I'm really excited too. Let me say, when I was watching the beginning of the broadcast, and they were talking about start values, Shawn did have a one tenth of a point advantage. However, those are only part of the score, and it also proves that it is difficult to say which one is the better gymnast. I'm really excited that both of them did so well though. And I'm glad that China finally came in 3rd behind them. :)

I am embarassed how emotional I just got, I was so happy for Nastia. Its almost like the understudy going on and winning the tony. I love the underdog.

I also loved that they showed Sevtlana (oh how I miss her).

no cubanpab, each event (i.e. bars, beam etc.) has its own final in which medals are awarded

That was awesome I am so happy for both girls. It's funny because Nastia has not come out on top in the AA since Shawn launched out of Juniors - and she has to feel pretty good because she really rocked the floor she stayed in bounds she threw the twist into the middle pass -- she executed beautifully and got the best score she's had on the floor so far..she has not one thing to be ashamed of...Nastia just purely rocked tonight!
Yay for both Nastia and Shawn!

Seems I am the only person commenting, but the women's indoor volleyball match between the US and China was amazing this morning. The president of China was there and everything. The game stretched to 5 sets and was back and forth the whole time.

Back in the stone-age, I remember watching a feature on the Chinese women's vollyball team. There was footage of one of the players diving for a ball, but hitting it out-of-bounds. The coach proceeded to start throwing balls very hard and fast at her head until she got to her feet - the whole time screaming about what a disgrace she was (at least according to the interpreter.) It scared the CRAP out of me, and I haven't been able to watch them play since then.

" It's funny because Nastia has not come out on top in the AA since Shawn launched out of Juniors"

That's actually not true. Nastia beat Shawn at the American Cup held earlier this year at MSG -- I would know, I was there. And ever since then, I've always been a bigger fan of Nastia then Shawn. Nastia just did such beautiful things on the balance beam, but Shawn's score was higher, and I didn't understand it. I think articles about the event is summing it up great -- Shawn, though for once she wasn't perfect last night -- is probably usually better on accuracy, but Nastia is better on pure artistry, and that's why I like her more. Plus, with Shawn winning every event of the last 2 years EXCEPT the American Cup it's a nice underdog victory for Nastia.

But also, as Nastia is older, Shawn will probably be yearning for that AA Olympic Gold and will probably be back in 4 years, whereas Nastia probably wouldn't even if she took silver. So that will be a help to our team in 4 years. By that time, I'm sure I'll be whole-heartedly rooting for Shawn to take the gold.

And I love how they're truly friends, and were both happy for each other, despite being competitive. The TV showed Nastia saying "come on Shawn" as she started her floor routine, it's just really nice to see.

This is one women's gold medal that won't have any controversy concerning it.
