before you use The Daily Show for your source of news you should listen to the host himself...
JOHN STEWART:" I’m a comedian first. My comedy is informed by an ideological background, there’s no question about that. But the thing that you will never understand … is that Hollywood, yeah, they’re liberal, but that’s not their primary motivating force. I’m not an activist. I am a comedian.”

FindingNamo, I'm glad you seem to be physically unaffected by the bombings. I hope the same is true of your friends and loved ones.
(My grandson and his father were still several blocks away, but en route to the finish line, when the bombs went off. They are fine, but that was still too close for my comfort.)

Jon Stewart isn't a news anchor, but a satirist? Thanks for clarifying. I had NO idea.

The Bill of Rights must have been written by comedians as well.

An interesting think piece:
What if the Tsarnaevs had been the Boston Shooters?
Updated On: 4/27/13 at 09:52 AM
I get irritated by all the "think pieces": They're not really "think" pieces at all, just mental masturbation. What if the Tsarnaevs had used guns and bombs, what if the Tsarnaevs were just douches.
They're just attempts to fit who they are are into a narrative that's more convenient and fits more comfortably with our preconceived notions than what the reality of who they are actually is.
I think the one ghostlight posted tries to do the exact opposite of that.
While I understand his point (at least on a few things) I totally agree with you. Who needs 'em?
What if Hitler could fly like Superman? Think about it.
Well, again, I don't think it's just throwing out random what-ifs.
It addresses, for example, something we've seen on this board: the assertion that they shouldn't be read their Miranda rights. Whereas had they used assault rifles and killed and injured twice as many people, that notion probably wouldn't have occurred to anyone.
It only occured to anyone here, because we learned it didn't HAVE to happen. I know I didn't know there were reasons it was perfectly legal to skip it.
Whereas had they used assault rifles and killed and injured twice as many people, that notion probably wouldn't have occurred to anyone.
But they didn't. They used bombs.
And if they had been more skillful, the bombs would have killed 10 times as many people than assault weapons could have done.
They were intending to kill as many people as possible, not fewer people because they were using bombs instead of assault rifles.
The conjecture is what's irritating, like asking "What if my grandmother had balls?"
I saw on the news this morning that the younger brother was just like any other American kid since he liked to listen to RENT. I expect BWW to make a headline out of that.

I had no idea that link would create so much controversy. I found it an interesting, thoughtful article. It touches on things that actually have occurred or could have occurred.
Comparisons to Hitler and Superman, and PalJoey's grandmother's improbable balls seem unreasonable to me.
"I know I didn't know there were reasons it was perfectly legal to skip [reading their Miranda rights]. "
I did. Did that mean there didn't need to be a thread about it? I don't need (and didn't watch) the 24/7 news cycle about the bombers. Yesterday I happened to be someplace with a television on and they were covering, by aerial view, the transport of the boat that the second suspect hid in. To me, that is a totally pointless waste of time and effort.
An article that encourages thinking about how we approach and think about different kinds of crimes engages and interests me. Sorry if you found it irritating and unnecessary.
