I will say that seeing that, having always been a fan of the show, the Overture in that theatre was thrilling with those giant chandelier pieces floating through the air and coming together with some fantastic lighting. And the "crash" at the end was absolutely astounding.
That's all I have to say. I have no use for irritating myself with the show that will be on that stage tonight.

I recognized it immediately. Surprised they left the boxes so Phantom-y. Very sad to see the stage empty though. But......I know ALW said that the Vegas phantom will never be seen again, seeing the theater itself unchanged gives me a bit of hope that they'll bring back the Vegas Phantom! Someday. A long time from now.

What has been occupying that theatre since phantom closed? Why would they keep it the way it is?

Rock of Ages is set to close in Las Vegas on January 3, 2016; is anything scheduled to replace it??
A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.

It's reopening at the Rio on Jan. 25.

The debate was in the Venetian Theatre (which was the Phantom theatre). Rock of Ages plays in the Rock of Ages Theatre (which is a different theatre within the Venetian Resort). RoA has a show which is currently running this very minute, not possible if it's in the debate's theatre!

Diana Ross has been doing a residency in that theater. She is back again in March.

The vegas Phantom sounds awesome, and wish parts of it could be incorporated into the Broadway production or a production elsewhere.

I do not know if it was a bust but it was not the mega hit they thought it would be. I think this was envisioned to run a long long time. It did not. I think with the Phantom musical playing all over the world many felt no burning desire to see it .They than opted for a different Vegas show.

@Carlos; Yes girl. I was there opening weekend. Same show she puts on everywhere else. But with full orchestra and more pizazz.

The Vegas version was better in some ways. While about an hour was cut from the Broadway version, this one was still good. The idea of remodeling the theater into an opera house with figures in each of the boxes was awesome. The chandelier here was different than the one on Broadway. They both had their way of doing it. No way to say which was better
