I think it is Cate Blanchett or Nicole Kidman.
Cate Blanchett is doing A Street Car Named Desire at the Kennedy Center and BAM this fall.

oh neil what an inspiration. he would be great
He probably would be good, and I feel like he has played the part before or maybe I'm confusing him with someone else, but I don't think his name has come up at all.
it would make my day if this was announced tomorrow.
^Me too. I was JUST thinking that now that Irena's Vow has closed, it'll be nice to see an announcement about this soon. I've been following this thread and I'm anxious to find out who's in the cast!
ok, why has no one been suggesting Marion Cotillard as Desiree?

I thought of that, but, though I adore her, with what little knowledge I have of the show, wouldn't she play way too young/too French?
I'm dying for this announcement....
the wiki says Marion Cotillard is 33, which makes her the same age as Kate Winlset (although I always forget how young Kate Winslet really is). I've actually never seen Cotillard in anything, but she really intrigues me.

Leib callbacks were this past week, so tomorrow seems a bit premature, but who knows. I'd say within the next three weeks though, definitely. I'd say expect to see a few Broadway vets cast as the Leibs because the understudies are all being drawn from them...

LoveIsCompany - Have they been seeing girls for Fredricka? Or are they waiting on an official Desiree?
I hope Kelsey Fowler is seen for Fredrika.

come to think of it it could be Cotillard. The accent might be the only thing in her way. She does have a very sweet singing voice.

I've heard the star they are courting is indeed Kidman.
Honestly, I would be very happy with Kidman.
Imagine ticket sales with Kidman and Lansbury.
no, I still really hope it's not Nicole Kidman. I just don't find her to be the most inspired choice.
Kidman would be miscast in the part, really. Desiree she ain't. Though obviously I'd still see it and maybe she would even surprise me, I don't doubt she'd be good but the best choice for the role? No.
I've heard other names that I'm much more excited about, and it really is a pity that Laura Linney's name seems to just not be in the running at all. She would have been marvelous.

Wasn't Glenn Close originally mentioned for this production way back when?

She was rumored for a revival back in the late 90's, but I don't think she has ever been considered by Trevor Nunn for his production, seeing as she's just over 20 years older than he wants to cast the role.
She would have made an excellent Count Carl-Magnus.
Smaxie, I laughed out loud.
They could at least announce it's playing the Kerr. Are they waiting for the full cast?
