Do you live in Colorado? I know that's where she lives now, but NBC kept saying "the two southern-California teenagers"...Is that where she and her family are from?

Yes, I live in Denver. She lives in CO Springs I think. I don't know where she is from.

I think the standings are fair exept for Ando who should be below Nigasu, imo, but the scores were pretty inflated! I am happy that almost everyone had a personal best, but I really think the spread is too much.

I have to say, I do prefer Yu-Na to Mao and Nigasu to Flatt in general, but am glad both Americans skated so well and that Nigasu has been able to fix her cheated landings.

I really cant stand Kostner. She reminds me so much of Maria Butrskaya...all gangly, but at least Maria had a great personality. I have no idea why Kostner is always so highly scored!

I love Julia Sebestyen for coming back for another try! She's been around forever!

I was quite glad Rochette skated so well under so much pressure. It was a beautiful skate and the world is pulling for her. Her dad in the stands broke my heart.

I think Rachel Flatt is Tracy Enid Flick on ice. I want Matthew Broderick to throw a milkshake at her during the long program.

And I couldn't give a flying f*ck in a rolling donut if it's a sympathy vote, that Canadian girl best have a medal around her neck this time Friday morning.

I kinda love the fact that Yu-Na is a little slutty on the ice.

Just to set the record straight. That is not her father. He's a close family friend.

LOL! I don't like her either, not one bit. I am so rooting for Mao Asada!

Another example of sloppiness from NBC!

I love the sluttiness of Kim too! What a vamp!

...but NBC deserves praise for the way they covered Joannie Rochette's performance:

"Tom Hammond was understated in his commentary, as usual. The visuals were nearly perfect: tight shots of Rochette warming-up and the occasional cut to what NBC thought was her grieving father, but was actually another teary-eyed man misidentified by the Canadian team. (So don't blame NBC for that one.)

When Rochette was introduced to a raucous ovation, NBC used a wide shot to show the cheering Canadian crowd and focused in tight as Rochette slapped five with her coach, fighting back tears. All during this, the announcing booth stayed silent, letting the visuals tell the story, a professional move if there ever was one.

The routine was good enough to place Rochette in third place. Given the circumstances, it can only be classified as a great performance.

Immediately after finishing the routine, Rochette broke into tears on the middle of the ice, bending to rest her hands on her knees and skating to a standing ovation at Pacific Coliseum. She savored the cheers.

When Scott Hamilton finally broke NBC's silence, he spoke through tears. There was little talk about the routine itself. That was secondary. Rochette's strength in performing was the story. That she earned a personal best and is currently in third place was only icing on the cake.

It would have been easy for NBC to go with the cheesily narrated, soft-lit puff piece about the relationship between Rochette and her mother. But producers smartly realized that there was no need to manufacture drama in this tale. It had it all. The producers let the story tell itself and it succeeded. The tragedy is still there – it will always be there – but at least, on the third night after her mother's death, Joannie Rochette was able to bring a brief moment of triumph. And we, as American viewers, shared in the moment thanks to some solid work by the National Broadcasting Company."

I have to agree.

Typical Olympic coverage from NBC - let's throw stuff out there and see what sticks.

I like Rachel Flatt, but I didn't particularly care for her short program. Miki Ando got higher marks than she deserved.

It's the first time I have seen the word "slutty" in regards to the ladies competition, but that remark is very appropriate for Kim Yu Na's short program. I liked her outfit though.

For the record, my 'slutty' remark was a total compliment. I mean, if you're going to skate to the music of a film franchise that has as one of its titles 'Octop*ssy', to ignore the inherent sexuality would be ridiculous.

I love me an ice slut.

Please don't. If anyone could come off as gangly and awkward in a Playboy pictoral, it's Butros Butyrskaya.

I LOVED Irina Slutskaya...and Joannie Rochette has been compared to her as she is more athletic than artistic. However, the recent events are going to inspire a more powerful performance from her.
For those of you who watch the Universal Sports "Figure Skating Review/Preview" they were naming top ladies contenders and they mentioned Joannie and Scott Hamilton kinda laughed and said she's not a contender...I bet he feels bad now.

BTW, I think that Kim Yu-Na's layback is ugly due to her free leg. Where was Dick Button to call that one?

(First I typed "gagly", looked at it, and almost left it alone.)

Ach...I hated Irina's skating! I also hated that EVERY competition, Dick Button insisted on repeating that douchey story about pinching her cheeks.

Blarg!
