Anyone else see this yet?
Oy. The first film made me scream and actually throw my popcorn in the air but this one had my best friend and I laughing and wishing we would have gone to see THE PACIFIER.
Really?? I'm so disappointed. I was hoping it'd be as freaky as the first.
Not at all. The real problem was that the director thought we'd be just as scared at the exact same things as we were with the first film, even to the point where the shots were set up exactly the same. But when we know what's coming how scared can we be?

I agree Matt. When someone thinks they can just keep doing the same stuff over and over and think that people will react differently they are deluding themselves. A complete waste of time. It's a case of knowing when to quit while you're ahead.
I had a good time, that's not saying that the movie was good though. Honestly there were quite a few laughs, but I still got creeped out. There were more things that would just pop out randomly to try to freak you out. I did like the plot though. And that little boy is just plain creepy himself. Him and Dakota Fanning win for creepiest kids of the year.
I'm seeing this today. I thought the first one was very well-made and one of the best of 2002. And if this one is even close to the quality of the American original, I will be happy.
Those deer looked like they had been animated by Disney. They didn't even TRY to make them look real.
I saw the first and thought, hey, how bad can it be? It's only stupid Hollywood makeup. I saw it and it was one of the freakiest movies I had ever seen. I don't think I will be back to see the second.
I think the only funny thing about the first movie was the horse going crazy and jumping off the ship.
What is this "Rings" all about that comes in the special pack with the first movie? What's the story?
From what I've heard, "Rings" is about how the tape gets around a high school leading up to the kid who has it at the start of the second movie. I think it shows what happened to the tape Aiden made.

Just got back from seeing it, and was pleasantly surprised. I thought it was just as scary as the soon-to-be-a-classic original, but in a different way. While the first film used cinematography and pace to heighten the sense of foreboding, the second one actually showed some really creepy stuff.
Props must go to Naomi Watts, for always being grounded and emotionally available as an actress. Even in "Mulholland Drive", she used her talent to bring gravity to even the oddest of set-ups. David Dorfman, in what is essentially a dual performance, was extremely creepy. Sissy Spacek was great in a memorable cameo.
I thought the deer scene was very frightening, as were many other sequences. I also liked how "The Ring Two" deepened the relationship between Rachel and Aiden. I thought it was kind of sad to see Rachel laying her son out in the bathtub.
While it did have its slow spots and plot holes (very few films DON'T have them), I thought "The Ring Two" was a very good horror movie.

I live in a small town for school and the theater was packed when I saw this movie. People were talking throughout the whole movie. My friend and I were basically laughing the whole time. We knew it was gonna be a great nite from the amount of previews we saw. I totally called Amityville Horror-and it was one of them. THis movie is not worth the money you spend to go to the movies. It wasn't scary one bit. Every "scary" movie that has been out in the past 2 years have been terrible and not scary at all. and the Ring 2 is definetly not an exception. They should stop remaking Japanese horror flicks.
Tom Cruise bought the rights to a scary Japanese flick called THE EYE. That one scared me more than any other movie I had seen in a while so hopefully the American remake will be half as scary.

Perhaps you'd like to explain why I am a "snide little twerp". Because I think that sequels should be better or not bother being made?
i haven't got to see this movie yet but i loved the first one and can't wait to see the ring two.
Has anyone seen the original japanese movies? How do they compare?
i seen the original japanese...alot of people seem to think the japanese one is better and more scary but i didn't find it to be. it lacked the scary atmosphere that the american version had and the american had better acting. you also feel more for the american version characters. the japanese one lacks character development and doesn't go into samara's story as well. alot of people that were fans of the original didn't like that tho..they felt the american version answered to many question about samara which the japanese one leaves more unexplained.

I have to disagree with you. There were several good horror movies from 2003-2004 (note that I, personally, am a fan of these movies:
28 Days Later
May
Identity
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre
Dawn of the Dead
Wrong Turn
The Grudge
MAY was such a great little movie. I wish more people had seen this one.
Likewise. Where has Angela Bettis been? She's so talented.
Checked out the Unrated DVD today, and was shocked by how different the movie is. The movie has been drastically re-edited, with 20 minutes of added scenes, and the changes really elevate the movie. The unrated version is quieter, more eerie, and more richly textured. It looks and feels like a Hideo Nakata film. Also, it gives time for Rachel and Max (the "love interest") to form a relationship. The guy actually HAS a character this time.
The Ring 2 wasn't that scary, but it explained some stuff and went into more depth about Samora or whatever her name is. Also it was still kinda creepyish... just not very scary.
That kid is just weird though, he's so creepy... he scares me.
The movie wasn't really bad though, I don't see why you'd laugh at it. There is nothing funny in the movie, even some of the stuff that tried to be scary, it might fall short, but I don't think it's funny... just me though.
I personally disagree with the horror movies in the past few years. I liked Amityville Horror and thought it was fun to watch, also because it is a true story and all (the thing that happened with DeFeos creeps the **** outta me). Even if the story is a bit exaggerated and stuff for the film, the original DeFeo family thing aand those muders is 100% true and I do believe the general idea from the other family (forget name).
Anyway, scary movies in general aren't always incredibly scary, but I find them fun to watch... and curious if you don't think the movies in the past 2 years were scary, what before that was?
Before the 2000-2002ish only movies I can think of are like Scream, etc... and IMO any movies before that suck. I hate old scary movies, the filming and effects suck.
Does anyone agree with me that a movie really isn't as scary without the great filming and effects unless the story is REALLY good. Since the effects, sound, filming, etc in the newer scary movies just adds a lot to movies to get you much more scared.
I dunno, that's my opinion... old scary movies are more or less boring and corny to me.
