Now that we're barely a month away from Noms. And the TONYs and just over 2 months away, I was wondering what you guys think each show that is invited to be on the telecast will perform... obviously the roster has grown to include national tours and (controversially) non-nominated shows as well since live performances boost telecast ratings, and are infomercials used to sell tickets and reach a wider demographic by producers. Thoughts/wishes? Here's my guess as to which shows will actually perform...
New Musicals: Come From Away, Amelie, Anastasia, Dear Evan Hansen, Great Comet, A Bronx Tale, Groundhog Day, Charlie & Choc.Factory, and Bandstand...
Revivals: Cats, Miss Saigon, Hello Dolly, and Sunset BLVD
Now what songs do u think or hope each of the above will likely perform if given the opportunity...?
Invited is a curious word....as the productions pay dearly to get their show on the air. Very expensive. That being said, with so many shows this year, it's possible show w/no nominations...particularly in the major categories won't have the chance.
If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it?
These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.
I think it would have to depend on how many of the non-nominated productions will still be running by June 11th.
As for what numbers the nominees could perform...
Anastasia-Journey to the Past Cats-Jellicle Songs for Jellicle Cats/Memory Come From Away-Welcome to the Rock/Somewhere in the Middle of Nowhere Dear Evan Hansen-You Will Be Found Falsettos-Falsettoland Hello, Dolly!-Hello, Dolly! Miss Saigon-The Heat is On/The Last Night of the World Natasha Pierre, & the Great Comet of 1812-Prologue/Pierre Sunset Boulevard-As If We Never Said Goodbye
What if Wonka and Borle have a performance, would he also be in a Falsetto's performance. What I'm really asking does SJB have any shot for Breaking Down?
Would LCT pay to do a live performance from "Falsettos"? I suppose they could to promote the Live From Lincoln Center airing, whenever that happens.
I hope shows get over this notion of doing medleys. They almost always fall flat. Just give us one good number and don't try to show off every single one of your nominees in four minutes.
I'd love for Dear Evan Hansen to do "Only Us" and give us all a break from "Waving Through a Window". They could also do "You Will Be Found", but it would have to be trimmed down.
Just remembering you've had an "and"
When you're back to "or"
Makes the "or" mean more than it did before

I would love to see MIss Saigon go a different way and perform Movie in my Mind or a different song, since they perform LNOTW for nearly every performance, it seems.
Well, since Eva Noblezada and Jon Jon Briones are both possible nominees, I'm sure Cameron Mackintosh would like to have them showcased on the telecast.
I doubt the title number from "Dolly" will be performed. "Parade" might be more likely. The suggestion for "Comet" -- abridging the opening as a segue into "Pierre" is a great idea. With Groban leaving less than a month later, however, it's probably true that "Dust and Ashes" won't be on the show.

I get that DEH have done numerous WTAW performances but I still hope they do it on the Tonys. It's so much better than anything else in the score and I think could be a standout moment of the ceremony ala Sydney Lucas singing Ring of Keys. It will also be a showcase for DEH's most deserving Tony win in Ben Platt.
I think the producers of Hello, Dolly! would more like to showcase Bette Midler. Plus, if a show has multiple acting nominees, they don't need to showcase every single one of them.

Movie In My Mind does not reflect Miss Saigon as a whole. And would never be performed on the TONYS. A solo number by "Gigi" on the TONYS?
Seeing Dolly on April 21st--and then again her first evening performance after the Tony broadcast--but what do people who have seen it think of her doing "So Long, Dearie"?
In a strange way, that's the number of hers I am most looking forward to.
I think Jeffrey's list is pretty much dead on. But is "The Heat Is On" a bit too raunchy for broadcast? Absolutely "Hello, Dolly!" which stops the show every night. Lead with your strong suit and put the title of your show out there. It's impossible to predict "Chocolate Factory" until we've seen it but I would think a number featuring Borle and the children. And wouldn't it be fun to have non-nominees Close and Gyllenhaal as the hosts? Maybe they could do a little mashup of "As If We Never Said Goodbye" and "Finishing the Hat."
Whether LCT actually pays for a Falsettos performance is up in the air. If they do, it will be something that doesnt require the whole cast. So Block actually has a great shot at performing "I'm Breaking Down". She's their most likely acting nominee, and producers would only have to pay one performer and not coordinate schedules of the other actors for rehearsals. Other closed musicals have done similar solo numbers ("Follies" and "Ragtime" revivals come to mind)
I hope, if Falsettos does perform, that they do "I'm Breaking Down." But if they don't, I could also see them doing "What Would I Do?"-- Borle and Rannells are draws, and the song is accessible and emotional to those who are unfamiliar with the show.
How common is it for Tony performers to be featured in multiple performances?

I think it's likely that Great Comet will do the Prologue. I wonder if Malloy could find a more definitive ending that doesn't require a lead-in to Pierre. I think that song works in the show, but I don't think it's the most appealing on its own, and I imagine the producers want to minimize selling Groban since he'll be gone from the show by July. Part of me would love to see Balaga- the added dance break for Broadway really is a showstopper.
I don't see Sunday performing- it isn't eligible for anything because the producers are saving money, so why would they pay to have a performance on the show? Also, in such a crowded season, I don't know if there are available slots for it anyway.
I am a firm believer in serendipity- all the random pieces coming together in one wonderful moment, when suddenly you see what their purpose was all along.
