I have so many beanie babies. My sisters have so many as well. Currently they are in containers under my bed. Those were some crazy times.

This is making me feel nostalgic for the days when people got up at 5:00 in the morning to line up to get Beanie Babies, or when we used to search the internet for rumors of what they were coming out with next, and going to Beanie Baby shows and seeing all the ones that I wanted, but we could never afford. Like the Royal Blue Peanut (worth $5000). We were obsessed.

Heh, cool, Fantab. I was just playing. My mom actually used to put some of the cooler Absolut ads on the fridge.
I own like...3 Beanie Babies.

Heh, Katt. I wanted Humphrey the camel ($600ish, if I remember correctly), but I remember how the dark blue elephant was like... the ultimate Beanie. Heh.
Mandi, good for you! Whee, your avatar.
My connection to beanie babies is hearing about some of my friends looking for them for their kids. To tell you the truth, I got the feeling that they were kind of into the whole thing themselves.
I never really understood the *value* of Beanie Babies... I just wanted them because they were cute, and everyone else had them. I was fairly oblivious (but totally adorable) as a child.
Crap. My post is in limbo.
I didn't have any Beany Babies. My sister kept wanting to get into them, but my parents knew they were a fad and wouldn't buy them for her. I think the only one they did get was the Princess one for her birthday.

I wanted Humphrey SO BAD. He actually was worth more than 600 I think. I wanted him, Flutter, and Rex the tye-dyed dinosaur. And then of course there were the REALLY rare ones, like Spot without a spot, or Quackers without wings. I still have a folder full of Beanie information, rumors on what was coming out next...etc. I was so careful with mine. I put tag protectors on all of them, and rarely played with them so that they wouldn't get messed up.
Quackers has my birthday. I have two, because one of my is deformed, but the deformed one is WAY cuter.
It's a really good lesson in how markets work and the law of supply and demand.

Em, if the deformed one is one without wings, then you have very valuable Beanie Baby. Most people are done with Beanie Babies, but I'm sure some people still pay a lot of money for rare ones.
Squealer has my birthday. I always laughed about the fact that a pig had my birthday.
And Skittles, what's sad, is that I have two Princesses. One has PE pellets, and one has PVC pellets. I think the one with PVC pellets was worth more.

Katt, I was anal with the tag protectors as well. I also bought Mary Beth's Beanie World Magazine (or something like that). It's very likely Humphrey was worth more than that. $600 popped into my head for some reason, but I'm probably wrong.
Chloe, I was JUST going to say that. I have to be the only person who found AP Economics extremely interesting. I'd likely consider that as my major if it didn't require so much calculus-based work in the higher levels.
Do you remember those Ty signs all the stories used to hang up to let people know they sold Beanie Babies? You knew it was bad when the 7-11 started hanging them up in the window.
I had an original Seymour the Seal...and I tore off his tag. I was about seven at the time, I guess. When I hit 8, I found out that it could have been valuable and was depressed for the next 3 years until the fad was over.
Nope, he has wings. His eyes are just more narrow-ly set, and his eyebrows are horizontal, rather than vertically slanted. He's precious.
I have the special elephant with the flag on it's butt. They had the elephant and the donkey. It's probably worth quite a lot now.

Yeah, it was Mary Beth's Beanie world. I got that magazine, heh.
I played with my first two beanie babies and messed them up/got them dirty (I was six or seven at the time). Then I realized quickly the value of keeping them nice and neat, so I threw those away, bought two more in their place, and rarely moved them off of my shelf again.
I LOVE Seymour. He's my favorite.
I actually still get emails from Ty announcing new beanie babies because I never bothered to unsucribe. They never should have "ended" it at the millenium and then come back. Doing that just destroyed the fad. Then they got ridiculous with coming out with some and retiring it after 3 months, and it was just too hard to keep up with anymore.
Fantab, you had Righty. Righty and Lefty were the political Donkey and Horse. I don't know how much they are worth. They were hard to find at first. Then they came out with new versions of Righty and Lefty which weren't as cute.

Lexi, Cary even said to check my funds. If only I had listened. Oh well, I get tax refunds in April.

Katt, I had the two versions of Princess as well.
Look, Katt, you could finally fulfill your dream of having both the dark blue elephant and Humphrey! Only $7 right now!
For Katt

Runner is my absolute favorite. (Not to say I don't love my other ones, but he always has a special place close to my heart.)

Silly Lexi, those are Beanie BUDDIES. And I already have them. :P

Aw, Beanie Babies...I had a brief Beanie Baby love...
I also had a few of the originals, and at the time, the tag was just in the way (and didn't mean anything), thus I tore them off. 3 months later, I was kicking myself for that lapse in decision making.
I'm off to my choir concert...after eating way too much spaghetti with mozzerella meatballs...good thing we don't sing for a while!
