IHT, (sorry skimmed and didn't catch all of your reply), okay thought I talked to you more than the other girl, so was thinking that was you. You're pretty The *Official* Greg Jbara Love Thread And it's always great hearing such enthusiasm about DRS, esp. from your Dad The *Official* Greg Jbara Love Thread

Kerrie, yeah I think it was, at least vocally. Again, I just figured she was gonna leave anyway and between her health issues and the fact that ALW scores are amazing but I imagine could be hard to sing night after night, she was one perhaps more than anyone, except for Michael actually being in it, that I really thought that I'm glad I was able to see her that night, she was just amazing, her "All For Laura" that night gave me chills.

IHT, you can call me Mary. :)

I've been doing crazy things all week and I just want to stay home and watch tv and sleep for tomorrow.

I wouldn't be suprised if I fell asleep during the show, or at least the boring songs. Hopefully there won't be any.

I never cared much for ALW as I have never been interested in his type of musicals. However, I do plan to perhaps see the Phantom of Opera DVD tonight and Amanda...I mean her avatar's Phantom. Is the movie a good representation of the musical? My mother saw the musical about year ago and did not care for it at all. No one I know wants to see it either so I am still a Phantom newbie...

Well, it depends. OF COURSE I'm gonna say the movie is awesome, but it is one of those "what movies do you like that everyone/lots of other people hate" movies for me. I mean, I doubt you'll appreciate the extreme sexiness of Gerry, which is perhaps the best part of an awesome movie...in terms of representing, it stays very very close to the show, so if that's what you were asking...

Also, the art direction, cinematography and costumes are all wonderfully done...politics stole away the first 2 oscars from it which it deserved.

And like I said, there's been lots of different takes on the actors. Most people I can get to at least admit that Gerry was a great actor, but those who disliked him just didn't like the singing. I happen to like it, I think considering he never sang professionally before, and his natural voice is just beautiful and makes me swoon, and I loved some of the power in the last couple of reprises. I mean, you like David Ayers...so I don't know if I'll talk to you again if you tell me he sings better...

Otherwise, he just captured and embodied the whole character which has many layers and like I never cried during the show but I cried during the movie, he just did a really good job.

Emmy Rossum got pretty mixed reviews also...some people think she did a great job for her age, others couldn't stand her singing and couldn't buy her as winning everyone over with that voice. Patrick Wilson...was good...I just hate his character, I suppose he did the most he could with it.

And I mean there are lots of faults...some of the lip synching is horrendous, the staging of Masquerade made no sense, but I don't care, I love it!

Oh and even if you love the movie, and esp. so, it's not the same on stage, where I'm not ashamed to admit I do enjoy spectacle, and even the chandelier aside which moves kinda slow, the way they create the river w/ smoke and candles rise from the ground and stuff...it is really cool. It all was just amazing when I scored a ticket in the front row.

I still haven't seen Cats. I keep looking for an excuse to see it, but then everyone starts telling me how I'll be wasting money and I don't go through with it.

Oh and one more ALW note, I love the score to "Joseph" but at least the DVD of it seemed to be...higher...than the pink elephants scene in Dumbo, twas weird. But no matter what I love his music...even Memory and Mr. Mistofflees from Cats(the only ones I know)

Hehe I am never going to get that comment lived down am I? Anyway, I have a better musical ear than a singing ear. I am extremely forgiving of singers. As long as they are in tune and keep me interested, I am happy. I am sure Gerry and Emily will be fine.

No it's not so much the comment as it is like if you think he's a good singer, and then you say someone else who is a little better, maybe not fantastic, then that's what you wouldn't live down.

And what's really the difference in music and singing when it comes to the ear? If we're referring to the ear, we're referring to tonality, and a note is a note and a pitch is a pitch whether it's coming from an instrument or a voice. At the...Symphony Space thingie dealing w/ musical and classical music I went to, there was a song where a cello played w/ a soprano, who didn't even use words just "ahhed"--her voice was the harmonizing instrument w/ the cello. It was just gorgeous--that's what singing's all about.

oh BTW IHT, again w/ the skimming...no your dad seemed fine...granted I'm far what anyone would call from normal, so don't know that I'm the best judge, but I asked you guys how you liked the show and you and esp. him just said you loved it w/ such enthusiasm, and like seeming love for the show, so that's what made me happy. No worries on the weirdness The *Official* Greg Jbara Love Thread

Point taken Amanda. But hey, everyone is entitled to their opinion. I like David Ayers. So do a lot of a lot of Wicked fans. Just our opinions.

But I do disagree that there is not a difference btwn a
musical and singing ear. I grew up on a healthy diet of orchestrated music. I love thematic music but was never a fan of singers. I was tone deaf for a very long time alas. I admit it. However, I never missed notes or instrumental changes in my constant listenings of pure music. It was only when I really started to get into Broadway did I realy work on developing an ear for singers' tones and ranges. You certainly are lucky to have developed them at the same time. I am playing catch up.

Aww, thanks Meghan, you're a sweetie, Greg will love you!

Ryan, maybe it's...there isn't a difference in the actual notes but maybe it's harder to distinguish the differences in sounds?

Look believe it or not, I'm absolutely thrilled that you disagree w/ me...I think I'm too ambiguous sometimes, I can be very passionate about things and get uptight about certain things, and I will vehemently argue for my opinion, but at heart I don't want everyone just agreeing w/ me...my ego would get too big...it's not exactly so small as it is...see Ali, I told you my biggest flaw is my extreme modesty...plus I pride my uniqueness and individuality....I honestly would rather be disliked than to be seen as anything less than one-of-a-kind. I sometimes feel bad, I once had this friend who was the sweetest girl ever, but sometimes I started feeling like she tried a little too hard to be me...and then at times things would come out of her mouth that made me think sometimes she thought she was me, like saying that Buffy was a great TV show when she never watched one episode. It was kinda freaky, and b/c being unique is so important to me, it became very frustrating for me to deal with.

hello all. I'm sort of sick. I had a performance today (I do props for it). But I had 2 classes today and lunch in the Green Room with all the theatre people. Then I worked with the director of the show and stuff for the theatre (we did the show cabaret style with sparking cider and pretzels and tables around and everything. it was awesome). about an hour before call for all tech and actors were to be there, the director asked me to go get paint in her car. now, she is a senior and I am a freshman. so, I took her car and went to get paint and found out that it takes 4 hours to dry before we can touch it. I had to get it though, so i did and we painted and dried it with a fan. it worked. but i felt like **** after that. but the performance went well, and cast party tomorrow night after the last performance. hahaha. let's just say, I'll feel better cause I won't feel it anymore. lol. if that makes sense. cause I am sick now. so I don;t know if I am making sense.

and I got the hiccups at least 7 times today. not fun.

i don;t like ALW either. except maybe Evita.

Hello fellow Greg fans. It looks like there's a lot of new people here! That's wonderful. I may not post much, but i do look in to see how everyone is.

Dre - it sounds like you were inhaling an awful lot of paint fumes. That's not good at all. If you're not feeling a lot better tomorrow, you should try to see a doctor. Whenever I had my office painted (way back when) I always gave everybody there the afternoon off. I knew breathing the fumes was very dangerous and I didn't want to make anyone sick. (I also didn't want any lawsuits! LOL)

I'm looking forward to the cam tomorrow. Actually I'm always looking forward to seeing Greg again! I may not post here, but I will be watching.

Everybody have a good night. Say a little prayer that we don't get too much snow tomorrow!
