That is still the song list as of last night.

I'm kinda bummed that Oh, Sri Lanka got cut. I listened to the OLCR over the weekend and that number might be the most satirical song in the show. I dunno about those quasi-rapped verses, but the chorus is great (the melody is sublime and the lyrics are somehow ridiculous and honest at the same time) and I love the melody to "I hope you DIE, yuppie scum!"



I wish they'd lose Killing Time instead. It's a pretty song but it just kinda sits there. Can someone who's seen the show tell me if the scene it makes up is integral to the plot? Seems like something they could do in dialogue and a snippet of the chorus, then save the full song for a reprise in act two. Honestly, to me it sounds like an outtake from blink-182's un/self-titled album, it really is pretty but it doesn't seem very important.

hsve you not read the book or seen the film? Part of the humour is his bad taste in music of the 80s and how he thinks he understands music from these songs, it would be plain wrong not to have them in.

Also Jean and Evelyn should be very different, it should feel like 2 separate worlds when they are together, the yuppies and their GF live in their own vile bubble, play by their own rules and go about their days oblivious to th actual population. Jean is representing the normal, they should feel completely different.

Yes, I have seen the movie and read the book, but even if I hadn't, that wouldn't excuse laziness. And no, what's "plain wrong" is having those songs in the show without crediting their creators in the playbill at all. And please, it's not as though Patrick sings either of those songs to demonstrate how he views them. It's Jean's first song (really... that's how you want to introduce a character?) and the company just before Patrick murders the homeless man. These are "plot advancing" songs in that they give insight into the performers' psyche. Write something original.

Oh really? Is that what they're doing? I had no idea... *eyeroll* Look, I get that they are supposed to be representing different worlds, but that does not give you permission to lack cohesion. Musicals have characters who come from different worlds all of the time, but they usually at least make sense existing in the same show. What I watched last night was 3 different shows wrapped up into one, and I found it distracting.

Songanddanceman2, I appreciate your enthusiasm for the show and I found much of it interesting. But I think that, with myself and others, you have mistaken our problems with the show as not understanding it. And by and large, that is simply not the case.

The show absolutely needs the 80s songs. An original song would completely miss the point.

I saw the show last night and was very entertained by it. I thought the design, music and acting were wonderful. Is the show perfect? No; but I assume they are fixing some of the story telling issues as they've only been in previews for a week. Ben Walker is giving a star turn performance. Alice Ripley is a hoot. Will definitely see it again and hope they find an audience.

Bjh, I would just say that I think it is wrong to say that the choice to use pre-existing 80s songs is "lazy." It's only lazy if you know for a fact that Duncan looked at a moment and said "I don't want to write a song for this, just throw an 80s tune in there." It sounds like it was a conscious artistic choice so therefor it really is not lazy. Otherwise Andy Warhol is lazy.

That's not even a remotely valid comparison. You cannot compare an entire career worth of pop art as a signature style to the use of two pre-existing songs in one Broadway musical. And I maintain that whether it was an artistic choice or not, the way he has chosen to use the songs IS lazy. There are surely more creative ways to use pre-existing songs in what is otherwise an original score.

Oh good! I'm glad to hear it. I looked through and couldn't find the credits anywhere. I expected them to be under the song list with an asterisk or something. I also looked on the title page. Where are the music credits?

They are after the Who's Who on the next page opposite "At This Theater". After the production staff listing.
