwiches. Crazy.
On the Idol website, they are polling as to which celebrity you would like to see in the audience. This is yet the latest way to appeal to their demographic so they can charge sponsors more for promotions.
Gloria Estefan was doing what people in our business do best: allowing herself to be used and using the show at the same time.
Her music sucks by the way.
