She was 76 years old.
"The legendary actress - Golden Girls and Maude - died at 1 AM this morning.
We're told she suffered a massive stroke.
At the time of her death, McClanahan was surrounded by family and loved ones. "She went in peace," says her manager.
While this news incredibly sad, Rue had been very sick for a while and at least she is no longer in pain."
Our condolences to her family and the world.
We've lost a great one!

RIP.
I will never forget when I lived in North Hollywood, my boyfriend and I were having a Moving Garage Sale...
About half through my sale Miss Rue showed up with a man and bought one of my cookbooks for 50 cents. I was in shock...
She was so sweet...I will never forget her...RIP dear Lady.
RIP, Rue.........loved her on the Golden Girls!
thanks even for poor Aunt Fran
The oldest Golden Girl is the last one alive.
Thank god for syndication and my Golden Girls dvds. Rue will live on forever.
Amen, Erik. There's something about The Golden Girls -- despite the shoulder pads, it seems to somehow be the least dated show ever. They're all still alive, to me.
Anyone wanna take bets that Bea is turning to Estelle and Rue right now and saying, 'Who knew the c*nt would outlive us all.'
RIP Ms. Maclanahan. And thanks for that 'mad scene' with the egg yolks. And the Dr. Jonathan Newman scene. And the fight with Sofia over Fidel. Oh, hell. It was all gold!

^^^That's so true! I've seen every episode at least 20 times and it never gets old. I watch it on WE and Hallmark Channel almost every morining when I'm getting ready, in the afternoons during my naps/chill time, and at night before I sleep.

and how about.."Isn't Danny thomas one?"...RIP dear Rue, thanks for being a friend.
'He cut off his hair...maybe I'll cut off mine!'
'He cut off his ear, Blanche.'
(pause)
'I have too many earrings.'
My bf and I ran into her at Bed, Bath and Beyond one day. He was in the men's room and Miss Holly and I were standing outside.
She and her husband walked by and her husband went in. At first I didn't recognize her, because she had no makeup on and was just in summer-Sunday clothes, but she casually struck up a conversation about Holly and Fox Terriers and how her husband wanted one but she just knew they were trouble. Then she started talking to Holly, who responded to Rue's sweet voice instantly.
She never introduced herself and I never said "Ohmygodyou'reRueMcClanahan" but I knew she knew I knew who she was, and we just had a nice chat.
My bf came out of the men's room and saw who was talking to our dog and his eyes opened wide, but he too stayed cool. Then we all chatted about big dogs vs. little dogs until her husband came out of the men's room and we went our separate ways.
He turned to me and said, "Do you KNOW who you were just talking to?"
As if anyone wouldn't.
If you know her only from the Golden Girls, order the Maude DVDs from Netflix.
She was a treasure.

I always liked the episode where Blanche is delirious from staying up all night. She comes into the kitchen and picks up a ziploc bag of egg yolks and says something like "Little balls of sunshine."
"I see London, I see France...I see Blanche's underpa..."
Her mad novelist scene in the kitchen and her "I Want to Be Loved" number are my favorite Blanche moments.
RIP
My heart may ache for now but the hearty belly aches you and the girls have provided over the years will always bring a smile to my face.
RIP. So sad and so shocking!

I am VERY sad today.
Getting on line today was like getting punched in the gut.
She and I had some good laughs.
I am so sad but my ribs are hurting after watching this.

Goth, I think that was the 'Sick and tired...' episode, which was hysterical and basically my whole state of mind this last week doing final papers for school.

RIP
I can't help but think of the episode when they make a pact that if one of them were to get sick or infirmed the other three would be there for her. Then Rose asks, "What happens when there's only one of us left?" And she is.
RIP Rue
