I so want to be there tonight... Bernadette is my favorite. I last saw her at the Providence Performing Arts Center two years ago... her concert performance was perfection!!!
ColorTheHours, is it really TWO tickets per student ID? The ALNM website says 1 ticket per ID. You really just got 2 tickets with one ID? Oh, please say it's so!! :)
Edit: I just found the thread devoted to rush tickets--looks like it is indeed TWO per valid student ID. I'm a happy camper!

"You can't overrate Bernadette Peters. She is such a genius. There's a moment in "Too Many Mornings" and Bernadette doing 'I wore green the last time' - It's a voice that is just already given up - it is so sorrowful. Tragic. You can see from that moment the show is going to be headed into such dark territory and it hinges on this tiny throwaway moment of the voice." - Ben Brantley (2022)
"Bernadette's whole, stunning performance [as Rose in Gypsy] galvanized the actors capable of letting loose with her. Bernadette's Rose did take its rightful place, but too late, and unseen by too many who should have seen it" Arthur Laurents (2009)
"Sondheim's own favorite star performances? [Bernadette] Peters in ''Sunday in the Park,'' Lansbury in ''Sweeney Todd'' and ''obviously, Ethel was thrilling in 'Gypsy.'' Nytimes, 2000
Oh my. Well Sondheim is in his seat! Bernie is very commited, accent and all. So far so good. Elaine is trying her best. Attempted an accent but has since dropped it. A lyric was called out to her in Liaisons, and she ended out of sync with the orch. She seems terrified. I think she will get better in time. I love her wig. Bernie has a typical red curly wig! She looks wonderful. Some minor changes throughout. Act 2 will be interesting!
Bernadette Peters is phenomenal. Stritch is also great, I would like to see her grow into the role and become comfortable. I'm still shaky about the show itself but it's more enjoyable this time.
Well...she's trying her best. She really is, but she's not there yet. Dropped lines all over the place. The tempo in Liaisons changed 5 times and she backphrased. She looks completely terrified. She has some moments, but needs a lot of work.

I have yet to see Bernie live (though I had a few chances, even one to be her follow spot op, but alas, I was working on another show at the time). And I would love to see Stritchie.
I did enjoy it with CZJ and Angie though, so I guess I'll just have to live with those memories.
Lansbury had some similar issues the first couple of performances too (and she had a full rehearsal schedule) I'm sure Stritch will blossom with a week or two under her belt.
For those attending tonight's perfromance: have their been any changes within the other performances (the original cast?) or in the pacing/ direction? Also, how different are the costums/ wigs for Stritch and Bernadette?
Wow!!! Bernies Clowns was unbelievable! It was expert. Stritch had problems with the opening of act 2 and thE dinner scene. Bernadette had to announce "to life!" and Elaine responded with " you are adorable!" lol. Her wooden ring and final scene were almost perfect. Curtain was indeed emotional. Elaine was extemely overwhelmed. Peters got on her knee to bow to her and Elaine mouthed "why did you do that!?" it's only going to get better from here!
This may be a stupid question, and I know how it works in school/student productions, but what exactly happens when a line is called in a Broadway show? Did Stritch call line or did an ASM from offstage feed her the line when it seemed she was blanking. I am not judging at all, I think this woman is a Queen in the theatre world, I am merely curious as to what exactly happened?
No Elaine did not call for it. Someone backstage called it out for her.
Only changes I noticed are Madame's wheelchair now has a flower on it. Stritch now pours a cup of tea during her Glamorous Life solo. She didn't stand during the middle section of Liaisons. And she now wears a hat during the entire act 2. So basically all changes involved Stritch. Updated On: 7/13/10 at 10:32 PM
The show ended at 10:10 making it 3 hours and 10 minutes. I highly recommend returning if you've seen it before and go if haven't at all. I wish the show opened with Bernadette and I wish she had won the Tony.
