Surprised by this transfer but exciting nevertheless. I'm curious to see if Jim Parsons is a big enough name to get people in the seats. Is his performance Tony worthy?
It's a bit tough to predict his box office power here.
On one hand, his last 2 Broadway shows recouped - which is actually a pretty stellar track record, these days. But An Act of God was at the height of his Big Bang Theory fame, and in Boys in the Band, he had some other stars alongside him - it was more of an "event" piece, rather than a "come see Jim Parsons" piece. So it's tough to know how many tickets he'll sell by himself, now that now that Big Bang Theory is irrelevant.
We've seen before that a tv/movie star in a musical often sells better than a tv/movie star in a play. But then again, this intimate, lesser-known musical might as well be a play, for all its marketability and broad-appeal (I love the musical, personally).
On the plus side, with John Doyle's staging, it'll be capitalized at approximately...what? A thousand dollars?
As for whether it's a Tony-worthy performance - I thought he was awful, but I saw it in early previews, and I heard he improved somewhat. So take that how you will.
I loved loved LOVED this show at CSC this past Fall. One of my fav things I saw in all of 2022. Going in knowing like one song, and nothing else pretty much. I fell hard for this show and this story and thought Parsons, and the whole cast were superb. Very exciting for this news, well once it actually becomes news lol
It was a magnificent show down at CSC and the CITS would be a perfect fit with virtually no changes to the physical production except to build a brick back wall and gallery where one existed at CSC.
The onstage orchestra included 4 musicians in the gallery plus at least 4 cast members who played strings, guitar and some timpani (and beautifully). So the CSC score was orchestrated for at least 8 musicians.
Sorry to say that Jim Parsons, while perfectly acceptable in the lead role, was far outmatched by his costars' spectacular performances. Most unlikely that he'll reap a Tony nom for this.

Considering some of the bigger names in that cast are off on other projects right now, I doubt they wanted to move the production without most or all of the actors they had at CSC.
- Ethan Slater is doing the WICKED movie - Brandon Uranowitz is in LEOPOLDSTADT - Will Swenson is leading A BEAUTIFUL NOISE - Steven Pasquale joined a new ABC series, "Avalon" with Neve Campbell.

Today was the Oscar nominations, so its safe to assume producers wanted to steer clear if they actually wanted to the announcement to be covered by any news or entertainment news outlets. I was surprised it didn't come yesterday, but maybe once again producers were thinking they didn't want to be swept under the rug with Oscar coverage, as well as Room semi-beat them to the punch. I would guess we are likely to get the announcement this week, probably on Thursday or Friday though.
MAN OF NO IMPORTANCE is coming to Broadway exclusively because of Tom Kirdahy (Terrence McNally's husband & prominent producer) and Jim Parsons. If Sondheim or Weidman had a prominent producer-spouse and the popular star of a sitcom, ASSASSINS might have moved too... But these are the facts and realities of theatre.
As of yesterday, this is no longer happening. Jim Parsons and the producers couldn’t settle on a number so the entire thing is off. He texted the cast personally to let them know.
