I remember being eight, and having to hide my copy of A STREETCAR NAMED DESIRE because my Mother said I was too young to read Tennessee Williams...
Getting permission to stay up past my bed time for movies like "Some Like it Hot", "King Kong" and "Singin' In The Rain."

Telling Michael the Jesus Juice didn't taste as good as the Jesus Blood even though the Blood gave me a nasty headache the next day.
Eating 5 servings of vegtables every night when i was 6 for my first American Girl doll....I want her BADLY
oh, and for some reason I remember this, well, cuz I have a video tape of it but when i was about 4, my family and I went to Disney World and we went to this dinner theatre that was army-themed, it was a circular stage in the very middle of the room with tables surrounding it. At one point, the actors asked all the younger children to come up on stage. My older sister, who was 5 at the time, hid behing my mom- she didnt want to go, but i bounced right up to the stage cuz even at 4 i loved the stage...WELL turns out when i was 4 i had mucho stage fright too, I was placed in the very front because I was the youngest, therefore the shortest, and with everyone looking at me, I started to lift my dress to hide my face, flashing the audience my Barbie underwear.
hehe long story my bad
I was thinking the other day about my first trip to New York, when I was nine.
I like the title of this thread. I remember being 7 years old and inviting all the neighborhood kids over for a "dance" (without getting my parents permission first). At about 7:00 at night they had a patio full of kids dancing to 45s on a portable record player. My parents didn't know what to do with me, but I do remember them getting a kick out of it!!
I remember always getting together with the kids in the neighborhood to put on plays... We wrote and directed and designed them ourselves! We were about 9 or 10 years old. A particular "hit" was the re-enactment of the assassination of Abraham Lincoln. Don't ask me WHY we chose that topic... our parents were a bit concerned.
We served groovy lemonade after every show. And gave everyone jars to catch fireflies in.
Random.
Addy, I know the topic of your play was very serious, but your story gave me the biggest laugh!!!
I also remember when Tina Turner's song "Proud Mary" came out and my sister and next door neighbor were lip synching to it and they wanted me to be "Mary". Well I think they got their wish.

Oh, we were all such playful kids, weren't we?! (and, Dottie...I'm glad that story made you laugh! So much about my childhood was silly and fun!)
I also remember trying to cut down some shrubs in the back of my parents house because our back yard backed up to the sports fields of the Junior High...and my friend and I wanted to watch the boys practice football. Using Dad's saw without his permission was not such a good idea. Neither was trying to reduce their collection of shrubs! (Who knew they were so expensive...?!)
I'm still laughing!!!
Dottie, if you played kickball or other 'street games' when you went to visit your grandparents, there's a good chance I played with you once or twice... We were champions at Red Light/Green Light!
I definitely remember red light/green light, but not so sure about kick ball.
This thread is making me think of so many things, that I can't stop laughing. Thank goodness I'm the only one at work right now.
I usually pretended I had something else to do when kickball or dodgeball was suggested. But I loved Mother May I... And Kick the Can!
Same here addy, also a great Red Rover Red Rover
That was a good game! And various forms of Tag... although I usually tried to pretend that whatever I was standing near was the Base. I was pretty competitive and hated to lose...
(ps - Beav - belated Happy Birthday! I tried to send you a PM on Saturday, but you have it turned off... Cheers!)
Kick the Can!! Absolutely.
We also used to play softball on the street. If you hit the ball over the fence it was a homerun (obviously). But, as we got older we began to hit the house that was behind the fence, so after that, if you hit the ball over the fence, it was considered an out!!!
When I was 4, I think, and my dad woke me up at midnight so I could see the opening of the World Cup in Munich, and during the ceremonies they had these huge footballs that openened and the artists came out and performed. It was awesome.
My friends and I used to put on shows too... but we did them on roller skates!
Maybe a bit Off-Topic, but did anyone see The Twilight Zone episode about kick-the-can?
(It was also in The Twilight Zone Movie)
ahhhh sigh! Anyone else play the rule "First by day. Last by night" in Hide and Seek?

Why do I keep thinking of horrible things? Okay, let's see...
Learning how to swim in Israel- the first stroke you learn is the breast stroke, and I remember my teacher telling me to make Charlie Chaplin feet. I think I was about 4.
ElTico - the original Starlight Express!!
Mary Ethel - didn't see that episode.
Mominator - not familiar with that game.
We used to play hide and seek... all around the neighborhood. Funny how things change... the suburban house I grew up in is now pretty much "inner city", traffic, all the houses have ugly brick walls all the way to the sidewalk for safety, and the kids can't run around anymore. And it was only 30 years ago.
(I grew up in San Jose, Costa Rica, btw)
I remember my best friend and I would play "Dangerous Doggie" whenever she was over. The game consisted entirely of calling my dog Jocko (who was the sweetest dog ever) and running around my parents' room and jumping on their bed shouting "Dangerous Doggie!! Dangerous Doggie!!"
And one time, I don't know why, but we shouted "Hey, you kids! Stop messing with my mailbox!" out the window at nobody.
Yeah, we were a little weird...
The rule "First by day. Last by night>" Washow we decided who would be "it" The first one found (before 6 PM) or the last one found (after 6:00) Saved alot of grief!
