Maybe I'm missing something due to being exhausted. Why was he arrested in Switzerland? He wasn't trying to enter the U.S.
"However yesterday, on Saturday, he was taken into custody while attempting to enter Switzerland due to a request by U.S. authorities in connection with an arrest warrant from 1978."

Why is Switzerland allowed to arrest him for charges in the US, but France isn't? Isn't Switzerland supposed to be neutral? In the past 30 years, why hasn't he researched which countries are "safe" to travel to?

Polanski's citizenship is in France and France won't extradite one of their citizens to another country.
Switzerland is usually neutral when it comes to war. However, they do have extradition agreements with some countries that they will return criminals for trial.
Polanski knows exactly where he can travel and where he can't. Over the last 30 years, he's tried many times to get around the law. He has petitioned the US more than once to allow him to come to the US to receive awards. He has tried to enter Switzerland before, but canceled his trips because he knew the US would arrest him. For some reason, this time he thought he could get around it.
Supposedly, he did.He appeared by video for a court case in London due to concerns re extradition. He's been to Switzerland many time before. Somebody @ Justce Dept obviously got wind of the scheduled award ceremony and decide to take the opportunity.
This haS very little to dow justice now- simply a point of law-
He plead guilty but refused to be sentenced. There are other charges now due to his flight. I expect he will do some time only because when he's returned he will never get bail again.

If he is brought back to the US, expect the freak show to begin. I can bet Sean Penn, Susan Sarandon and one or two others will constantly be on tv defending him and saying how unfair it is that he is in jail.
He has suffered enough
His entire career was disrupted due to this. If Woody Allen gets a pass doing it with his adopted daughter, they should just leave this be. There are more important things now to worry about.
Stop beating a dead horse already.

Oh Goth. I bet you didn't expect Roxy to be on the side of your mythical Penns and Sarandons.

Despite what your fevered brain dreams up, I didn't have any expectation of Roxy or anyone else. I'm not a Democrat after all, I don't sit around all day hoping people on a message board will have the same opinion as me.
His entire career was disrupted due to this.
And whose fault was that? The Justice Department? I hardly think so. Why is he in this mess to begin with?
Question:
Why does Woody Allen get a pass for what is much worse?
because she liked the b-52s and the 714s. sounds like the kind girl for me-ee-ee-ee-ee, mona-mona, carbona mona.
It interrupted his career???
He doesn't get a pass because the girl was 13 years old.

In 2003, Polanski won an Oscar for The Pianist. I wish my career would be interrupted in that manner.
Not only did he drug and rape a minor, he fled the country before sentencing.

You must do yoga, cuz that was an awful big stretch to nowhere.

Funny I was thnking the same thing.
Besides, the 'victim' doesn't even ant him arrested, so what's the point? It's will go to court and she won't go on the stand and say anything against him. She has stated that the whole matter should be dropped.
Someone's just showing off.
So what's the theory here...if someone can afford to flee the country and avoid sentencing for long enough, the matter should be dropped?
What ever happened to defending the interest of children?
The 'child' said she didn't want him proscetuted. Everyone has gotten past it.
Please, go find Osama Bin Laden instead.

"Besides, the 'victim' doesn't even ant him arrested, so what's the point?"
So we should do away with justice because a victim has a case of Stockholm Syndrome? So the answer is if any criminal can get their victim to forgive them, then they should be set free?
Justice in the judicial system? Yeah, right.
The same week his wife's murderer finally goes to Hell after 30 years in jail... a case for the death penalty if ever there were one...
...and then this.
Wasn't DOTV (compared to his TANZ) enough torture?!
Polanski is STILL Wanted & Desired.
Give. It. UP!

He won't get a free pass if he's extradited and brought to trial for this.
It would set an ugly and unimaginable precedent for every 13-year-old who is drugged and raped in this country.
No judge or court would ever throw out this case. And if they bring him to trial, he will be convicted. There is enough evidence already.
