"OY GEVALT!"
I agree!!!
I wasn't going to respond because I'm quite tired but I'll give this a quick try. Believe it or not, argue or not, your choice.
The Jewish religion has several "areas" (for lack of a better word). As do all religions. There is not 1 kind of Jew, not 1 kind of Catholic, not 1 kind of Mormon, etc.
While religious beliefs are based upon the "book" you go by, it's not clear cut. I could believe the same thing about death that a Mormon believes- it doesn't make me any less Jewish. It doesn't make them less or more Morman.
When you die, go to heaven...nobody's stopping you. When I'm dead, I'm dead....going nowhere besides 6 feet under.
Nobody knows for sure where you're going. As Jane said, until the day comes where someone came back from the dead to report what happened, I believe that: DEAD IS DEAD.
"Not to be too politically correct, but there are almost 13,000,000 Mormons in the world, at least one probably posts on BWW. They would be offended. That post should be deleted"
Are you for real? Hon, there will always be someone offended by almost every post made here.
Anyway, my last word on the subject is that this is a matter of faith, belief, without needing proof. I respect anyone's beliefs. Why should I care?
I'm not a religious person, so I base my belief on my own opinion. Quite frankly, when I die, I'll be happy not to have an afterlife. I'm fine with that.
Just adding my 2 cents- there IS some form of a Jewish afterlife. I don't know the details, but I have been reading up on my religion lately (I felt I had become a bad Jew after going to college- I'm about to go into my third year and I have yet to go to the campus Hillel for services). If and when I find out more- if this thread is still alive, I will post about it.
:)
Me, not being a Mormon, I'm not terribly offended, but it was rude, insensitive, and uncalled for. I would defend any religion that was being talked about in a negative way. Jane2, are you alright with not being religious, when 6,000,00 of your people died? Do you think Anne Frank would be fine with no afterlife. Mazel tov on becoming more religious, littledancer729. There's probably a Chabad-Lubavitch in your area also (they're everywhere, they opened one in Vietnam!), even if you're not Orthodox, the people are always friendly and welcoming to any Jew.

We do have a Chabad, but my problem is always scheduling. I'm always in rehearsals for something- so I can rarely make it to services. It sucks.
I'm Conservative, but I have heard only negative things from my Conservative friends about the Hillel Conservative service. I've been told to go to the Orthodox service. While I hate the whole divide between men and women, I suppose it is better than nothing.
Hopefully I'll be able to try out a service next year.
Whatever you beleive will happen is what will happen. Why does everyone's experience have to be exactly the same? Everyone's experience of life is different and unique, and much of it is based on one's beliefs, perceptions and perspectives. Why should what happens after life be any different?

"Dead is dead, Fred. 'Nough said."
Then that will be your experience.
All I know is I believe everything this guy says

dying is theatrics. duh.
Wow Colleen thinks she is clever . I am devastasted byt her rapier wit - not.
This thread reminds me of a script I read, it was good but I need to re-read it... It's called No Exit I think... Check it.
So, I felt it was my duty to explore this querry and report to all of my BWW friends what really happens after you expire.
After a decidedly messy death scene I arrived in heaven with a reporter's curiosity. The first person to greet me was jesus. He was wearing a tank and hot pants and apparently is dating that Indian elephant god with like 12 arms. They politely informed me that no cameras were allowed lest someone snap a pic of Mohammad and cause all kinds of trouble down on the big blue marble.
(btw, I saw Mo, and let me tell you - I can see why the Muslims don't want him shown. He is one nelly lady. Who do you think invented that praying position where they get on their knees and touch their forehead to the ground? Only it was for an entirely different kind of "religious" experience)
I was ushered in to see the Big Guy. Surprisingly, he looks nothing like the pics. No white beard, no flowing gown. In fact, much to my surprise, he was the spitting (no pun) image of Sylvester! We had some laughs, did a Hi-ENRG version of "You Make Me Feel (Mighty Real)", and dished about who was gay and was still in the closet (I'm looking at you Buddha).
After a night of clubbing at "Heaven's Gate" which is the big disco in the sky, Sylvester/god told me it wasn't my time and that I could go back to earth as long as I promised not to convert to the new religion of Obamanism.
I awoke in my bed, safe and sound with a tale to tell. And that my friends is the last word on the afterlife.
I'm very disappointed in you guys. Elphaba, you don't REALLY die, it's just a trick you're playing on the Wizard's guards (and, indirectly, Glinda) so that they'll stop worrying about you and can move on to make Oz a better place. You really sneak off with Fiyero, the only person (well, scarecrow) who you allow to know you survived. It's quite sad really. It'd almost be less sad if you *had* died.
If you've been good, you get perpetual house seats for the greatest shows that have ever run - original cast of A Chorus Line, Lansbury in Mame, Brando in Streetcar. If you've been bad, you get perpetual partial-view seats to shows like Seussical and Cats, with your favorite performers replaced by ill-prepared understudies, a poor sound system, and annoying audience members with cell phones and poor hygene.
Theatre queens are rewarded with 1000 virgin chorus boys.
ok....my point was missed or ignored.
We do not allow hate groups to advertise here, if I am not mistaken........I'm sorry but I consider that church a hate group based on their last anti-gay crusade here, and what was said to me and my friend personally (and I assume the next one now that the law was struck down by the CA Supreme Court...
Yet, we allow no other churge to advertise, or do they not have enough money for the BWW powers that be?
I am hurt everytime I see those adds.......it's wrong, period
We don't allow the Catholics, Jews, Baptists, anyone else to advertise here (unless I missed those). We do not let Fred Phelps advertise here (for very good reasons)
Yet we allow a known homophobic church to post here. A church who busses their people into MY state to tell Californians to vote for a law which has nothing to do with the states they live in.
I am offended by that, hate is hate, whether veiled in Christianity or not.
This post will be deleted, as they always are....and I'll now give you the reason they are allowed to post......THEY HAVE MONEY, MONEY that apparently keeps this site running.
Now I wonder if the KKK, Fred Phelps, or Hamas (lets say they had gobs of money) wanted to advertise here, would they be allowed to?
Either way I question it.
As is said a huge part of the people on this board are gay and lesbian.
Every day we see advertisements for a church that does not teach tolerance of us, but rather goes from state to state to deny us marriage, work, and health rights.
That is just plain wrong.
They must give BWW a HUGE amount of money.
and musicaltheaterfan, by your analogy, if someone here is married to a nazi, KKK member, or any hate group you'd feel sorry for them to?
Sorry......gotta stand up, and grab your juevos sometimes and speak out.
And maybe they'll feel a little of the hurt I do when these insipid adds to join a church that wants "my kind" to not have the same benifits they do.
Oh, Tazzy, I knew Heaven must have sent you.

Even if you look at said Wikipedia page, it notes that different sects of Judaism have different beliefs about the afterlife.
And I don't see what Anne Frank has to do with Jane2 being religious or not. It's not like Jane has rejected her Jewish heritage or anything. I love that it is due to her that there's a decline in Jewish faith.
And I don't understand why someone being 71 makes them immune from lying, or exaggerating, or - most likely - hallucinating.
Obviously, the Anne Frank reference was used, because MTF knows very little about the religion, and that is her only reference. That, and what she is told by her relatives or what she reads on Wikipedia.

Besides, in spite of everything, Anne believed people were good at heart. I believe that about Jane, even if she is single-handedly destroying Judaisim herself.
Thanks for your support, guys. I think I understand what she's saying, though.
I'm sorry I'm not more devout but the traditions in my family were always celebrated as social rather than religious events. I'm proud I'm Jewish. I am spiritual in my heart, and try to be a good person. I communicate with God wherever I might be.
Jane is my kind of Jew!
I firmly believe that after we die, when we're looking down on ourselves (or our now-uninhabitated body), we are thinking "jeez, what were we so worried about for all those years?"
Jane is the Jew's Jew.
