It's very odd but I'm the only one in my neighborhood with power. Don't know how long it'll last, though.

The Hudson River has breached the seawall in Lower Manhattan.
Flooding ankle-deep in Meatpacking District.
Water is pouring into first floor and basement apartments in West Village along overflowing Hudson River.
Approx 250,000 without power in NYC area as outages spread during height of storm.
Holland Tunnel now closed due to flooding from Hudson River.
Rob Marciano gets very worked up talking over the 60 mph winds. It's kind of hot.

I'm reading a lot on Facebook from people who feel let down by Irene and are talking about all this buildup to nothing but if youve never been through a hurricane or seen the devastation it can leave behind while digging through whats left of a family members home trying to salvage anything you can find find, please just consider yourself lucky and know that should another hurricane threaten the city, you now know the proper precautions to take.

Jordan, I've only read a few things like that on my facebook feed, but I was definitely afraid of people feeling like we got ourselves worked up over nothing. I just hope it doesn't mean people won't take other storm warnings seriously.

Anyone who feels like that is welcome to stay unprepared and end up living here next time.

My dad got a call for a burning wire in town between 3 & 4 this morning. He is on EMS here. Now he is over at the firehouse because they wanted everyone to sit there today. It is raining still and windy. No idea about flooding here because I live 1/4 of a mile up a hill.
And Fox news has done it again. One of their reporters said that the Lincoln Tunnel is closed, which I would expect. But, he said it ends at 34th Street. No it doesn't.

This eerie quiet with no wind we've been having must be the eye of the storm...

No, the bulk of the storm has actually passed over us completely.

My family, my house, my cat, and I came through that completely unscathed. Just some branches down in the backyard. We didn't even lose power.

We got some water in our basement and are going to cut up the carpet we had there. Otherwise, we and our house are fine. The next town over that we drive through every day, though, is completely under water. We can't get more than a mile out of our hometown if we wanted to right now.

I'm glad all my friends are ok and I think NYC gov't did a great job showing they can coordinate a response. They were acting on solid weather reports, they cant control the outcomes. It would make me feel safer knowing that they were able to be pro-active. Great job, folks.

...isn't that what the price would be if you were to buy 24 individual bottles of water at Best Buy? (It's not Costco, I wouldn't expect a Best Buy case of water to be cheaper just because it's a case, and not individual bottles?)

I guess I slept through it. And the baby pigeons who crap on my windowsill are back, so that's reassuring!

I think Anakela is right. I think Best Buy only sells single bottles in front coolers, so all they were doing is bringing their cases they stock from to the front of the store. They'd probably have to ring the bottles separately.
While I admit those prices suck, I dont know if they were doing anything particularly sinister.

Getting hit by it hard up here in Albany right now. We've had very high winds and very heavy rain since around 5. No flooding in my immediate area yet. Kinda freaky to hear only wind, rain, and sirens outside!

I slept through the whole thing, too. No noticeable flooding on my street, but I've yet to venture out. Other people are already out and about. I would... but there is nothing to do!
So, that was the Drowsy Chaperone. Oh, I love it so much. I know it's not a perfect show...but it does what a musical is supposed to do. It takes you to another world, and it gives you a little tune to carry with you in your head for when you're feeling blue. Ya know?
