Oh my god; i disagree with you so strongly. I liked johny in it; but please. It doesn't even begin to touch the depth of jamie fox performance. I guess we will find out soon enough.
Hehe. Well, differences make the world go 'round. But you mark me, in a competition where body of work is often rewarded over an individual performance, it's still Johnny's time. And I have OFTEN been impressed by Jamie Foxx (what was that football movie? By Oliver Stone...with Cameron Diaz and Al Pacino? Jamie was completely amazing in that; surprisingly so given his past).
**EDIT**
Thank you, Elphie. Yes, Any Given Sunday. He surprised me only knowing him from his sketch comedy work.

Leonardo Caprio for Aviator or Jamie Fox for Ray. But if I had to bet, I'd put my money on Leo.
"Well; let me clarify; my husband gets to vote. But it is my vote. he has been a member of the academy for about 6 years now."
Dame. How interesting that your husband is an actor. Anyone we would know?
"Curtain - you don't have to be an actor to belong to the Academy."
True Beav. But you do have to be an actor to vote in the acting categories. That's how the Academy's voting process works. Actors vote for Actors. Writers vote for Writers. Directors vote for Directors. Etc. And everyone votes for Best Picture.
But first you have to go thru the nominations darling.
Dame... I thought we were talking about who was going to win, not what five actors would be nominated. So your vote for Jamie Fox would only help insure a nomination. I think it's a given that he'll be nominated.
it should go to either denzel or johnny!

I don't think it will happen, nor should it probably - but should Tom Hanks be in consideration for THE TERMINAL?

I sure hope not. Even if he is considered, I doubt he'll be nominated.
Gael Garcia Bernal, anyone? Is he eligible?
I've seen most of the performances listed, and I would say HANDS DOWN, Johnny Depp. Brilliantly subtle. Jamie Foxx? BLAH - terribly overrated.
Jim Carrey (Eternal Sunshine)
Don Cheadle (Hotel Rwanda)
Johnny Depp (Finding Neverland)
Leonardo DiCaprio (The Aviator)
Jamie Foxx (Ray)
Liam Neeson (Kinsey)
Denzel Washington (Man on Fire)... isn't this a really old movie? I thought it was.
I think that Johnny Depp should win, and I hope that he does. And no... Tom Hanks should not be considered for the Terminal, that was not a good movie.

If he's not, he should be. His perfomance in Bad Education was brilliant! And talk about YUMMY!!!
Am I the only one who has problem taking DeCaprio seriously as a believable adult? He just always seems to be playing dress up.
Same here! I can't believe he's actually 30 years old.
I can't believe he gets the roles he does. Just a teeny bopper in a tux.

Nah, I give him more credit than that. I think in a lot of ways Titanic really screwed up his career rather than helping it.
Me too. Even he admits that, to a degree.
I can understand how you feel about Decaprio, but I have to say his performance in The Aviator is suberb! I think he's going to surprise a lot of people. And I think the Academy will want to recognize him, after not even nominating him for Titanic. Didn't even the iceberg get a nomination?

I thought that it was only during the nomination process where actors can only vote for actors, and writers vote for writers, etc.
I thought when it was voting time, everyone is allowed to vote in every category, except for Foreign Film.
All Academy members can vote for nominations. But only Actors can vote for Actors, Directors for Directors, etc., when it comes to voting for the winner. In the film categories (Best Picture, Best Animated Picture, Best Documentary) all Academy members can vote. But in the Animated and Live Short Film categories, only those members who have attended special screenings can vote.

Actually according to this site:
http://www.oscars.org/academyawards/voting01.html
Up to five nominations are made in most categories, with balloting for these nominations restricted to members of the Academy branch concerned; directors, for instance, are the only nominators for Achievement in Directing. Nominations for awards in the foreign language category are made by a large committee of members drawn from all branches. Best Picture nominations and final winners in most categories are determined by vote of the entire membership.
Well... I guess you're right then Terifa. I stand corrected. I could have sworn that it was the other way around.
I vote for George W. Bush in F9/11!!!!
Seriously, I think Jamie Fox has this. Maybe Depp could win. It's been a very strong year for leading actors.
