Why are you guys being so mean to him? It's not like David Hyde Pierce came out during his Frasier days? Nathan Lane was also in the closet for awhile if I remember correctly?
It seems everyone feels more comfortable to come out on Broadway, because they know it won't affect their careers at all. e.g. Cheyenne Jackson or Gavin Creel.
He is not the nicest person Muscle. Even though how most of these people here would know that.. I don't know. I met him once in a benefit and once in Golds Gym. He has arrogance and comes off as very self centered and in general has a bad vibe. You think it is a mistake he doesn't seem to be able to land another tv job? I did enjoy him on the tv show. But there are other people whos talent I would rather support.
Dame, I believe you, and it is horrible when performers are self centered and not "so nice" in person.
That happened to me with his co star, Miss Cuntuweth. LOL!
I bet a lot of these feelings have to do with his most famous character "Jack"...perhaps if he had played another role or something it might be different. Just a guess...

I worked on W&G regularlly, and he was nothing but nice o the set. I wouldn't know about else where.
David Hyde Pierce isn't the one saying that he's already done enough for the gay community. David wasn't dodging questions about his own sexuality either.
W&G made a big deal out of the fact that the guy playing the lead was straight. Which was sorty of a slap in the face to gay actors.
Sean COULD have made a difference by speaking up for himself. He didn't.
I've never said anything about him as a person. except for what I posted above. He WAS a nice gut to work with.
I just find it bothersome that he said nothing at the time, and now he's saying that he did contribute to the movement by simply playing the part of Jack.
Diva,
Are the residual checks decent?
Well there is some truth to that...people like my dad's GF, a 40-something (at the time) small-minded, boarder-line racist (the phrase "**** n* babies" comes out of her mouth all the time) woman suddenly wanted to go shopping and hang out with people like him and Ellen's Sidekick DJ-person Tony.
Who cares if he's gay or straight? What difference does it make? He's still the same person.

Exactly. And I think if he were a more secure person and actually truly believed what he was saying with all sincerity, he wouldn't come across as defensive as he does in that interview.
It's also a little hard to take when a guy like Sean Hayes complains about being pigeonholed in the entertainment industry and then says things like, "It’s not about Hayley Mills. Why do all the gays ask that?"
I dunno, Sean. Because most of us have senses of humor?
But...if 'Will and Grace' is a "factory job", can we all be so lucky?!?
And I'm not sure if they were trying to say that "Piece's of April" was a non-gay role or something...but I always that the character was gay...Didn't he carry around a lap dog or cat throughout his scenes?

I know right? If I have had a sitcom job like that for so many years, I could live my entire life w/o working ever again.
Anyways, I found some of his jokes kinda funny! LOL

I agree with that, though.

The fact is though, when so may people on these boards were going on and on about how awesome and amazing Will and Grace was and how devastated they were when it finally went off the air with one of the worst series finales in TV history, I was one of the few people who called the show for the crapfest it was. It LOOKS like it was created by people who were just punching the clock.
I think if a show has actors who are invested in their work, it ends up being better. Take Modern Family as one spectacular example.
But W&G was merely product.
Modern Family has had just one full season, and honestly, I find that show disgusting. It made me realize that families in general are annoying(not only straight ones). The only "original" thing would be a gay couple and a couple composed of a latina and a guy who could be her grandfather(gross).
At least Will & Grace was not so typical, I am not a fan of W&G either, but it's a lot better than Modern Family. I do agree that it got to be a joke with all the celebrity guests towards the end of the sitcom.

On that I will have to respectfully disagree and then step outside to scream at the top of my lungs.
It's interesting that he states how unfulfilling the work on W & G came to be yet he chooses to play every part like Jack MacFarland. It's pretty clear why he's not working more-he has no humility. Ten years on a hit sitcom went to his head. He should watch The Comeback for glimpse into his future.

Or talk to Matt LeBlanc - if he can find him.
W&G wishes it could have the humor and heart that MODERN FAMILY has.

Yes, nealb1, we get it. Coming out means nothing. We should just let the world assume everyone is straight. Visibility means nothing. If only we could go back to the days when confirmed bachelors just did their thing and didn't disgust everyone with what they did in the bedroom.
I really don't know what to make of this interview. It's really .... defensive? Bitchy? Nealb1-like? I dunno.
Maybe it's the way it's written (I'm not sure about the whole gay people eating chicken thing) but he just comes off as someone who has an truly out of which idea about his impact on the world. All I really remember about Jack was that he ways always calling Will fat.
And muscle, you've said that two of the three couples are "original" on Modern Family, so I don't get your beef. Also, some men and women like older partners and think that dim-witted muscle twinks are the ones that are gross. Shrug.
At least the people on Modern Family really seem to care about one another, whereas on Will and Grace it was just four people being goddamn nasty to each other year after year.

You had this revelation while watching a sitcom?
How could you not like this woman? I'm a BFH and I'd switch for her in a heartbeat!
Let me add this:
Will - insecure, upper-class, white man who can't find a date.
Grace - Fag hag from hell, who can't find happiness outside of Will
Karen - Pill popping, boozehound who treats everyone else like ****
Jack - Flamboyantly gay, sweater wearing nelly bottom who sluts his way around NYC
Why did we watch this show year after year?
Looks like she came out too.

Remember in the first episode of Will and Grace, and she asked Will if her breasts or whatever really did nothing for him? They were like, what, thirty at that point?
