clinton vs. sanders your vote?

OMG PRS you're so smart and I have no idea how politics works! Thanks for explaining it to me!!

I in no way meant to imply you didn't know how politics works or that I was smarter, so sorry if that's how you took it.

I've explained this a million times before in this thread. I live in NJ. Which will inevitably vote blue in the Presidential election. So I can vote for whoever I want and not worry about electing whoever the GOP candidate is. And you obviously have no idea what the Green Party platform is.

If you say so.  But since you know that the Green Party doesn't have a snowball's chance in hell, I'm not sure that they're positions really matter, except for someone casting a spite vote.  Not to mention that as the country gets more and more divided, I wouldn't count on any state going a certain way just because that's way it usually happens.

But I would trust them in dealing with every issue you mentioned over Hillary Clinton. And guess what...their candidate is a woman!

I hope there's someone to mitigate this lady candidate's ambition!  Just kidding, I know running for president as a green party candidate pretty much does that for her!

Told an interviewer???????????

Yes. As reported by Greg Guma in the March 16-23, 1989, edition of the Vermont Vanguard Press on the bottom of the second page/top of the third page:

http://www.sevendaysvt.com/vermont/eight-years-that-shook-vermont/Content?oid=2434446

Speaking of Sanders's record as mayor of Burlington, Guma reported: "Issues affecting women and the gay community, for example, sometimes took a back seat.... Sanders...was not eager to carry the banner of gay and lesbian rights.... One striking example was Sanders's response to questions from local feminists about his support of proposals to prevent job discrimination against gays. "I will not make it a major priority," he said bluntly.

PJ I stand corrected and that article was inaccurate. But if we are going to talk about 'issues affecting the gay community taking a back seat" then I think it's fair to bring up Hillary Clintons support for DOMA and Don't Ask Don't Tell. So while Bernie Sanders might not have been for "full equality forty years ago" it is clear his record on gay rights is better than Hillary Clintons. And he's never supported polices that would HARM the gay community. Hillary Clinton couldn't even say she supported gay marriage until...1 year ago?

But Hillary Clinton IS mega rich and brings in the $$$. So it makes sense that HRC would endorse her. They have galas to throw after all! Maybe they can hold one at the old Ziegfield.

And PRS...here's why I would vote Green. I've volunteered for every Democratic presidential campaign from Bill Clinton to Obama in 2008. However I've come to see that neither the GOP or the Democrats represent the working class of this country. PJ himself has said that, I think in this thread.

Bill Clinton ushered in an era of neo-liberalism that dismantled welfare, dismantled public education, deregulated Wall Street, increased mass incarceration, increased corporate welfare, etc. etc. Hillary Clinton is the new leader of the neo-liberal wing of the Democratic party who is now leading the party away from supporting universal healthcare! In the words of Clinton herself "since when do Democrats attack each other for supporting universal healthcare?"

I don't like to talk about work a lot on here. But I run a community mental health center in an inner city. Every day I sit across from kids who I know only eat when they come to school. I've seen kids in middle school die from lack of healthcare. I sit across from parents who work 80 plus hours a week of back breaking work and still can't afford to pay rent. I've seen an entire community shattered by the new Jim Crow of mass incarceration (read the book if you haven't!). I get to see the effects of neo-liberal policies every day.

So that's why I no longer call myself a Democrat. And I can't support the direction the party is going. So I will protest the direction the party is going in the ways that I can. By not donating to candidates who's polices I don't support just because they have  a D after their name. And, by the most powerful way I know how, with my vote.

So I'm not some crazy idealist who think Bernie Sanders is going to get elected President and ride into the White House on his magic unicorn and turn America into a liberal utopia. I realize that Hillary Clinton will PROBABLY be the Democratic nominee.

But I also think our political system is broken. Our government is not working for the vast majority of Americans. Voting for the same type of a candidates isn't going to fix the system. So that is why I will be voting Green.

And now here's a poll from today!

John Steppling, "The Tolerant Fascist"

http://john-steppling.com/2016/01/the-tolerant-fascist/

"It occurs to me that Trump is much closer to Mosely than Mussolini. Trump is a dilettante, and wealthy. Ted Cruz is closer to Il Duce, and even then, its a sort of less operatic version. The chief caretaker of the Fascist legacy is Hillary Clinton. That slightly pop eyed hysteria, the sense that the sight of blood, or thought of it, increases salivation. She is the new tolerant fascist, though. She appeals to liberals, not the working class whites or minorities. I don’t think she even appeals to proletarian women much. No, she appeals to college educated younger women, entitled, and selfish, and angry. And to a degree she appeals to some liberal white men who imagine this political theatre is something else, something like real life. But Hillary is the serious fascist in this And her cackling response to Gaddafi’s death, the now infamous ‘we came, we saw, he died’, resonates as the closest thing to Shakespearean villainy since Nixon. Except by way of Mickey Spillane. And Jimmy Hoffa. The cultural and aesthetic signature of this age is Clintonian. The deep state goes on, regardless. But the style of this new fascism is Bill and Hillary. And then Chelsea married a banker, a hedge fund broker with ties to Israel. Bill scans the horizon for opportunities to plunder. To pillage."

I don't think this election brings an end to Sanderism in the future.  This is the first step, from every election heretofore there will be a Sanders candidate, and someday that person will win, soon.

I'm just going to assume you're somewhat humorous when you mock me Namo.  I am old, and I don't get many of your references, nor care to figure them out.  I just saw a poll that says Sanders is ahead now in Iowa.  It may be bull****, we'll see soon enough, this is exciting.  What my fellow Libs seem not to understand is that Sanders stands a better chance of winning than Clinton.  Don't underestimate the dampening she will put on the base.

Erik never stop talking about your work.  I'm sure everyone here admires what you do.  Regarding voting for Clinton, if it comes to that I'll have to, I'm in a swing state and one of the themes of this thread has been, rightfully so, the Supreme Court.  This latest Iowa poll has me excited.  The Clinton faction in here conceded a long time ago she would lose these first two, but if the margins are large enough it will wake a lot of people up.

The Democrats need to stop fighting with each other and work together to prevent a Republican from being elected. I hope Sanders gets the nomination and I'll vote for him in the primary, but if it's Hillary, I'll gladly vote for her in November. If we don't come together to support and vote for our eventual nominee, we'll end up with a Republican in the White House.

I believe the majority of Sanders voters will vote for Hillary if she gets the nomination.  I'll do it.  I'll do it with a few drinks in me and a barf bag at the ready but I'll do it.

In other news, Michelangelo Signorile weighs in on the "fear and loathing" inside the Clinton campaign:

So, in this interview on Glenn Thrush's Politico podcast, Obama pretty much endorses Hillary and tells Bernie no.

"When I asked him if Sanders reminded him of himself in 2008, he quickly shot me down: “I don’t think that's true.”

I was watching the new showtime political documentary series and there was a question that I found so amazing. It was along the lines of if the Republican Party is so scared of Donald trump why don't they just choose one of the the long serving DC republicans right now and get everyone else's voters to back them and when that happens that person will have more votes than trump. That sounds like a perfect plan for the Republican Party at whole.

The chances of that happening Jorge are about as believable as singing and dancing mice and birdies making an Inaugural gown for Milania Trump. Let's  face it, change is hard! From the right to be free, for women to vote, racial tolerance and intolerance, marriage equality, lgbt equality, black lives matter...not one of these happened or has yet to happen overnight. All we can hope for is further republican implosion, and while we can all respect Bernie Sanders for an altruistic vision for the future, it will not happen in two or four years or overnight.

I still believe that HRC is the one person to lead our country for the next 8 years. On the CNN town hall tonight you can admire all three of them for their virtues, but when it comes to leadership and vision AND experience, Hillary must be our next President.
