In the age of youtube and DVRs I think the argument that you need to preserve this one Tony performance so it will live on is diminished. Then again, if it's the best song to sell the show, I get why they keep performing that one song. Though of course for selfish reasons I'd like to have more numbers preserved in non-bootleg fashion.

Is this confirmed?? That honestly makes me angry. It's not about the marketing so much as tradition. Arguably the performance I was looking forward to the most, and I've seen the show.
With the notice for "extras" for The Great Comet, I think they'll be performing Balaga. My first thought was that they were going to go for gusto and do The Dual because of the request for young "edgy" people, but the few pictures they've released from Tony rehearsal have shown performers with their instruments, so I think that eliminates the big club scene.

I don't get what the whole big SECRET of Hello Dolly is. This whole choice to make it into a giant mystery is going to hurt the production's long term life because yes it was brought back for Bette and yes it will make it's money back before Bette departs but it's also a show that could survive BEYOND Bette with a nice lineup of other "named" stars in the leading role... so why are they not showing off the production itself? The OTHER performances? Why treat it like some kind of ultra secret club that no one is allowed to even look inside the door at without paying a small fortune? I know they won't loose at this point but it makes me hope that Falsettos pulls a miracle here and crushes it!

This is totally gamesmanship. The Tonys need Dolly, not the other way around. Why should Dolly pay? The Tonys will cave. Dolly will perform and not pay.
I find it hard to believe that Bette won't at least attend. She's in the biggest show of the season and 100% of the publicity has been about her. Does anyone have any clue what on earth Scott Rudin is doing? I'm sure he has a plan, but refusing to market your show to this level almost seems like deliberate career suicide.
I sincerely hope that Hello Dolly performs. I imagine that leading with the most nominees of any revival will at the very least warrant attendance from Bette, David, Gavin and Kate.

"Bette is attending...I know someone that works for the designer of her TONY dress...as for Dolly not performing...who's spreading that rumor?

Seems as if any show was going to try to perform without paying, it would have been Hamilton last year and I don't remember hearing anything about them bucking tradition.
Bette showed up to accept an OCC award, so it seems preposterous to think she wouldn't come to the Tonys.
Just remembering you've had an "and"
When you're back to "or"
Makes the "or" mean more than it did before
Honestly, I know theatre is still a business but the whole handling of Dolly reeks of elitism and bad sportsmanship. It makes me want to pay to see it less and less.
I think it would be a total smack in the face to the musical theater world & all of its fans if HELLO, DOLLY! doesn't perform.
A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.

I agree. If so, maybe it will swing some voters in Patti's direction.

Bette might get hers, but that may very well be the only award any Rudin production takes home at all on June 11th if these rumors turn out to be reality.

DOLLY not performing at least comes from (seemingly) a source... the idea of Bette not attending the awards literally stemmed from a comment on here and is NOT happening. Lol. The thought of that is laughable.
As far as the show NOT performing as to keep the show itself a "secret," I can only think of one other show in recent memory who did this (The Book of Mormon) and even they performed on the TONYs.
