If the election for the next President was held today, which candidate would you most likely vote for?
Hillary Clinton (D) - Senator from New York
John Cornyn (R) - Senator from Texas
Howard Dean (D) - Chairperson, Democrat Party
Bill Frist (R) - Senator from Tennessee
Al Gore (D) - Former Presidential Candidate
Rudy Giuliani (R) - Former Mayor of New York City
John Kerry (D) - Senator from Massachusetts
Joseph Lieberman (D) - Senator from Connecticut
John McCain (R) - Senator from Arizona
George Pataki (R) - Governor of New York
None of the above
Dean and Gore are my favorites from your list, but if I had ANY choice, I'd go with Pres. Cornell West with VP Ann Richards. I don't know on which planet such a thing could occur, but there it is.
Mine are Dean and Gore too!
...but it's Paula Dean and Leslie Gore.
For the Republicans among us, you may want to add Condi Rice to that list.

A driver is stuck in a traffic jam on the
highway. Nothing is moving.
Suddenly a man knocks on the window.
The driver rolls down the window and asks, "What
happened?"
"Terrorists kidnapped President Bush and are
asking for a $10 million ransom.
Otherwise they are going to douse him with
gasoline and set him fire. We are going
from car to car to take up a collection."
The driver asks, "How much is everyone giving on
average?"
"About a gallon...."

There are Republicans among us?

Condi, like Powell, has been a lapdog and although an intelligent woman does not have a chance, but she does have to be considered.
I have no clue at this point. I am beginning to think that Barak Obama needs to reconsider his options.

Clinton and or Obama! Or basically anything on this planet that is not Bush
"are Republicans among us?"
Yes, of course. We just tend to remain hidden...
Mark Warner (D) - Former Governor of Virginia
...I certainly don't agree with him on everything, but he has the best shot (I think) of winning the moderate vote.
Obama SHOULD NOT run for at least 2012, preferably 2016. He is still an 'amateur' in national politics and would be publicly lynched.
I would love to see Dean, but I highly doubt it is going to happen. I'm not too excited about Clinton, but it is possible that she might win.
Warner is a very smart choice. He has a Southern background (any democrat from the north doesn't really have a chance) and he has the respect of many republicans.
If a republican MUST be elected I would have to go with McCain as he is a much lesser evil then the current president.
I am NOT excited about a Hillary run. Bill she ain't--not by a long shot.

Jacob, that was my original thought about Obama, but who in 2008? Doesn't Warner only have one term as governor?
Hillary does not have a shot which is unfortunate.
Warner has one term as governor purely because Virginia law prohibits two consecutive terms in office. He'd have been re-elected by a mile (having left office with a near-75% approval rating), and managed to get a less popular Democrat elected as Governor on his coattails (Republicans won for Lt. Governor and Attny. General). He worked with a heavily Republican legislature to turn around the state's floundering economy. I don't think his seeming lack of experience represents how he'd do as President.
Edit: Also, I agree, not Obama, not for years. Rhetorical prowess doesn't make someone a good Presidential candidate...yet.

Any Democrat, and here's why: the Supreme Court has just undergone a rightward shift with the appointment of Alito (and it was already right of center before that). Stevens is ancient, and who knows how long he will stay in good health? When he is replaced, it needs to be a Democrat picking his replacement. Of all the legacies a president can leave, Supreme Court appointments are the most far-reaching and irreversible.
So I guess I would pick the most electable Democrat, who is quite likely Warner at this point, given the widespread Clinton-hatred that the Republicans are jumping at the chance to tap into.

I vote for the McCain/Clinton ticket.
But first, let's have electronic voting machines made and operated by non-partisan companies and let's have a paper trail.
That would be dandy.

actually, if we (the liberal arm of the country) take back the house and senate in the mid terms, then I don't really give a damn who gets elect president, cause it won't matter.
Someone who can string 12 words into an intelligible sentence.
Beyond that, someone who's willing to talk about higher education. But I'd settle for the sentence thing, because we all know that no one will be discussing higher education any time soon.
I am voting for Jed Bartlett. The show got cancelled. He can run, right?
I would COMPLETELY support Hillary in the VP spot. That is what I think will be KEY this year. They need to plan for the future. I don't think Hilary is ready to be president, but in 8 years, she could be. Whomever we choose needs an EXCELLENT VP. Hell, we could get 16 years.
Shoshana Bean.
But really, Hilary Clinton.
