In Donna McKechnie's autobiography, she talkes about a conversation she had with Elaine during the Broadway and London runs of Company, where she totally forgot the lyrics to The Ladies Who Lunch, and barely sang the song BOTH opening nights. Elaine said that forgetting lyrics and lines always happens to her on opening nights...I guess its still with her.
So, Ms. Strich forgetting her lines on opening night isn't new.

Can we not actually say the name of "the site" on here? I'll give you a hint. It begins with You... I have the link to the video in question if anyone wants me to PM it to them.

Thanks for all the reviews. I'm itching for any and all accounts. What a dream duo this could be once Stritch finds her footing. I've just got to make it to NY to see this. (Heading over to that site...)
If you mean a PM of Clowns, Jordan, I can send you that. But if you mean a PM of Liasons (or anything else from the show, for that matter), I would also love a PM of that :)

Liasons wasn't as rough as I thought it would be! Sure, the technical stuff is often not what it should be, but you definitely tell that the performance is there. And it's funnier than I've ever heard it, which is a start!

I think it's completely unfair to post her Liaisons on a public site. Trading or The Singing Stage is one thing. But this seem unfair. The number was not her finest moment, and she visibly frustrated that she couldn't get the number right. Out of respect for Elaine, I would not have posted it publicly. Seems cruel.
I acknowledged that it wasn't perfected yet. But I also acknowledged that her performance was excellent. She may have forgotten lyrics and messed up the tempo, but it's not really a bad performance of the song. I don't see that as disrespectful.
Well Elaine certainly doesn't try to use any form of accent as per Rrraisons
She attempted some kind of accent once or twice during the book scenes, but gave up quickly. I assume once she gets everything down, they will then worry about her accent. Right now, she is the only one not doing an accent on that stage.
I was surprised how flawless Bernadette's accent was. It takes some getting used to, but she didn't slip or drop it once. It was actually similar to CZJ's accent. She must have worked closely with the dialect coach.
It sounds fantastic. Both of them, I cant wait to see the two of them in the small time they have actaully with each other on stage, and now I crave more, must see it again!
On the contrary, (i doubt i used that correctly) I think it'll be one of the performances that goes down in history as "Elaine Stritch's first performance in A Little Night Music on Broadway, and even though she screwed up here and there, we were thrilled to have been there and witnessed that unique evening at the theatre"
It could have been a lot worse. She could have forgotten more lyrics. She could have tried to start over. She could have had more lyrics shouted to her. She could have let the frustration ruin the performance of the song. Any number of things could've been worse. "Liaisons" was not a train wreck.
I am a HUGE Stritch fan. I've been suggesting her as Madame Armfeldt since last summer. But yes, that number was pretty much a train wreck. I'm sure it will get better with more time. But that was not her finest moment, and I'm sure she was embarrassed as much as she was frustrated. I really do love her though, and I think her Madame will be wonderful in a couple of weeks.
