Constant renovation.

If you could have rewrite any flawed musical, which one would you choose and what are some of the changes you would make.
I'm going to have to come back to this one.
Conversely, what musical do you think comes the closest to perfection?
Three:
Sophisticated: A LITTLE NIGHT MUSIC, because it is elegant, witty, intelligent and crowd pleasing.
Comedic: THE PRODUCERS - tacky, obnoxious, offensive and fall on the floor funny.
Traditional: MY FAIR LADY. The perfect marriage of score and book and it holds up beautifully.
Deeeeeeet!
Who's your favorite cyberchild? Just kidding.

If you could take one memory with you, what would it be and why would it be significant?
That day in the third grade when Sister Pilar slapped me and I slapped her right back. It was when I realized there was a difference between being good, and being abused.
If we asked an important person in your life to describe you, what would he or she say? How accurate would it be?
They'd say I was funny. They'd be right.

If you were an ice cream flavor, what would it be?
What book have you read more than any other?
OOh one of the all time great ones!
Congrats Deet!
My question is -- have you ever suffered from broken heart-- not necessarily only in love but perhaps something or someone that you put a huge emotional investment in and how did you mend it-- Or did you?

What would be your perfect day?
Sitting in a darkened theater, ever present Iced Venti Starbucks in hand, notebook and pen in the other, watching the dress rehearsal of one of my plays or musicals.

See above post.

Chubby Hubby.
What book have you read more than any other?
Harriet the Spy.
Have you ever suffered from broken heart-- not necessarily only in love but perhaps something or someone that you put a huge emotional investment in and how did you mend it?
Yes, both in love and in emotional investment.
I got over the broken heart the usual way - I shot the bastard.
Just kidding.
I gave myself time to mourn, then went out and met the love of my life and 14 years later we're still together.
Recently I was passed over at my school for a job that I wanted very much.
Or did you?
I'm still working on that one. My therapist helps. And getting this new job helps too.
DJ, I never said I hate CAT ON A HOT TIN ROOF. It's just one of my least favorites.
I do, however, HATE, HATE, HATE T.M.M.!
Anyone who slapped a nun is tops in my book.
Oh, sorry. I thought I was just too cool to read the above posts.
What’s something that you’ve never done, but have always wanted to try?
Ski.
Get your buttocks to the Great Pacific NW and I'll take you skiing!
Again, I didn't hate any of the shows I listed. (Except for T.M.M.) I answered the question truthfully - I named my least favorite shows. If the question had been what shows have you hated (I'm going to regret this cuz I know that someone's going to ask me) I would most likely have had a slightly different list.
Getting back to Taz's question about how I would fix a flawed musical:
I have two musicals to discuss. The first one is one that I saw last year at La Jolla - the musical version of ZHIVAGO. My answer is both glib and truthful: I would fire the book writer, fire the composer and bring in a team that has mastered the art of turning a sprawling work into a cohesive, thrilling and moving musical: Terence McNallly, Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty.
This next answer is how I personally would approach VICTOR/VICTORIA: I would can the songs that were inserted as "book" or "plot" songs, keeping the musical numbers confined to the cabarets where they can comment on the action of the play rather than feebly try to advance the plot, and I would focus on making the show more intimately focused on the characters and their foibles and less of a BIG SPECTACLE. At its heart, VV is an intimate show about love and it doesn't need the trappings of a traditional musical. IMHO.
"That day in the third grade when Sister Pilar slapped me and I slapped her right back."
You were fabulous in the third grade!!!!
Psh, he's fabulous now.
