I wouldn't take kids, this is a musical for adults

Lets say that I'm, perhaps, the child... Roughly 27 not to embarrass myself too much. Will we jump out of our seat?

FYI, the cast is performing tonight on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. I believe they are performing "Selling Out". I would link the article, but I don't remember where I remember reading it. However, I'm quite positive that it's "Selling Out".
How OLD is the child??

You may get a bit startled but it's more exciting than truly terrifying :) Have fun!
American Psycho cast on Stephen Colbert, that was a cool performance.
They did a nice job. Nice interview before the performance.

Benjamin Walker's shirtlessness was distracting, but in a good way.
I see this next week and honestly, I don't care if it's good, bad or ugly. I am just THRILLED that something new, original, edgy, provocative, sexy and avant-garde is on Broadway. I will take something odd, campy or challenging over Disney tripe any day.

I saw it tonight, and while I agree with other posters that the second act drags a bit, overall I was very impressed and thought it was very well done. The cast was fantastic, but I was particularly impressed with how the scenery, lighting, and video designs all worked together so well. The opening was SO COOL. And terrifying haha.
While this has nothing to do with the show, the A/C in the Schoenfeld either wasn't working or wasn't turned on tonight, and it was rather warm and humid today. It was hot in the house but I can't imagine how it was onstage under the lights. At one point Benjamin Walker took off a jacket he had been wearing and his shirt was literally soaked through with sweat.
Here's the video of the 'Colbert' performance:

Knowing relatively little about this property myself, I like the music and find it all weirdly compelling but sort of wish Patrick Bateman didn't dance along here. Maybe it makes more sense, or is the right kind of absurd, in context.
Can't remember if this has been mentioned here before, but an earlier version of 'Selling Out' is available on Duncan Sheik's 'Legerdemain' album. There are also some demo versions of tracks available to stream at http://americanpsychothemusical.com/sights-and-sounds/.
Judging from the comments in this thread, I think a version of this show which was truer to the depravity of the source material would be too much for me. I for one kind of hope the musical remains a relatively neutered version of the story, so that I'l be able to stomach seeing some production of it someday. (Which I know is a bit weird in itself, and may be missing the point entirely - "I'm fine with depictions of violence as long as they're sufficiently 'tasteful' "!)

I want more sexuality more everything sounds like it went through the PC blender but willing to give color or this a shot

I thought that Colbert performance was terrific. It would certainly have sold me a ticket if I didn't already have one. Benjamin Walker is such a star. It was sexy, dark, dynamic, very exciting.
Loved the performance. Unsurprised to see how much better it works in context after being really disappointed in the rehearsal clip.
Funny that many in the comments thought it was an April Fools prank tho...
I just watched the Colbert performance. After the rehearsal clip I thought they'd all be in business suits. The half dressed dancing pushed it closer to camp. Very "Welcome to the Kit Kat Club!"

Just watched the performance Benjamin Walker is so sexy.
God, I love everything I'm seeing about this production. Do you know what the staging concept actually reminds me of? The original CARRIE at the RSC: the abstract costumes, the white box set that is constantly transitioning into different locations, the over the top staging --- but unlike Terry Hands, it feels like Rupert Goold has taken that bizarre concept and actually made it work.
Benjamin Walker reminds me of my ex husband who was an American psycho, so I'm sure that will only add to my experience watching this live.
One question: that staging is very different from what was shown at the press preview - did they restage it for Colbert? Or is that how it appears on stage?
Ommiting the negativity from the youtube comments, because well, its youtube, I completely loved that performance.
Ok, is it just me, or does the Late Show performance feel like HIT LIST from Smash... even the sound, the styling, the projections... the souped up Broadway version on the show...
Unlike anything from "Hit List" though, this is actually a good song .

I also saw it last night. There's one scene with projections on the back wall. It's definitely not sanitized when it comes to the sex!
I'm not familiar at all with the novel or movie, so it was all new to me. I enjoyed it and loved the score, set (great use of the lift), and lighting, but between the heat in the building and slower pace in Act 2, wasn't completely won over. I'm one of those people who will gladly see a show I love multiple times. AP as a complete show didn't quite get there for me but I can see myself listening to the music.
Benjamin Walker is equally charismatic and disturbing as Patrick Bateman. If I were to see this again, it would be on the strength of his performance.
I didn't realize the detective was in that scene. Thanks, Colbert!
I enjoyed the Colbert performance, though it seemed eerily like something from the first act of "Ghost," the Bryce P material that established him as a hot shot. Even the staging and the projections.
Shame about the heat. You of course can't really hold a broken air conditioner against the show, but I'm sure the plus side is that it is 'putting a fire' under all the moments of the musical that feel slow and hopefully making it more obvious to the creative team what changes still should be made!
