Hmmm - to me it seemed relatively quick to receive the call (I would imagine to 9/11, who would then transfer it to the police) and within 8 minutes of the call first being received to have someone already on site.

"In other words, After Eight, you want any scapegoat for gun violence except for guns themselves and refuse to listen to anyone else"
That's not true, and I'll thank you not to put words in my mouth, especially untrue ones. I said in his very thread,
"Guns are a big part of the problem, but the problem is not limited to them."
Just being EXPOSED to violence, obscenity, salaciousness, graffiti is harmful to our children, to ALL of us. It degrades our existence, it poisons our lives,
destroys our sense of security and well-being, and especially when it comes to children. But do the filmmakers care, do the critics care, do the manufacturers of video games care, do the graffiti apologists care, do the writers of moronic
sitoms care?
Does anyone care about our kids? Or about anyone else?

Gee, what took you so long?
You're getting to be a little slow on the uptake, there.
I had already given a response in this thread. But I guess that wasn't the response you wanted.

No, that wasn't the response YOU wanted.
It's funny, I think, how you believe yourself a pillar of decency in a corrupted world.

I wouldn't presume to believe that.
I also wouldn't think of posting what you did, thank God.
ywiw, I'm comparing it to NY, I guess!
Your apparent resentment of the age you live in and constant condescension to those who disagree suggests otherwise.
The only difference between you and one of Moliere's characters is that you don't talk in rhyming verse.

Just for the record, many of Moliere's characters were happy with the age in which they lived.
And also, not all his plays were written in verse.
But whether in verse or in prose, whether happy or not, if I could speak the way Moliere wrote, I would consider myself blessed.
"Just the sight of a gun, even if it's unloaded and not aimed at anything, can instill fear
only in those unfamiliar with them"
That really is an ignorant statement.
"That really is an ignorant statement."
And ignorant is being polite. Ridiculous statement.
If you were really against violence, you'd stop saying such awful things about Stephen Sondheim.

Diva & Jane - have either of you handled guns? Fired them, taken them apart and cleaned them, become as familiar with them as you are the internet?
Any human who collects guns should have their mental health examined. No one needs more that one gun to protect their home.
And if you collect things that do nothing but kill, you have serious problems.
"as familiar with them as you are the internet?"
nope
I have. I grew up with them.
And if somebody walked into my office or home, say, with a Glock that I assumed was empty pointed toward the floor, I hope I'd have the good sense to be afraid.

A lot of people are afraid of the "other" they don't know and passing judgement based on the stereotypes pretty much puts you on par with racists.
Based on the sense that they make, Yawper and Abbynormal sound like the same person.
To be clear: By "other," you mean someone who did not grow up with guns and is familiar with them, yes? So if I respond negatively to someone who isn't familiar with guns, I'm a racist. Is that your point?

And a lot of gun enthusiasts never cop to the adrenaline rush they get when they hold a gun, the endorphin release when they fire it. They won't admit the feeling of power that fills them the very first time they shoot a gun and how it makes them want to immediately fire it again. Like every narcotic addict, that chase that first high again and again. They have felt, for a fleeting moment, invincibility. Once many of them have felt that, they never want to be far from their gun ever again.
