Previews for the new musical Anastasia begin in two days (Thursday, March 23, 2017) at the Broadhurst Theatre! Based on the classic 1997 animated film, Anastasia features music and lyrics by Stephen Flaherty and Lynn Ahrens, with a book by Terrence McNally. With Darko Tresnjak at the helm and starring Christy Altomare in the title role, the production is set to officially open on April 24 for an open run.

I won't be there until April but I'm INCREDIBLY excited for this production and look forward to hearing reports here!

Dummy question--is the music from this show based on the animated movie?
Short answer: yes, but the whole Rasputin subplot is gone, so any musical material related to him is out as well.
Can't wait until next month! Excited to hear the changes. I really hope they put the sarcastic tension between Anya and Dimitri back. That's what makes Anya so enjoyable
I'm going Thursday. Really excited. I've never been to a first preview before, bought my ticket because I was going to be here for the week anyway, knew I'd want to see the show eventually, and thought it would be interesting to go to a first preview. AFTER I bought my ticket, they announced Ramin was joining the cast, and he's a favorite of mine, so then I was even more excited.

I didn't think there was a lack of tension b/w Anya and Dmitry.

There wasn't a lack of tension but I could definitely do with a bit more

Exactly.
Their relationship is great in the musical, but the couple are famous for their comical bites in the movie
I know it's still a bit early but has a rush policy been set yet?

I will be there Saturday night! I saw it in Hartford, so I am excited to see what changes they have made.
I'm not going until after it opens in May, but I saw it in Hartford and I am really excited to see the changes since this will be the first show I have ever seen both out of town and on Broadway! (I saw Finding Neverland at the ART, but never caught it on Broadway, and Paper Mill's Hunchback and Ever After never transferred.) So I am excited to see the changes for myself and read about them here.
I'm really interested in seeing the changes in Gleb, and some tightening in Act II.
I didn't realize until today, but the Anastasia YouTube page has uploaded a ton of really pretty videos with members of the cast and creative team talking about the show's story, characters, et cetera. Definitely worth checking out!

Did anyone attend the dress last night? Any changes from Hartford Stage?

AHHHH! Shocked that they didn't change the curtain to match with the pink/purple advertisements, but the frame is beautiful! (Flowers are for Paris, I guess?)

I'm really getting excited about seeing this soon.
We're probably going to be spoiled forever this year, with costumes and sets for first, "Comet" and now "Dolly" looks so lavish and expensive. I hope Anastasia will dazzle us with visuals too. It looks so great from publicity so far.
I always liked the movie songs, in spite of all the kiddie stuff with the bat, etc...but with Terrence McNally doing the book, (no DCB hack job..thank you) and Ahrens and Flaherty...this cast is the best..lots of seasoned actors that know their stuff. This show does have some of the most beautiful songs too... So keep us posted. [No illegal photos of course]

I work down the street from the Broadhurst theater, so I popped in on my way to work just to ask if they're going to be doing any kind of "day of" deals. The box office manager told me they are not going to be doing rush but they are going to do a digital lottery. He wasn't sure how soon that would be implemented, I thought it could be as soon as this weekend. They will be doing standing room after opening.

As far as changes from Hartford, don't we already know Gleb has a new song? I can't recall the name of the one Manoel had but I believe Ramin has a different song now.
Are they selling box seats for this? How are those seats in the Broadhurst?

Lottery is open now
This is first time I get to say I'm going to a first preview! I'm seeing the Phantom matinee today and Anastasia tonight. Literally the oldest and newest shows on Broadway on the same day.
