Richard Burton dying without an oscar - while Mr Moore gets one
The set designers of the Bronston epics not even nominated
Cary Grant & Hitchcock never getting an oscar
Having to give an Honorary oscar to Peter O Toole instead of him winning one

I also am upset with the fact that Cary Grant nor Alfred Hitchcock never won an Oscar.
I wasn't alive then, but I am a huge fan of old films. Thanks for posting this thread. Mr Roxy always has great threads.
Cary Grant should have gotten at least two Oscars (ARSENIC AND OLD LACE and FATHER GOOSE)
Hitchcock should have gotten multiple Oscars as well.

Aresenic and Old Lace was a GREAT and HILARIOUS film. A perfect example of dark humor not being too dirty.
How about his direction of Psycho & North By Northwest ?
And Rebecca (even though I am not a big fan of the movie, his direction is spot on!)

Hitchcock didn't win an oscar for a film, but he did win an honourary oscar, and accepted it in 1968 with the shortest Oscar speech ever, 'Thank You'.
Well, go him! He still should have won a "real" Oscar.
Hitchcock should have gotten an Oscar for Psycho, North by Northwest, Vertigo, AND Rear Window. I didn't look at what movies these would have been up against - but that NONE of the four of those received an award is just wrong.
Barbara Stanwyck should have won for Double Indemnity, at least. I would have preferred to see her win for "BabyFace" but that was too early in her career for them to consider. Unfortunately.
No Oscar at all.
I thought this was about bloopers in Oscar telecasts, the most famous of which has to be the streaker behind David Nevin.
I think Jon Stewart said it best:
"Three 6 Mafia- one; Martin Scorsese- zero."
Or Entertainment Weekly - "Eminem now has more Oscars than Martin Scorcese."
I agree about Cary Grant. What's funny is that Arsenic and Old Lace was his least favorite of his performances (he thought it was too over-the-top), and yet it's regarded as one of his best.
Judy not winning for A Star Is Born, Eminem winning over Kander & Ebb, Three 6 Mafia winning...

Brokeback Mountain not winning BP.
Far from Heaven not winning ANYTHING!
Jimmy Stewart not winning for Mr. Smith.
Honestly, there's too many.
Never nominated: EDWARD G. ROBINSON, MYRNA LOY
Never won: ROZ RUSSELL, BARBARA STANWYCK, CARY GRANT, HITCHCOCK, SCORCESE, JUDY GARLAND [juvenile Oscars do not count], DEBORAH KERR, MONTY CLIFT, RICHARD BURTON
Unfair snubs: Barbra [Yentl], Faye Dunaway [Barfly], Maggie Smith [The Lonely Passion of Judith Hearne], Fred MacMurray [The Apartment, Double Indemnity], honorary Oscars to Bela Lugosi and Boris Karloff
I think I'm the only person alive who detests Double Indemnity, but I digress.
No director win for Scorsese yet?? Come on, Oscar voters! Also, any original song winner that wasn't actually in the film doesn't deserve the award. Popping up during the credits doesn't count, my friends. At least, not to me.
Double Indemnity is one of the greats. It has just been released in a deluxe 2-DVD set and you should watch it again to see how great it is.
The Best Song category is one of the worst categories in all of Oscar history in terms of songs that were not nominated or did not win.
I think Eminem rightfully won. He wrote a fantastic song that made the movie better than it actually was. Sure, us Broadway people would have voted for Kander and Ebb just because they're Kander and Ebb - but "I Move On" isn't even a great song. Decent, yes - but not better than "Loose Yourself" or it's other competition.
imo, honorary awards are just as pointless as honorary degrees. most of the time the are a direct insult to the people who actually did the winning/earning

I don't think honorary Oscars should be dismissed. Take Hitchcock or Altman, for instance. They both made some incredible films and were nominated. It just so happens that the years they were nominated there was one other film that was perceived by the voting members as being a little better. If the films of these directors had been released in another year they may very well have won. So the Academy recognizes this and says in a way you are worthy of this award, even thought it was not won in direct competition. I have a feeling Annette Benning will be one that receives an Honorary Oscar, especially if she keeps making films that are released the same year that a Hillary Swank film is released.
Idina winning NOTHING! I mean, c'mon, her performance in Wicked just screamed OSCAR!
