I'd like to see Billie Joe Armstrong do it. But every year I say Billie Joe Armstrong, it's never Billie Joe Armstrong.
Come back to Broadway, Billie Joe. My ex-hot topic employed self needs it.

Will probably be Cynthia Erivo.
Assuming ratings will drop this year as expected, the Tonys will get a bold new look next year no longer under See BS's grasp: new broadcast platform, new host, and potentially a new venue as well.

How would she do this with Dracula running in London through May?

Writers will provide the bulk of her material beforehand, and she'll be available via Zoom calls.
Besides, last year she performed an hourlong set at World Pride the night before the Tonys. I'm sure she can handle this.

She also ran a marathon then did TWO shows of COLOR PURPLE -- girl knows how to multi-task!

Does this excellent multi-tasker who was provided with her Dracula script ahead of time have her lines down yet?

If I remember correctly, Alan Cumming said at a Tony party at Club Cumming a few years back that it was about “two weeks work” and was paid “about $4000” (2015, the year he cohosted with Cheno). Erivo could easily do the same.
With the mergers of all the major media companies happening this year, I think this would be a prime opportunity for Stephen Colbert to host. He is smart, funny, has a deep appreciation of the arts, and is currently a national symbol for resistance in media. While the Tonys may never garner a huge audience, having Colbert would be a fantastic middle finger to CBS on his way out.

It’ll be interesting to see what happens with the telecast going forward. The Oscars are ditching ABC and moving to YouTube in 2029. Wonder if the same would ever happen with the Tonys. The Tony audience skews older so I assume they’re more likely to watch on CBS but in general, award shows on broadcast TV are a melting iceberg.

I mean she’s good what’s so hard about it ? Sing and dance for 5 minutes. Costume change …here’s a presenter… a moment in the audience. I thought she was perfect

The Tony Awards are an easy lift for someone with her stamina. Are audiences as excited to see her host again? Remains to be seen.
Personally, I'd be fine if the Tonys moved online. That means more people in more territories can see it live - especially if, as in the news today, the plans are for HBO Max and Paramount+ to come together under one streamer

We know Erivo can do it. It's a question of whether she is asked and if she even wants to.

Surprised Johnathan Groff has not done it yet.

Crossover appeal is a necessity for a host. (Erivo had WICKED, DeBose won her Oscar for WSS, James Corden had the late night show). Groff still has relatively limited appeal outside of the theatre community - the average person does not necessarily know who he is, let alone would invest time to watch him host a theatre awards show.
He would be better suited to one of the other awards bodies, like the Drama Desks, where it’s basically the 54 Below version of the Tonys

Stephen Colbert would be an amazing host. He’s always been an excellent presenter especially when he presented Bette Midler with her Tony in 2017. I’d love him to do it. They could always get Alan and Kristin to do it together again, they’d also be amazing. Cynthia was an exceptional host so I’d be happy if she returned.

I would like to see Ariana take a stab at it! Obviously impossible this year because of her tour, but she’s got great comedic timing and it would be good for viewership (even if her fans tune out after the opening number and get other bits through social media).

I feel like the year Alan and Kristin hosted together isn’t fondly remembered…that said I feel like Alan is hot in the news with Traitors and may have the clout to host solo now.

After what just happened at the BAFTAs I would think he probably wants a break from hosting award shows for a bit.

I wonder if they'd try to get Megan Thee Stallion, she'll have just finished up her run in Moulin Rouge, she's got a great personality and certainly has crossover appeal.

Not to mention his affiliation with NBC/Peacock could be a conflict of interest. (Maybe, maybe not.)
Cynthia did do a fantastic job last year. Love the Colbert idea.
I've always thought Jesse Tyler Ferguson would be a fun, but I fear his star power may have diminished a touch in recent years.
