An agent friend said that talks are now underway to bring my favorite comedy back to Broadway, and not a minute too soon. He hasn't heard any names though and wasn't sure if it might be the Gad/Rannells rumored one or something hopefully fresher. It would be quite a 1-2 with Josh Gad and Mel Brooks after Spaceballs 2.
Does anyone know more?

Is this the recent Menier Chocolate Factory production
I saw it in London, while I enjoyed it quite a lot, it did not make me really want to see it multiple times

The London production is okay. It actually isn't that great a show, the original leads gave it a momentum that followed through the many cast changes.
However Gad and Rannells could really ignite it.

I doubt Producers would do that well at the box office these days. The original only made $$ with Lane and Broderick. The tour did very poorly around the country. Also, not sure in the age of MAGA that the NAZI stuff would play as funny.
I feel like a revival such as this is developed with specific names attached from the start.
This really needs two big names in it to do well. Times and tastes have changed dramatically since The Producers first premiered. And I don't think the title alone will sell tickets the way it used to. If they transfer the Chocolate Factory production without star casting, this won't run long. That's just the state of Broadway right now.
I would be VERY down with a Gad and Rannells production though. They are two names that can sell the show and perform the roles well. And it would be so fun to see them reunite after their excellent chemistry in Gutenberg. You'd need at least this level of names above the title to turn a Broadway mounting into a hit.
I would love a Nick Kroll & John Mulaney-led production, honestly.

This piques my interest way more than Gad and Rannells (and would be more financially successful, for sure).
I’ll never understand the calls for Gad/Rannells production when both of them are Blooms
Gad in no way gives off Bialystock to me, only that he is built in a figure that we associate with the character.

Rannells is Bialystock. Gad is Bloom. They would be very different takes than Lane/Broderick, but I think it would work. I wouldn't even change the lines about Max being fat. They can be mined for humor given Gad is clearly the fat one of the two.

It’s the current London production- they are in talks to transfer to Broadway. It’s a very small scale show, which would seem to fit well with where Broadways heading.

Happy to clarify my comment, but not sure which part of it you’re confused by.

Neither of them could effectively give off smarmy old lady f*cker.
Having seen the London production, this wouldn’t fit it whatsoever.

I completely agree. They're both Blooms. There needs to be at least a little bit of a notable age gap between Leo and Max. One of them paired with maybe Norbert Leo Butz as Max could work.
Butz is a great casting suggestion for Max.

Maybe not as smarmy, but I think Rannells can play a desperate huckster - as I said, it would be a different take.
Though now all I can think about is Norbert Leo Butz, which seems like the obvious answer.

I think Jack Black and Daniel Radcliffe would be a great team.
