I don't know what happened to the old thread, but it got pretty active there for a while. I think it's time to resurrect the DC portion of it -
The next big theatre event in DC will be Arena Stage's "Cabaret". Their mega-hit last season was "Damn Yankees" and this season they've brought back the stars of that show, Brad Oscar and Meg Gillentine, to headline "Cabaret". It'll be here from September 8 - October 29, 2006.
"Damn Yankees" was a sell-out hit and there's no reason to think "Cabaret" will be any different. Grab your tickets here!

Mamie do I count as a member of this crowd or do I have to wait til I move after graduation?
Don't be so silly. You've always been a member of this group!
Heh, Mamie, I just got the Arena pamphlet the other day, and the first thing I said was "Oooh! Cabaret!"

We're taking the Performing Arts classes down on October 4 for a workshop and performance. Can't wait!
Drat! I wish I was going to be in DC in October. What's their Holiday show?
Who, Arena? I think it's some new thing about the Civil War.
Yeah... Arena.
My sister might get us tickets to see Piazza.
Just making sure! Its so exciting, but scary to think that I will be leaving here in about 9 months. We are already pricing moving companies so that we can budget everything out for the move.
Kel- I didn't know you were moving to DC! Wunderbar!
Actually, The Civil War Christmas has been postponed, so the show playing during Christmas will be 'She Loves Me'.
Can't wait to see 'Cabaret.' Damn Yankees was damn terrific and I am looking forward to seeing Brad Oscar and Meg G. again.
Harpo!!!
I would love to see "Cabaret" and Ms. Gillete and Mr. Oscar again. They were sure fun in "Damn Yankees."

I am an occasional DC person, I have not been to a show there in years!

So A Civil War Christmas isn't going to be at Christmas time? That makes sense right there.
I'm not from DC, but my family is and I spend most of my vacation time up there. Half of a DC'er, does that count?
DD -
Arena's doing "Noises Off" from 12/15 - 1/28.
National Theatre - "Movin' Out" from 12/5 - 12/23
Kennedy Center - "The Light in the Piazza" - 12/19 - 1/7
Warner Theatre - "The Nutcracker"
Ford's Theatre - "A Christmas Carol"
Sadly most of the theatres will be dark or just holding holida specials (like those last two). Signature's got "My Fair Lady" from 9/26 - 11/19. Then they're dark until "Into the Woods" from 1/12 - 2/25. (How long are you planning on staying?)
DD!!!
Will you be back at Christmas?? Wasn't Damn Yankees so much fun?
I don't have the brochure anymore, but I think it mentioned that Civil War Christmas was being postponed so that it could spend more time in development, or something like that. So maybe next Christmas...

Well, DD there ARE other ways to have fun in DC at Christmas time........as we recall.
HARPO! I haven't seen you on here in ages! *hugs* Yeah, its not official, but it is pretty darn likely. I am a little nervous about the move because I ahve lived here all my life, but it makes it a lot easier knowing I am moving closer to my BWW buddies!
And "She Loves Me" will play Nov 17ish to Dec 31 at Arena
There is also a VERY FUNNY show at the Roundhouse Theatre each year called "A Broadway Christmas Carol." They tell the Scrooge story while spoofing Broadway shows. (Think "Forbidden Broadway Does Dickens.") It's a new production every year.
Let's get some dates together for some of these shows. I'm definitely in!
Yeah, KelRel - it will be great to have you in the area!!
And I would love to see the Roundhouse show, sounds absolutely wonderful, and a great idea for a BWW outing.
edit: oops roundhouse, not roundabout

Harpo, HI THERE!!!
I always call the Roundhouse "Roundabout"! I even did it once when I was testifying during budget hearings (which means it was broadcast AND preserved on tape. How embarrassing is that! Now I know how George Bush must feel all the time .) You can take the girl out of New York City, but....
I look forward to the next time I get to see you. The DRS show was too brief and too long ago!
Welcome back Miss Pennywise!!! I am so glad we had the chance to meet at DRS - it does seem so long ago. Looking forward to seeing you again, hopefully soon.
And as long as you don't say that you are "the decider" you will never be as bad as our Confused-in-Chief.
Thanks for that reassurance, Harpo. It's frightening to think I have ANYTHING in common with "him"!!!
Let's not wait too long to get together. I don't want to wait until Christmas!!!
We can meet "half-way," okay?
Oh, and Baddy might be coming from Michigan at Christmastime to see She Loves Me because she knows someone who may be starring in it!!!! Sounds like reunion time to me!!!
I got a subscription for Arena Stage and Studio Theatre this season and am really excited about most of the shows- "Cabaret" and "Nine Parts of Desire" especially.
DC has a lot of great theatre coming this season. Makes me not feel so bad I live here instead of NY or Chicago.
This week I am off to see "In the Continuum"- as an Africa geek, I am really looking forward to this.
